Shocked and upset. My experience at Papa's and Beer at the Spartanburg location has been the worst I've had at any business. The server, Cesar, who I learned was also the manager, was not only rude and arrogant, he was offensive and openly homophobic.
During my visit to the restaurant I ordered a dish that turned out being too salty. I returned it and expected to not be charged for it. The server did not appear towards the end of dinner. I requested the bill a couple of times to two other servers that walked by and they said my server would come in a moment. It was only when I went to the cash register to request the bill that the server came to print it, and he went back to the kitchen.
When I reviewed the bill I noticed it had the dish I returned on it. I asked to see the manager (that's when I learned my server was the manager). I asked why he included the dish I returned and he raised his voice saying he forgot. I questioned why he would forget and his response, also raising his voice was "aguanta, aguanta" (which is an offensive phrase in the context of our discussion). When my friend said he was being unprofessional and offensive he made a comment implying we were gay and not welcome.
At the end the server/manager removed the dish from the bill but walked away once again after handing out the bill. We asked another employee who was seating nearby, who apparently was also a manager, to check me out to pay. When I asked how was a regional manager to report the server, the second manager refused to give me any information. He only said there is no regional manager, only an owner.
This had never ever happened at any establishment I've visited. I never expected this kind of behavior from a restaurant that prides itself of a good dining experience at the different locations.
It is a pity that employees like the server I got give a bad reputation to places like Papa's and Beer. I've been there several times and never had any bad experience.
This happened three days ago and it still...
Read moreThis was the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. The waitress was terrible! My boyfriend n his uncle n kids went to eat, he is Spanish n I'm not. The waitress came up n started talking Spanish the whole time i did not understand anything she was saying, n did not even look at me. I ordered my food, 2 hard beef tacos w rice n beans... I get the food n I received 1 taco w rice and beans, n I thought they brought me the wrong plate because the taco meat was the same color as the beans, I thought they brought me a bean taco n there was only 1. Come to find out it was beef. It looked like dog food on my taco. I told my waitress I would like to order something else, she stood there w her arms crossed and she replies with, well what's wrong with it, that's what u ordered, I replied with, no 1st of all I ordered 2 tacos n this does not look like beef, this is very unappetizing. She walked away n left the food n got her manager, which took him 5 mins to get there, then asked me what I would like, I asked her to give me a moment. I stepped out side for a moment, came back in n sat there with the menu in front of me. She NEVER came back to take my order. Needless to say, they ate n I had no dinner but my family did. I would NEVER GO BACK THERE AGAIN! I felt very disrespected n that was so rude of her not to even come back. N when she did it was w the bill n still did not even look at me n acted like I...
Read moreGood service, great food...AWFUL tortilla chips! Love the food. Hate the chips. How does an restaurant with a dozen different salsas, fantastic bean dip, (made at your table)Guacamole justify serving all that deliciousness by serving cold, stale and not fresh tortilla chips? That should be illegal! When we asked our waiter for fresh tortilla chips, he said, "No". he said it politely, so maybe it was a language barrier? I chalked it up to a language barrier, since that was my only complaint about my server. He was kind and friendly. However...
When most people go to a Mexican restaurant they anticipate the free, but warm and crispy fresh chips and salsa. Sometimes, I just look forward to a margarita and chips and salsa during happy hour. But it is just WRONG when you go to Mexican restaurant that provides so many different varieties of salsa, dips AND amazing guacamole, just to have it ruined with lousy tasting tortilla chips. Aldi is practically next-door. Their restaurant style tortilla chips are a great substitute if you cannot find or make a good tortilla chips.Papa's and Beer, I love you, but you get an F in the tortilla chips department. I have been to your restaurant 4 times now. So don't chalk it up to an "off" night. Trust me. Do something about your chips. Last night was my last trip there. I can get better tortilla chips from EVERYWHERE, except here.
Loved my bean...
