Despite having been in Cincinnati for decades, I had never previously tried Blue Ash Chili. I will be up front and put it out there, I am a dyed in the wool Skyline fan! The friend of mine I met with eats here occasionally (it was his recommendation) usually for the sandwiches, but sometimes he gets the chili, so I thought I would give the chili a try as well. If you are not into local Cincinnati culture, this review probably won't make sense to you, but there really is a difference in many of the different restaurants' recipes that serve Cincinnati-style chili. Almost everyone has a favorite, and while I'm not saying there are street fights over which one is best, there definitely are some very strong opinions 😉🙂. Compared to Skyline chili, there was not nearly as much cinnamon or sugar in the Blue Ash chili. However, the texture and appearance were identical, with Blue Ash Chili serving their version of Cincinnati Chili exactly the same way as Skyline, Gold Star, etc. all do. So I ordered my usual cheese coney and three-way. The plating and presentation was quite the same, so it really just came down to a flavor preference. And I still prefer Skyline. I am a big fan of cinnamon, and that has been one of the strongest attractions for me to Cincinnati-style chili in general. Without the stronger cinnamon flavor that I am used to, the chili just doesn't really distinguish itself. And I also feel that Skyline chili is just a tiny smidge more spicy. Cincinnati chili would typically never be described as spicy hot, but there are some chiles in there. And without the textures and colors of a wonderful Tex-Mex style chili, once again, there's just not much there there in the Blue Ash chili for me. Would I go back? Absolutely! The wait staff was very friendly and helpful, the place was clean and comfortable (for a diner type atmosphere). But even though chili is in their name, I probably would try one of the sandwiches they offer next time... My friend said they're...
Read moreI was very disappointed. Had looked forward to coming here. One staff was very helpful, and gave me a menu. I ordered at the front for pick up. I let them know was my first time at this location. Waited for my order. When I paid, i thought this is fairly expensive for what I ordered and said so. Everything was in a one bag. On my way out, I stopped and asked the girl who took my order that I only asked for 1 chili, and it looked like there were 2 chilies in the bag. She said I was looking at the Styrofoam containers that held two individual doubled deckers, which I had ordered. When I got home, I found 2 chili containers, one chili spaghetti and another container of I think chili mac and cheese. I didn't order this, but I paid for it. Also, I ordered 2 double deckers with wheat bread and 1 sandwich with extra mayo. I received 1 sandwich with wheat bread, and 1 with white bread. I couldn't tell which one had the extra mayo because they didn't mark the container it was in. I spent $30 with one dinner I didn't order and a sandwich that was not made the way I requested. it. VERY DISAPPOINTED AND FRUSTRATED. I usually go camp Washington Chili, and have had...
Read moreGreat local place to get all kinds of different comfort foods. Their Cincinnati-style chili is great, but so is everything I've had there so far. We visited this past Friday for dinner. Started with a huge pretzel. Very hot, very soft, very yummy. There were sides of beer cheese and Cincinnati-style chili for dipping. I liked the beer cheese but it would have been great if it were warm-to-hot. Both my wife and went old school and got double-deckers. Hers was turkey and ham, mine was roast beef and turkey. Both on sourdough toasted bread with lettuce and mayo. They were big and great for what we were craving. We were both full after eating only half of the sandwiches. Next time I go I'll probably try the pasta because a server walked by with some and it looked really good. The desserts looked excellent. Have been to BAC before but only at the old downtown Blue Ash location, and Mason, both of which are gone now. Didn't let that fool you, though. It has nothing to do with the great food. That's why they were on Food Network. Looking forward to...
