So, I have a deep love of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food. It's a part of my heritage and I've eaten some amazing food in this category over the years. For some reason, finding this sort of food can be a bit of a challenge as it's not as ubiquitous as Italian or Mexican food. So when I saw Kabob House while driving up Ruby, I added it to my mental list of restaurants to try.
Now, Middle Eastern food boasts some incredible flavors and textures and I've had many variations of falafel, hummus, gyro, kebbe, tabbouleh, etc because they change so much depending on who is making them and where they are from. I didn't go into Kabob House with particular expectations of what "style" of food I was going to get; I simply expected it to be tasty and I was desperate for some desert food unsullied by the hipster trend of taking amazing food and making it overly fussy (I once ate falafel with whole kalamata olives stuffed in them...it was unpleasant). But it was not to be.
The (regular) hummus was a bit loose and not at all creamy, the souvlaki (and the bed of rice with peas it slept on) was so dry (and I'm a weirdo that likes my chicken a bit dry), the tzaziki I needed to dip said souvlaki in to be able to swallow it was okay, but nothing very memorable. The falafel was just okay, too, fluffy but flavourless. During this meal I couldn't taste mint, I couldn't taste dill, no sumac, no baharat, no cumin, anise, cardamom, and for the love of all things Mediterranean I could not taste the garlic! A friend got the fries that come covered in feta but again they lacked luster; at least make the feta melty and gooey since otherwise it just falls of the fries when you pick them up. I will say that my friend found them to be a highlight of our visit so take that as you will. I am so sad that I didn't love this place. Honestly, I went in with such hope.
All in all, I think this is the sort of place that caters to palettes unfamiliar and possibly afraid of Middle Eastern cuisine. If you don't know any better, you might like it. If you're super white and don't like food with spices, you might like it. Maybe the gyros are good? I don't know, and I don't feel like going back...
Read moreMe and My Family recent visit to this delightful Greek and Persian restaurant was truly memorable. The food was outstanding, starting with the mouthwatering saffron rice and perfectly cooked kebabs that were bursting with flavor. Each bite was delicious, and the spices were balanced beautifully. The gyros were equally impressive, tender and flavorful, and the fresh salad added a refreshing touch to the meal. Every dish tasted authentic and homemade, giving a real sense of the care that goes into the cooking.
One thing to note is that there’s only one server working, so there can be a bit of a wait for your food and orders, but it’s worth it. The server was so lovely and attentive, despite being the only one on staff. Although she forgot a glass of water we know she’s doing her best, and her friendly demeanor really adds to the overall charm of the place.
The restaurant itself is decorated in such a cozy, homey way, with warm colors and comfortable seating that make it feel like you’re dining in someone’s home. It’s the perfect setting for a relaxed meal with family or friends, and I can see it being a great spot for larger gatherings, especially with family. The laid-back, family-friendly atmosphere really enhances the experience, making it a wonderful place to unwind and enjoy some delicious food in good company.
Overall, if you’re looking for a place with flavorful, authentic Greek and Persian dishes and a welcoming, home-like ambiance, this restaurant is definitely worth a visit. Just remember to bring some patience for the wait, and you’ll be rewarded with an amazing meal and a lovely dining experience.

Read moreDined at the Kabob house two times prior without any issues. Just left and pretty disappointed. Was very excited to take my husband to the kabob house for the first time. Wasn’t insanely busy when we got there it was around 6:30 pm. Most of the other diners already had meals in front of them. We sat in our seats and didn’t receive menus for over five minutes. The waitress finally brought over menus, and took our drink orders. Only to have the other waiter ask for our drink order leaving us very confused. Took more time after that to get our drinks, and take our order. After ordering it took over forty minutes to get our food. Yet I constantly saw doordash orders and to go orders taking priority. The waitress never came by to ask if we needed anything or refill drinks. She was more preoccupied with a boyfriend bringing her Tylenol and other diners. How is it that a couple that came in twenty minutes after us left before us? I could go on.... To have a 70 dollar bill for three adult meals, and two kids meals is insane with the service we received. Would’ve preferred to go to a nicer establishment. It took forever to get our tab even though we were clearly done and cleaned up. Handed her the cards and it still took time for her to run the cards. Highly disappointed in the service, and will not be visiting this establishment again. I generally tip very well because I understand the work ethic but this trip didn’t warrant it. There was...
