I wish I could have tried this place. I was introduced to Nihari a while ago and fell in love with that dish. The only place that serves it is very far from me, so when this place opened, I was very excited to try it. My friend has gone there a few times and says it's really good. Every time I go there, they don't have Nihari. They say not many people order it and it takes a long time to make. I can understand that, but at least put that on your menu. I was told to call the day before. So, I did.
I called yesterday and asked about the Nihari. Of course, it was sold out so I asked them to prepare some for today at lunch. They said it wasn't a problem, but please call again in at 11a to remind them so they won't forget. First off, that should not be my responsibility. If you want to serve customers, you should be able to make a note and make the food you promised. Especially since it is on your menu. Regardless, I said "sure".
This morning, I have called 23 times since 10:10a (I didn't know they opened at 11a). The phone rings and rings and rings. Sometimes it goes straight to voicemail, and sometimes it is busy and can't ring. I finally got through at 12:05p, I told the lady yesterday we would like to eat at 12:30p. And when I asked her if they still would be able to serve it, she said they were sold out... They couldn't serve it today, and come tomorrow.
Of course, I tried to remind her that I called yesterday and to ask them to make it today, and she lied to me saying they had it yesterday but sold out already.
This is such a shame. I would love to try their Nihari, but I can't make them do their job. I do not plan to ever go here for any reason and will go back to my old restaurant that is farther away.
Be warned that some items on the menu are not available and you have to call in advance. But they don't answer their phone either, so just look for another...
Read moreOriginally, we were impressed with this restaurant and liked the food. It was also a place to go if our favorite (Palette) was closed, like on Mondays. However, the last several times we've been will be our last. Today was the final straw. The tea there has always tasted odd to us. I mentioned it once and the lady who I presume is the owner said she would make a new batch. When she brought it, it tasted fine. Every other tea I've had there, then, must have been old. Gross. Make new tea every day, to not to that is going to cost you business. Unfortunately though that is just the beginning of the problems this restaurant has. Now they have two hand written signs on the door explaining that they're short staffed so they can only do takeout and that they close every day at 3. We went in anyway and there were people eating inside the restaurant. After seating ourselves, no employees were present, we ordered tea (gross, couldn't drink it) an appetizer (veggie samosas), two entrees, naan and rice. When the food eventually came, it was in styrofoam containers and we were given plastic utensils. The first time we came to the restaurant, the silverware was "real," and the food was served in pretty little metal containers standard for Indian restaurants. And finally, on the issue of food quality, the naan is now store bought, obvious from the taste and texture. Yuck. The last and final straw though was learning from our server that the restaurant didn't give their employees tips if the bill was paid with a credit card. I'm not even sure this is legal, but either way, it's wrong. We left the tip in cash but I don't want to have to plan ahead to have cash in order to go to a restaurant. This place is doomed to fail unless several changes are made to improve consistency and quality...
Read moreToday, I visited Curry Masala and was initially impressed by the warm and welcoming customer service provided by two sisters at the front. Their professionalism and attentiveness initially gave me confidence that the experience would be seamless.
However, that confidence quickly turned into outrage when I brought the food home. Despite clearly informing the staff that children would be eating this meal, I was horrified to find mold on the burger bun as my child was eating. Upon closer inspection, it was undeniably mold, leaving us disgusted and gravely concerned for our family’s health.
This was beyond unacceptable. We immediately stopped eating the rest of the food and threw everything out. The meal was expensive, but no cost would justify serving unsafe food, especially something as hazardous as mold. This level of negligence is appalling and raises serious questions about the establishment’s food safety practices and hygiene standards.
Health and food safety authorities will be notified to conduct a thorough inspection, as this incident is not only unacceptable but poses a serious risk to public health. I also intend to share this horrifying experience across social media platforms to ensure other potential patrons are aware of this gross negligence before deciding to dine at Curry Masala.
I strongly urge management to take immediate and severe action to rectify this situation. Food safety is not just an expectation—it is a legal and moral obligation. This incident deserves nothing less than full accountability and urgent corrective...
