New review updated more than a week later
I am disappointed and completely doubt any of the fake and misleading words that you have said about the situation at hand. I’ve called Madeline’s Cafe three times since this incident during normal business hours with two being completely unanswered. On the third call, I spoke to a female on the phone and left my name and phone number to call back. She also said that the owner will call me back today a round 1:30pm .To this day I have never received a call back.
Regardless of what had actually happened that day, your following actions have not indicated any offering of sympathy. Not only have I been mistreated by your employees who YOU trained and claim cannot know the difference between spoiled and fresh food. But also, you are refusing to return my money despite having every means to do so by the images I’ve tagged. You have all the information you need within the image receipt, as it is impossible to get you on the phone. You’ve wasted my time and are lying to the readers about the “apology” that you have left.
You paint these girls in a bright image, and perhaps that may be true from the instances in which you may have seen them in the past. But I am certain of the way that I was mistreated.
I am certain that girls glared down on me, I am certain that to me in a condescending tone, and I am certain that they deliberately chose to sabotage my food as THEY and NOW YOU refuse to return my money. At this point, you haven taken my money.I just know that I can NEVER RECOMMEND this restaurant TO ENYONE, not only of racial hatred from those servers but the BEHAVIOR of the owner .
Old review Never have I been so disrespected as I was at Madeleine’s Cafe yesterday morning l.I don’t ever leave bad reviews, but I believe this behavior by the servers cannot go unpunished. Around 9:35 AM I went to Madeleine’s Cafe to order a chicken pie and a veggie quiche for take out. After waiting for along time.I approached a young female employee to ask why my order was taking so long. She snarked at me and told me that my order was in the oven baking. I waited longer and longer as she continued serving other guests first that came after me until ultimately, I requested to cancel my order. The woman snapped at me and refused to refund my order after 30mins of waiting and said that it would take longer to refund my money than it would take just to wait for my food to be ready.A few minutes later, she handed me two boxes containing what I thought was my order.
After 10 minutes as I opened my order in the car, I couldn’t believe what I saw. The servers had given me someone else’s half eaten chicken pie and scattered around old ROTTEN vegetables all over the boxes . In addition, both of my orders were also extremely cold to the touch (clearly never being in the oven at all). I was shaking and scared and did not eat any of the food as I was afraid of what they could have done to it. Never have I been so blatantly mistreated in a restaurant and I am in disbelief about the lack of decency and empathy that these servers had towards me. Serving me leftover trash for food that I paid for and waited so long for is not only extremely unprofessional but also hateful.
There were 3 females working but it was the youngest one that gave me a hard time from the second I ordered. I am not sure if this is because I was being discriminated against as an Asian woman -- or if I this is an incident removed from that caused solely by these three bad actors. But I will not stand silent now that I have witnessed this first hand and am saddened to think that I cannot even order a simple breakfast without being treated with such hate and animosity. I can only hope that this type of behavior is not condoned...
Read moreI used to love Madeleine's when it was at the old location. This is a great example of, "better is the enemy of good". Let's start with the location. It used to be a corner French café and bakery with a quaint ambiance, with the feel of a warm French afternoon. Not any longer, now they have transitioned to the modern hipster industrial stainless steel and concrete motif. That is great for Chipotle, but come one, what was wrong with what was working great before? And the food. Used to be the best Rueben in the world. Today's was mediocre at best. That fantastic crisp flavorful crunch has now been morphed into a greasy toast, the kraut was almost absent, and basically, it did not come close to the what it used to be. I hate to even mention the éclair I suffered through (and did not finish). I could have just gone to Starbucks if I wanted such poor quality. The pastry was cold and chewy, and the filling was a horrible paste. I used to think I'd died and gone to heaven with the baked goods, so fresh, flaky, tasty, and just incredible, but now I wouldn't eat them if they were free! I hate to be so critical, but I have to finish my meal description by saying the cappuccino was plain old blah. Once again, not what I used to adore at Madeleine's. And what about the price? Well, I don't mind paying a premium price for a premium product, but I just paid a premium price for a mediocre product. That I mind. If the prices were half what I paid, then maybe I would go back if I was hungry and it was convenient. Madeleine, you should have stayed were you were, enjoyed the long lines of satisfied customers, and enjoyed the money you were making. The...
Read moreMadeleine's cafe was, on the whole, an enjoyable eatery. Between the myself and the two other people with me, we ordered the Corned Beef Hash and some kind of scrambled eggs with potatoes and ham (I can't quite recall the name). Both dishes were fantastic, and came in very ample portions (the three of us were not able to tackle the two). The Corned Beef Hash had a wonderful mix of red onions, potatoes, asparagus, zucchini, bell peppers, gravy, and corned beef, underneath some very fluffy scrambled eggs (I did not try the recommended sunny side up eggs). The cinnamon roll was also delicious, if not a little over-frosted, and the coffee was well brewed. The indoor decor was very quaint, the general air of the restaurant was bright and cheerful, and the outdoor patio was nice and sunny. However, Madeleine's needed a little more attention to detail. The bathrooms were lacking in paper towels and soap at the time of my visit, as well as some stalls that needed attention. Madeleine's does seem to share it's bathroom facilities with a bar next door, so I will give them some slack in this department. Also, while the self serve water dispenser was convenient, the cups needed dusting. This either means that Spokaners tend to bring their own water containers, or that the cups just needed a little more frequent attention. I would definitely recommend Madeleine's Cafe to anyone visiting or...
