First time at this authentic Korean restaurant. Seafood Pancake was an excellent appetizer which could serve 4 persons. Started off with a cold, but not iced, barley tea, served in place of a glass of water. Refreshing with no discernible flavoring, and supposedly healthier than a drink with ice cubes. I ordered the Spicy Beef Tripe Soup, as I remembered that nearly 60 years ago, Mrs.Yu, made a Tripe Soup for our two families to enjoy. It cooked on the stove for a long period of time and everyone loved it. This soup is really spicy, even more so than the regular Kim chee and turnip Kim chee which had been served as part of the traditional small bowl relishes. Besides the Kim chees previously mentioned, there was very thinly-sliced fresh baby-sized cucumber, bean sprouts with a dash of sesame oil, and small, flat rectangles of fish cake with seasoned vegetables, such as a carrot, onion. These 5 "relishes " primed the palate for the food to come. My Korean-Japanese friend who invited me to dinner had the Spicy Pork Neck Bone Soup. Same Spicy level as my Tripe soup. Apparently very delicious, as the empty pork bones looked like the site of a bone graveyard 😋 ; enough neck bones to satisfy a tall, sturdily-built man! Originally he had intended to take me to the all-you-can-eat Hwaro BBQ, but we weren't interested in waiting for over an hour to get a table, so the choice of Moobongri Soondae, at 7 p.m. on a Saturday night was the best decision of the night. NO problem parking, a nightmare at Hwaro, and we lucked out with an immediate table. Someone could scoop up plenty of cash by offering valet parking at the Hwaro Plaza, as well as at Shanghai Plaza, another parking nightmare. With today's technology, as with current casino valet parking, your phone receives a valet notification, so you can request your car when you are ready collect it. For my dessert, I chose a Rice Punch Slush, a creamy, sweet finish to offset a Spicy meal. Plan to go back to try other dishes. Stopped at another table to ask about the huge platter of meat, served with a separate bowl of piping hot soup. Think it was the Combination Soondae Hopot. Again, the portion served with pork meat looked like it would feed a family of 4 grown-ups. Amazing! Grab a Korean acquaintance and have a wonderful, and interesting, dining experience. You won't be...
Read moreMoobongri Soondae offers an authentic Korean experience. From the moment you step inside, it feels like you have been transported straight to Korea, and the servers are all kind and welcoming.
Be prepared for generous portions... The amount of food you get here is massive, both for the main dishes and the numerous side dishes. I enjoyed the memorable pickled cucumber among the sides, though it was a shame that so much food went uneaten due to the enormous main portions.
For the main courses, I tried the 매운 돼지국밥 (spicy pork belly soup) for lunch, which was not my favorite. However, the 순대국밥 (soondae soup) that my friend ordered for dinner was much better, so I would recommend trying that or the non-spicy version of the pork belly soup instead.
The 모듬 순대 접시 (combination plate) is pricey at $49.99, but the portion is huge and it was delicious. The 순대 철판 볶음 (pan fried soondae hot pot) is also enormous a medium could easily feed a large group of 5 or 6 people.
Do not miss trying the 지평 막걸리 (Korean rice wine)! Even as someone who is not usually a fan, I found it surprisingly delicious and it paired wonderfully with the 순대 철판 볶음.
One area where the restaurant could improve is the cleanliness of the mens restroom. It could use some attention.
Overall, Moobongri Soondae is a great spot for a hearty and authentic Korean meal with incredibly generous portions. Just be mindful of the restroom and consider the soondae soup over...
Read moreThis gem of a place hidden on a side street is a secret.lrts keep it that way. Well at least for us. But I want them to flourish service the community at large. First off, the service was excellent. Kind, courteous, and to the point. That's just the first minute when you enter.
Second, the food is great! I had there spin on gamja tang. It's was plentiful and the flavor was on point. We also had there soondae soup. It was flavorful and enough to share with 2 people . We also had the side of soondae plate with a little extra charge . Now I didn't like the soondae that much. It was not to my taste. That doesn't mean it's not good. It's very good, homemade and very flavorful. Im just a soondae purist and do not like the extra things they put in it. So, believe me it's still very good.
Lastly, one if the most important aspect is the side dishes. All homemade fresh and good. The crown jewel of the sides , radish kimchee. Ooooo it was good. I had 3 bowls of it. The best part was the owner came and asked if we wanted more and I said YES PLEASE! Very nice if him.
So , if you want plentiful, flavorful, service excellence, come here! You. Won't regret it. But I might now since this place might get Uber busy now after some exposure.
Oh I didn't take any photos because I was too busy eating all the food and smacking my full belly afterwards with complete contentment. I really hope you guys blow up and keep it with the same taste...
