Cute place, great service--okay food.
I really wanted to rate this place higher because the service was so good. The service was almost TOO good, and they were constantly clearing plates, filling glasses and checking in. Staff was very friendly and the owner (I assume) came by a couple times to chat and ask how we're doing/tell us about a wine tasting benefit next week.
Everything is very clean and well decorated, so that was nice as well. The music was a mix of classic rock and contemporary and we all remarked at how much we liked the music.
They do serve alcohol but are still BYOB (IDK how that works, but it was nice to bring our own bottles of wine). The cork fee is only $5 so that was a nice surprise.
We ordered the cheeseboard to start and a few of the dinner specials for 2--a ribeye, two cesar salads, roasted brussels sprouts and truffle fries. Two in our party ordered the lamb chops over beet hummus and one ordered the babyback ribs with fries and coleslaw.
Cheeseboard: probably wouldn't try to share this with more than 2-3 people but the cheese and meat selection was tasty.
Baby back ribs-- friend reported that they were tough. I didn't smell any smoke flavor on the dish but admittedly did not try them. She had to work really hard to get any meat off the bones and hardly finished a third of the rack that was on the plate. This one was a miss for sure.
Lambchops--the two in our party who ordered these both enjoyed them with the beet hummus. Presentation was nice and meat was cooked perfectly.
Ribeyes--I give these an okay. The star of this special was the cesar salads--the homemade dressing was fantastic and had perfect flavor. The salads were crisp and chilled, so that was nice. The steaks were cooked as requested but I was not impressed with mine. It came pre-sliced, and it was a boneless ribeye, so not off of the bone for presentation or anything. It almost looked like they cut into it to see if it was cooked correctly (which it was, medium rare) then went ahead and cut the rest of the steak into bites for me. I didn't love that it was pre-cut for me, but oh well. Certainly no reason to send it back. My biggest gripe on the steak was that it had no char or sear/crunch to it on the outside and seemed like it was cooked on a flat top (which I'm not inherently opposed to, but it may have explained the lack of any sort of Maillard reaction on the outside). It was barely browned on the outside and just fell a bit flat considering it was $65. The roasted brussels sprouts were very good, a little on the sweet side but I enjoyed them. The truffle fries were fantastic. After reading the owner's response, I take back my assumption that it was cooked on a flat top, but I can assure there were no grill marks and it was lacking that distinct flavor.
For dessert, we ordered an apple crumble ala mode, a brownie ala mode and the key lime tart. I think the apple crumble and key lime tart were the best, with the brownie just being so insanely decadent that it was too much after a bite or two. I'd only order the brownie if I was with someone who REALLY likes chocolate, because it was intense. Based on the owner's response, it is not a brownie, rather a double chocolate chip cookie. I did not order this, but tried it, and found it to be too much for my taste. The apple crisp was hot and tasted great. The key lime tart was really pretty and my favorite dessert of the three, but I'm a sucker for key lime anything. All of the desserts are big enough to share, so that was nice.
All in all, good experience and I'm glad we tried it. They have a few seafood dishes on the menu (redfish and crabcakes!) I'd like to try and see if those outshine what we had...
Read moreExcellent food with excellent service! I visited yesterday with my wife and three years old daughter. We were greeted warmly by Lorenzzo and then later by the owner, Kerry Pauly-KP- himself, during serving. Everyone we faced had smiles on which made us feel welcomed in place. They were kind enough to offer complimentary glasses of Champaign, and we really appreciated it. We started with Artisanal Cheese Plate, and we loved everything included. Cheeses weren't too salty and full of scent and flavor. Pickled beet and baby corn provided a great combination, and our only complaint was not getting more! We asked to have Ahi tuna seared a tad bit more for the salad, and the salad came out just as we asked. Gulf Crab Cake was great! The combination of the crab and mustard was fantastic. We found a tiny crab shell piece inside, and slaw tasted a bit bland after mustard, but it was nothing to complain about. And 12 [hr] Baby Back Rib was the crème de la crème. It was the best baby back rib I had in years. I didn't need a knife at all as it was so soft, and the meat just tore itself. French fries came with was also incredible, not greasy at all. I also loved that the portion size was half rib. Loved everything about it.
Overall, we ordered a lot of food for two people. Yet, no menu felt too salty, greasy, or heavy. And the pricing was just right. We could tell KP loves and cares about the place, pays great attention with pride in his foods, and appreciates his customers. I also loved the view on the side seats of the restaurant. It's not common to see a well-cared garden-like view in downtown stores, I think. And it was nice to be able to pay the check with my phone. Less wait and easy payment for people like me who already have the card information stored in the phone. We don't live in the area and live about an hour away, but we will still return...
Read moreI was very excited to try this place because I looked at the menu and saw quite a variety.
When I arrived, the patio area looked spacious and comfortable. When I walked in the restaurant I immediately felt cramped. There was no host stand, you just kinda stand at the door and wait to be acknowledged.
Someone greeted us pretty quickly so I was still hopeful. The seating area had you in very close proximity of the next guests. Not a deal breaker but not a good option for seating.
Overall the service was good.
I ordered the Sour Cherry Lemon Drop and I think they forgot to add cherry and vodka. The drink was watery and bland.
I decided not to get an appetizer and just get a dinner option. I asked the waiter about his favorite option but I chose to try the 12 hour ribs. My husband got the chicken (because it’s hard to mess up chicken).
Unfortunately they found a way to mess up the chicken and the ribs. The ribs fell right off the bone but had no flavor except the sauce and the chicken was just as bland. You know it’s bad when the best thing you ate were the Brussel sprouts (which were really good and the only reason for the second star for the food). To top it off, the bill was over $75.
Now I don’t really complain much about restaurants but the main reason I go out is to get good food (because I know how to cook and I’m pretty good).
I will say, the service was good and I liked the atmosphere but the food definitely had no flavor.
Maybe I should have gotten a burger or some other sandwich or the pork chop. I’ll never know because I don’t plan to go back.
Tip for the establishment … add salt … it goes a long way in improving the taste and flavor. (A little pepper wouldn’t...
