I ordered takeout this evening. My wife and I frequent Travatos Due (Oakland) and Brandas (Budd Lake) so the bar is high. The other local italian spots are inconsistent so we were hoping for another spot closer to us in Newton.
They said the food would be ready in 20 minutes and when I arrived 21 minutes after calling, the food was ready and hot. Two kids that assisted at the front were friendly.
Unfortunately, that's where the review will go downhill. My wife ordered penne vodka and I ordered cavateli with broccoli with chicken and baked macaroni and cheese as a starter. The penne vodka was very average but the best of the bunch. Nothing spectacular but serviceable. The baked mac and cheese was just strange. It appeared to be a basic mac and cheese but when I dug my fork in, a sheet of cheese came up with it. Turns out it was swiss cheese (which I hate). In my opinion, swiss cheese belongs no where near macaroni and cheese, especially at an Italian restaurant. The Swiss completely dominated the dish and ruined it.
The cavateli and 'broccoli" was borderline inedible. First of all, it was broccoli rabe , which I also hate. There was very little pasta and the limited amount was dry and stuck together. There was zero, absolutely zero sauce that I am accustomed coming with this dish. The chicken was dry and flavorless.
Perhaps this is how these dishes are "supposed" to come but the menu from their website was zero descriptions, just names. If the mac and cheese is supposed to be swiss dominated, I suggest mentioning that in the description as most people will be disappointed like I was, if they don't know that going in. In the cavateli and broccoli is supposed to have broccoli rabe and no sauce, I suggest describing that as well.
Or don't; it won't matter to me. I'll never...
Read moreIf i could leave a negative star review i would. My wife and i had our rehersal dinner at Angelonis on lake mohawk on 9/6/25. We had reserved a room from 6-9 for around 30 people. We did not even get the pasta appetizer till around 7:45, salad around 8:30 and main course did not come out till well after 9. Half of our party decided to leave before the main course even came out. Meanwhile we kept seeing servers bringing food outside to tables walking right through the room we were in. At the end of the night after walking out we realized no one had even paid the bill. My now father in law and sister in law both went in to settle up and wanted to talk to a manager and see if they would take our long wait into consideration and adjust the bill accordingly. Thats when the owner/chef came out along with the entire kitchen staff. Instead of owning up and apologizing for the wait he put the blame on our group saying we didnt sit down at the table right away. I said once the waitress asked us to sit everyone took their seats so that is a bs excuse for being extremely under prepared. As the conversation continued the owner word for word said “i dont care if you ever come back”. The owner is extremely rude/cocky and the food was mediocre at best. If you are looking to have any sort of event there i strongly encourage you to go elsewhere. I normally never leave reviews and dont like talking poorly about a business but this review...
Read moreI hate to do this but our experience was appalling. The hostess was so rude that the people waiting were like stiff little kids on a bench at the principal's office - shooting wide-eyed looks at each other. I had food getting cold in front of me for 10 minutes with no silverware or napkins. I never got drinks I ordered. I received mussels in a broth with no bowl for the shells, no spoon or bread. At all. Ever. So I just ate them, made a mess and left the broth. The owner passed our table no less than 10 times and never once looked at us. Never once asked if we were having a nice time or needed anything. Which would have been "not really" and "yes please, a lot of things". We had to walk up to the front to pay our bill because we sat there for 20 minutes with our card on the table. And of course had to encounter the happy hostess again who huffed and rolled her eyes. And it was so loud inside we couldn't hear each other. Another instance where patrons shot looks at one another while pantomiming "freakin' LOUD". If you're still with me, I have this to share. When I was 19 I waited tables at a high-end Manhattan restaurant. The owner taught me a lot but this I have never forgotten. He said, "If the food is just ok but the service is great, people will come back. But even if the food is amazing and the service stinks, they won't." Indeed...
