We dined at Amigo’s last night, Saturday night, the first time in years and were sorely disappointed. Compared to other Mexican restaurant competitors here in Spring Hill, Amigo’s falls short in three areas: Value, Service, and Flavor. We came here because Tito's had a 30 minute wait time and Amigo's had immediate seating. That should have been a red flag.
Value: The amount of food they give you compared to the price you pay is NOT a good value. I wanted an enchilada meal. Out of all 6 meal variations they offer, only ONE comes with rice and beans. Most adult meals from places like Don Arturo’s and Tito’s comes with RICE AND BEANS. If you want a side of beans, it’s an extra $3.50. The kids meals are overpriced and are not given a lot of food. The menu says their for kids up to the age of 12. My 7 and 9 year old were still hungry on the way home. They got a taco meal which was 1 taco with a side of rice, and a quesadilla which was one fajita sized tortilla filled with cheese and folded in half with a SMALL side of rice and beans. My third son got macaroni and cheese. $7.99 for essentially Kraft macaroni and cheese is ridiculous. Red Lobster charges less for the same exact thing and you can get fresh vegetables instead of fries. My husband ordered fajitas that was mostly vegetables and little meat. The shrimp were few and very small.
Service: Service at Amigo’s is hit or miss. I’ve dined here with both bad and good experiences which shows that they are consistent at being inconsistent. We waited about 10 minutes between getting our drinks and having our order taken. We waited so long we asked for more chips because we ran out. We had to flag down a server passing by our table to ask where our server was. Food orders should always be taken when the drinks are brought to the table. The biggest wait time should be between the order being taken and food is delivered. Our server would blurt out a “Everything ok?” As he sped past us on the way to the back of the house (BOH), never taking the time to hear our response. This happened about 5 times and the only reason it happened so often was because he HAD to pass by our table on his way in/out of the BOH. The food runner was the one who refilled our son’s water when he ran out, and got the missing plate to our table.
Flavor: another inconsistency. I couldn’t tell you confidently that Amigo’s offers better tasting food than other Mexican establishments. Their corn tortilla chips don’t have that distinct corn masa flavor. My chicken enchilada’s weren’t dry, but there was no strong flavor indicative of Mexican food: cumin, chiles, oregano, coriander, ect. A big complaint I have with something overall concerning the food is that everything is too spicy. It’s like the executive chef assumed that because it’s Mexican food, everything should be spicy, right? The salsa we got with the chips when first sitting down, the queso dip, the pico that came with my plate and the salsa verde on my enchiladas were all too spicy and none of which were labeled as being spicy on the menu. I personally prefer heat between 500 and 2500 Scoville. But the salsa was too hot and most of us at our table did not eat it.
My review from 6 years ago: The service is usually good. I've visited and had bad service before. The food is pretty good and they have a good kids menu. They were understaffed when we went last night. There was a mix up with table seating but they gave us a free cheese dip and we had...
Read moreWe gave this place another try after months of not coming -this done it -we will NEVER COME BACK -nor recommend -back in summer we watched young kids get served chips and salsa , they left and an older couple were seated at that table -we watched the chip girl turn right back around and put the same chips and salsa that the kids left there right back on that table that the older couple were seated - how disgusting ! Last night my husband took me there for my bday - when I got my food it was cold ( chicken fajita nachos ) no tomatoes and my husband told ( Jose ) no sour cream on his fajitas , they came out with a chunk of sour cream on the salad ! When I told ( Jose) my food was cold , he said " sorry " and walked away , he then comes back and said he could take my plate if I was done , I asked for manager - the manager comes over and said " I can heat it in microwave or put more toppings on it to warm it up ! Really ?! I said nope I'm good - you don't put this in a microwave with chips , and that was all it was , I did not take a pic - but the food was threw on the plate like it was being threw away ! I will never go here again ! Oh and then the manager tried to explain that Jose had tables of 30 ! NO EXCUSE ! TWO CUSTOMERS WILL TIP AS GOOD AS 1 OR MORE ! WHAT A LAME EXCUSE FOR YOUR FOOD TO BE COLD ! BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE ! DO BETTER...

My Mexican friends and girlfriends growing up used to invite me over for dinner or lunch or family gatherings and I loved the food every single time.
The fact is: I absolutely LOVE Mexican food.
What Amigos Mexican grill microwaves in their kitchen and puts out as Mexican food left me going home sad and angry. Sad because, yet again, I have failed to find a good Mexican restaurant in my area since moving here. Angry because, all the reviews I read before going said that they served great food here. Those reviewers either have some vested interest in this business, or simply have no idea what good Mexican food is all about.
