My wife and I were down from Columbus. We checked into a nearby motel and were looking online for someplace to eat. We were surprised to see this place had five stars. We decided to check it out.
Long story short, we are no longer surprised that it had five stars. The food was incredible. We both had the carnitas tacos and split some chips and guacamole. The guacamole was fantastic, with a little tomato and onion in it, but not so much as to override the taste of the avocado.
The sides that came with the platter, rice and refried beans, were both perfect. At a lot of restaurants those seem to taste like afterthoughts. Not here.
They make their own tortillas from corn (as opposed to starting with maseca) and would have made a delicious meal on their own. But the carnitas were amazing. Perfectly cooked, tender, flavorful, with fresh tomatoes, onion and cilantro. Finished it off with their own salsa verde for a little zing.
We were also thrilled to find some sodas made with real sugar for sale - my wife had strawberry Fanta, and I had grape.
We had hoped to swing by again on our way back home, but that didn't work out. We will, however, be making sure we stop by Tortilleria Garcia anytime we're...
Read moreWe were very excited when we stumbled across this place. We initially stopped to get homemade tortillas. Imagine our surprise when we found they had a restaurant, & catering side as well. We decided mexican food and football went together great! Since we have lived in Texas, and California we have had some of the best mexican around. I also had an Aunt who was hispanic, and have tasted great authentic food from those regions. So, I'm not a chef, but have tasted really great food.
The corn tortillas and their homemade chips were amazing; as was their guacamole. No better anywhere. But we were extremely disappointed with their carne asada, rice, and beans. The meat was very greasy, dry, and had no flavor. The rice was somewhat flavorless, and I'm pretty sure the beans were from a can, or there was too much lard added too them. When the core of your meal has less flavor than Taco Bell, the rest just doesn't make up for it.
I would reccomend trying them, but ask to sample their food. They have rotisserie chicken, carnitas (pork), asada (steak), and al pastor (pork with pineapple), we had the steak. It may be better than what you've had before, but I can assure you it's not the...
Read moreMy family and I went to here for the first time on 10/25/16. We had high hopes due to recently reading about how this was the #1 ranked restaurant in Ohio based on Yelp reviews. We went on Taco Tuesday were the Tacos are $1 and you can pick from Beef, Pork, or Chicken. The tacos were really good and fair priced. I think I read that the normal price is somewhere around $2-$2.50 a taco so if you go on a Tuesday you really do save. I feel bad giving a 3 star due to all of the high ratings but the reasoning I am giving a 3 is based off of when I bit into my beef taco I hit a piece of bone/gristle that really hurt my tooth. My father also bit into a piece of bone/gristle in his beef taco that hurt his tooth as well. So out of the 4 beef tacos we got 2 of them had bones/gristle in the meet. A 50/50 chance of hitting a bad piece of meat honestly shows bad meat preparation. Don't let this steer you away though. This restaurant is worth trying and very authentic. The Pork, and Chicken tacos were AMAZING! Just be very carful if you...
