Good Food but... Nice quaint breakfast joint, owned by the former owners of Europa (downtown, they sold that and kept Wall St Diner). Small-ish booths and wobble tables, causing our coffees to come close on several occasions to almost splash out of our mugs. Chairs need some attention as they sway like a skyscraper in high wind. But that is the furniture, how's the food? It is tasty with a couple of small gripes. First off, the coffee served is better than most places-decent bite, lower acidity and pleasant with a creamer or two. Ordered CFS (Chicken Fried Steak), two over medium eggs, hashbrowns and a biscuit. I had heard about these biscuits, so naturally I needed one. The other person in my party ordered their sacrilegious breakfast if the ages, which was biscuits and gravy, hasbrowns, over hard eggs, sausage links. For theirs, it was spot on they said. Biscuits mopped the gravy up like a combine in a corn field. They were quiet and that is a good sign. For the CFS party, this is how I determine whether a place will become a repeat or not. While my meal was certainly enjoyable, I have a couple of gripes or so. One, there was a faint taste in the crust of the CFS that led me to believe the oil was needing to be serviced in the fryer. Hashbrowns were impeccably buttery, flattop griddle sear was on point and super soft-reminded me of the way Franks does them. Oh, and they have Fletchers hot sauce on demand (Yessss!) My over medium eggs were in fact undercooked-I'm the type that doesn't like my eggs running into other tastes on my plate until it's time to mop the plate with my bread. It's the final act in a great breakfast. So, over-medium is necessary for the Oscar nod recognition. The letdown was actually this fantastic biscuit. I've never seen a biscuit presented in a way that enticed an excited toddler in toy store reaction from me. Square, perfect flattop griddle crust, whipped butter and honey. Oh my! As I begin to hoist this divine pillowy, "my doctor is judging me" biscuit, it immediately falls apart like a dropped Lego TIE Fighter on hardwood floors. Spreading the butter tears the corners off-and its whipped mind you. Half the biscuit couldn't hold the other half's weight. On closer inspection it would appear to my guest and I that perhaps, between the eggs and the biscuit that there was either inexperience in the kitchen or short staffing. We will go back and eat again, but that is because the taste was great, and as all things in the biz, humans are human, biscuits can and will be pulled early and this review serves to inform and help. I still recommend this place for biscuits and gravy, hashbrowns, CFS and many other things, but be mindful of the bread choice-biscuits will be better if forked, not held. Wait time mid weekend morning 4.5. Friendly staff and quick service 4.5. Easily a comfortable 4 for taste, furniture, cramped tabletop and tight spacing is a 3. Coffee is a 4. Price is 25/p with tip or less so a 4.5. Solid 4 rating. Or even a 4.5 if youre the size of a...
Read moreAbsolutely the RUDEST staff I have ever encountered. It was as if they weren't intelligent enough to remember that they work off of tips. My husband and I used to go here all the time prior to having our daughter and we used to love it. We walked in on Sunday to get a nice meal before church, we had our infant in her umbrella stroller as she is not old enough to sit in a booster or high chair. Rather than being greeted with a smile, we were greeted with 'Can you leave that thing outside?' (Referring to our stroller). A. Im not leaving my stroller outside to get rifled through by Spokane's finest. B. I shouldn't be shamed into holding my daughter through the entire course of our meal. After my husband convinced this horrid individual to let us sit at a four top after we said we were also waiting for 2 other friends, they ripped the fourth chair away from the table. After our two friends got there not even 5 minutes later, another RUDE individual shouted at us from the counter, "yeah...that's not going to work. You are all goimg to have to wait for a booth." Mind you, the restaurant was more empty than I had ever seen it (now I know why). Needless to say after they rudely kicked us out of our table, we left without spending any money there and took our business to Sunrise Bakery on Wall (who were fabulous!!!). I have never been so publicly embarrassed as a young mom in public. My husband and I are fairly well connected here and will be spreading word not to take business to this establishment again. Locals should seriously consider reevaluating this restaurant. This staff seriously needs to get their head out of...
Read moreWe came to the Wall St. Diner today for the 1st time. We've driven by a few times and its quaint and looked like a sweet place for breakfast. We were greeted immediately and easily found a booth. I have to add that.....their booths are TIGHT. We saw 2 other parties come in and try to fit in others and had to switch to tables. It IS uncomfortable. The food was fine. No issues. Staff was fine. No issues. The $$ amount is a tad high for Spokane and for what is served. But, it is privately owned so I can slightly understand and let that slide.
My reason for posting however is this. I was curious what others had to say about this diner after we left....so, I came online when we got home to see. I have to say I'm disappointed. NOT with what the reviews have to say. People seem to be legit. My issue is these "responses from the owner" that were added to such reviews. I am also a business owner and the way this person responded was not only condescending and disrepectful....but has 100% turned me off in regard to returning. VERY inappropriate and unprofessional. Too bad. We probably would have given it another try. People are allowed to have opinions. Take them and learn. If you think the person is full of cr**, there's a much better way to handle it. Your attitude has turned away some cool, local folks that LOVE to support home grown companies. Oh well.
Also, adding "have a great day!" to the end of your responses is ridiculous. You can't slam your customers and then wish them well. Passive aggressive is not a good look for a professional. Just...
