So, I feel a little torn about reviewing this restaurant. In one hand, I love that they have a wide menu and good service. On the other, while they do have a couple of standout dishes, I feel like most of the individual dishes are made better by at least one other restaurant in town.
I have visited Yun Noodle and Dumplings twice – first when they opened and then again this weekend. The first time I went I ordered beef noodle soup and some pork soup dumplings. I did not think the beef noodle soup was particularly memorable. It was decent, but nothing to write home about. The broth lacked some depth. With some hot oil and vinegar, it was still tasty. The soup dumplings were fine, just not the best I have had in town. They did have a quality that kinda makes me a little miffed – and that is a wrapper that has developed leaks during the steaming process. I do not know enough about steaming dumplings to know if it is an issue of the dough itself or the length of time it is steamed. I do try to eat them as soon as they are not hot enough to burn my mouth, since dumplings that have been allowed to cool too much are just not as good and the wrappers do become more mushy if you wait too long. I had watched a lot of really good reviews for this restaurant and the items they have on their menu are all things I really enjoy, so I decided to take my youngest son with me this weekend. We tried a lot of different things and took leftovers home. The portions are nice and the ratios of sauce, proteins, veg and noodles is spot on. We had the cold dish combination with black fungus, cucumber and potatoes; A scallion pancake beef roll; house special soup dumplings, pan fried beef and onion dumplings, the spicy dry beef noodle, and some orange chicken. My favorite dishes were the spicy dry beef noodle and the combination cold dish. The dry beef noodle and a really good sauce that was very cumin-forward. It was delicious. A note on this one – freshly hand pulled noodles need to be immediately mixed when they get to the table. It cools them off and separates them into the sauce. If you let them sit they will get pasty in the hot stuck-together sections. It is not a dish I would get in a to-go box or delivered unless you have time to open up the container and mix them before you get to your car. Each of the vegetables on the combination cold dish had a slightly different flavor profile. The cucumber had the standard profile we all love, but just done very well. The potatoes were crunchy and lightly marinated. The fungus was my favorite, nicely marinated and a bit vinegary with a bit of spice that I just could not quite place. The other dishes were not my favorites. It is not that they are bad. They were all decent and most were better than average. It is just that there are other restaurants in town that make each one better. Shang Artisan Noodle makes better beef noodle soup. Ocha Thai downtown makes better orange chicken. Taiwan Deli makes better scallion pancakes. China Mama makes better pan fried dumplings. Shanghai Taste makes better soup dumplings (though I think I might almost put the soup dumplings at Yun with those at Xiao Long). Now, these are all very high bars to meet, so I am not sad that I ate here. If I were looking for that one time experience in a Spring Mountain Road restaurant, I would probably not choose this one. When should you go here? Well, if you are going with a family or group who all like different things, this is probably perfect. Each of the restaurants that I mentioned above makes some of the best of those items, but most of them have a limited menu, difficult parking, are difficult to get a table at or maybe even service that is not as good. Some of them would be difficult to get a large party into. I would also be perfectly happy having a weekday lunch here. I’d run in, have the spicy dry beef noodle and one of the three cold dishes that I really liked and be...
Read moreWhat a find! We were actually looking for a diff noodle house and couldn’t find it in that same plaza which google was directing us to. (we found out later that they listed the wrong address and was down the street cuz we spotted it later!). We were hungry so de used to eat here instead and we were so glad we did because what we had were delicous!!
The place is clean and bright. Lots of Asian patrons, which is always a great sign! We were greeted nicely and were told to sit wherver we wanted. After grabbing the table and looking over the menu, we ordered our food. They make their own hand pulled noodles here and it was fresh!
We ordered the following: crab and pork soup dumplings: 3/5 cuz it was a little salty and the soy sauce flavored soup was overpowering. The wrap is thick and chewy which is nice but the soup itself was overwhelming for us. We probably will not order this again. N1. House Special Lanzhou Beef Noodle Soup: 5/5! The broth is lean and clean, not fatty, smells great, like a lighter Pho broth but not the pho flavor. The meat is tender, sliced thinly and plenty of it. The cilantro and green onions were perfectly paired with the broth and the noodles are so fresh and soft. We would come back for this, for sure! Beef fried rice: 5/5! The rice is perfectly fried with eggs, slices of beef which were not tough. Pieces of carrots and peas were enough but not too much. The level burnt and soy sauce of the fried rice was delicious! We definitely would order this again. House boba milk tea: 5/5. Good flavor and the right level of sweetness. The bobas were soft and chewy. Overall, very good and for the size, the price is nice ($4.99).
Prices for all entrees are very good and more importantly, the quality and flavors are excellent. I got to watch the chef making some hand pulled noodles too, so that was fun. The waitress was quick and friendly, very pleasant to deal with which is nice cuz most Chinese restaurants aren’t known for their customer service or friendly interfacing.
The bathroom was clean and check this out: It does not have supplies all over in the hallway or in the bathroom like a lot of the asian restaurants around town! They have a cabinet there and my guess is they store their stuff there (I didn’t peek! lol).
Overall, glad we stumbled onto this place. We are a fan and...
Read moreI had never tried traditional hand-pulled noodles before, and after visiting this restaurant tonight, it won't be my last.
We started with hot Jasmine Teas (not pictured) to drink and the Crispy Salted Chicken appetizer (as per the recommendation of other Google reviews), and we were instantly impressed! It definitely reminds me of popcorn chicken, but ten times better! It doesn't even need a dipping sauce because it's perfectly cooked and seasoned so well. Fried Vegetable Spring Rolls were also ordered (but not pictured).
For dinner, we both ordered the House Special Lanzhou Beef Noodle Soup (original - not spicy with traditional thin noodles) and then added our own chili oil from the table to taste. The noodles were incredible, the broth was light but flavorful, and the beef was very tender. The flavor profile tastes like if you were to combine Ramen and Pho together into one soup.
The restaurant was very clean, and the staff was incredibly friendly, helpful, and accommodating. We even got to meet the traditional Chinese chef working in the kitchen during our visit, and it was an absolute honor! They are truly a master of their craft! I absolutely love supporting local businesses and people who love sharing delicious foods from their home countries. If you want TRADITIONAL, hand-pulled Chinese noodles, look no further than here!
Our soups came out first, and it happened so fast that our appetizers actually took longer to make. It was unexpected but very welcomed because everything was freshly made to order. As we were chatting with staff and were about to leave, they offered us a Thai Iced Tea and Boba Milk Tea (not pictured) to-go, which were absolutely refreshing after everything we tried.
We're both from out of town, but visit Vegas fairly frequently, and we're most definitely planning to make this place one of our regular stops every time we do. I can't wait to try more...
