There is no doubt, the food is usually good, normally we are quite pleased. My past two visits however, have been nothing shy of disappointing.
Two weeks ago, I ate the Lila Lemon Cakes, my wife had biscuits and gravy, both of us shared the pigs in a biscuit for an appetizer.
The pigs in a biscuit was pretty much a [2/5], the pigs were slightly warm, and it tasted like it had been sitting for some time. [Sad, but not enough to me to leave this review]
My Lila cakes were phenomenal, probably the best pancake I have ever had. Mouth flavor explosions, really excellent, the sausages I had on the side were really good too. This dish would have received a [5/5 ]if given on it's own.
My wife's biscuits and gravy, was decent, she said they weren't extraordinary, so it's a solid [3/5] for that on it's own. The egg's were alright, but we found two short dark black straight hairs in our eggs. So she discarded them and ate the rest of her food.
Even the hairs in her food, didn't make this review a 2-star. After all, we discarded the food and didn't bother to tell anyone. It was busy, and we didn't want others to overhear that our food was 'contaminated'. Overall, I would have rated that review a 3/5, maybe even a 4/5 as that blueberry lemon curd pancake was godly.
The two-star subpar review really comes from my visit yesterday 9/4/2021. I brought a friend who is also a food enthusiast, upon entering, we got a few dirty looks from staff, as it was 1pm at our arrival. I said to myself "Oh shucks, I really hope eating 1 hour before close does not compromise the integrity of the food. . . . It did.
My comrade and I, both shared the Biscuit Beignets for an appetizer. It was cold. I'm not talking about room temp, or slightly warm, but refrigerator cold. They had obviously been sitting around, and were VERY disappointing. The jams were pretty decent. The cups were not quite enough, and the flavor of them felt very dull. I've had them before, and they were popping with flavor in the past, this time, they were a little lifeless.
We both decided on the kickin' chicken and waffles. There was nothing kickin' about these chickens. They were honestly the most bland piece of chicken I have ever tasted. There was absolutely nothing that could be considered spice, I'm not talking about heat either, it would seem there was an absence of any seasonings at all. I'm not going to say it was the worst, but it deserves not even a single star. It honestly made it to where you fall FAR below IHOP chicken and waffles. The Bacon jam was pure liquid and tasted like someone poured an entire bottle of liquid smoke into olive oil and served that in a little metal cup. It was bad both of us thought the same . I've heard good things, so I honestly believe someone dropped the ball.
The only reason you have a 2 star is the Lila cakes and the Waffle itself.
Conclusion : Not worth it. Unlikely to go back or recommend. I don't mind paying premium prices for quality food, but I cannot classify what I ate as 'quality'. It feels like I did not get my 'moneys worth' due to all of the above mentioned things. Please do not reply with some "sorry, we hope you try it again". Honestly, it's not worth my money or time to try your food again. Get your...
Read moreVisited on a Thursday morning around 7-8 ish while waiting for a repair. It seemed unusually busy for that time of day. The restaurant was definitely understaffed. I stood at the front waiting for someone to acknowledge me when I noticed 1 waitress, 1 barista and 1 manager (I guess) handling 5-6 tables, one table being a very large group of 8-10 people.
No hostess or support staff (food runners or bussers) so i sat myself at the bar. The restaurant had a great look to it. Bright and welcoming. As a former hospitality worker I tend to notice the little things. Things like no music and dirty menus jump out at you. I waited patiently for the barista and she greeted me in short order. A brief welcome, what would you like to eat. It seemed rushed and since she seemed pretty busy I understood. I ordered a coffee thst was made quickly. Shortly after my food order was taken. As I waited for the food, more diners flowed in. The urge to chat with the staff was strong so I tried to keep it at a minimum and respect their situation. My food arrived and looked quite good. The barista, who had taken my order explained the different spreads she had brought me for the biscuits I ordered. I was excited to try the marmalade butter. I always start with potatoes whenever I order them. These potatoes were undercooked and somewhat cold in the center. The buttermilk pancake was terribly soggy. I am quite particular about pancakes and this one was utterly unacceptable. I tried the biscuits with the spreads that the server recommended and while the flavors were perfect the biscuits were not. I was expecting fluffy if not flaky biscuits, these biscuits were rather doughy in the center. I continued to munch on the potatoes since maybe a 3rd were cooked properly and I was hungry. The barista asked me how the food was and I told her while trying to be diplomatic but honest. She seemed surprised and didn't seem to want to believe that it was as bad as I said.i ate half of one biscuit and the pancake was nearly intact. This is where I have to mention that after spending many years in hospitality that I know how this is usually handled. The items that were unsatisfactory are removed from the bill, the patron pays and leaves extra for the top to show no hard feelings. Instead, i was told that "they were sorry that I felt the food wasn't very good and that they would let someone know in case it was something that they were doing wrong." I said that I would settle up with her as soon as she had a moment. I was presented the bill with the offending items included. No visit from the manager or attempt to satisfy me other than suggest I take the biscuits home and put them in the oven (I drive a truck over the road so that would be a little difficult). I don't know the baristas name, she never gave it. I paid her on cash with a 20% tip and she asked if I wanted change(?). After all was said and done I spent 30 bucks for a double espresso, small side of mostly cold potatoes and a half of a biscuit. I have sat down in a restaurant one other time since I left the restaurant business and it'll be a while before I take the chance again. Not the best use of ones resources in this economy unless you have it...
Read moreI'll start this by saying that I have worked in customer service and have waited tables for 10+ years, therefor, I am usually the very last person to ever write a negative review or lose my patience in a restaurant in general. I'm 8 months pregnant and had been craving one of The Buttered Biscuit's cinnamon rolls all week. On Sunday, our party of 4 got up and made the drive. I joined the wait list from the car but know the drill about checking in with the hostess when you get there and knew we would still have a little wait. Checked in online at 10:40; Arrived and checked in with the hostess at 11:00 and was told it would be about a 20 minute wait (no big deal). We were seated at 11:40. When our server comes over, we order our drinks and cinnamon roll as an appetizer all at the same time. About 20 minutes later, our server comes back to take our orders for our meals. After this, we do not see her at all for an entire hour. When we finally see her, we stop her to ask her how much longer that it will be. She leaves to find out. Mind you, we are facing the kitchen, watching tons of food (and cinnamon rolls) come and go. A table that sat down some time after us had already received some kind of appetizer at their table. Our server comes back and says that one of our items is in the window now and it won't be much longer on our food. We finally get our food, but still no cinnamon roll and one of the entrees is not what we ordered. Our server finally comes back to the table and we let her know about the entree mix up and that we never got our cinnamon roll. When she comes back to our table, she lets us know that they are now out of cinnamon rolls. We end up telling her not to worry about the correct entree, as she was going to have to put the order in and we would be waiting even longer. We didn't get to leave until 1:30 PM, at this point. I was very disappointed at the customer service this past Sunday. Had we been communicated with instead of avoided and ignored throughout our entire experience, I probably wouldn't be writing...
