Asian King Buffet: A Culinary Adventure
I don’t know about you, but I like to eat. A lot. And I like to eat an assortment of different things. Not just the same old boring stuff that you find everywhere. That’s why I was intrigued by Asian King Buffet, a buffet restaurant in Springfield Missouri that claims to offer a variety of dishes from China, Japan, and other Asian countries. I decided to take my wife Kimberly there for lunch, and see what this place had to offer.
The first thing that struck me was the size of the buffet. It was huge. There were rows and rows of trays filled with all kinds of food, from rice and noodles to meat and seafood. There were also salads, soups, desserts, and drinks. The food looked fresh and inviting, and the smell was intoxicating.
Kimberly and I grabbed our plates and started exploring the buffet. She headed for the sweet and sour chicken, her favorite dish. She said it was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and it came with a tangy sauce that made her mouth water. She also tried some of the egg rolls, and crab rangoons, which she said were crunchy and delicious.
I went for the seafood section, where I found baked mussels, crab casserole, and sushi. The baked mussels were topped with a creamy cheese sauce that melted in my mouth. The crab casserole was rich and hearty, with chunks of crab meat and vegetables in a creamy sauce. The sushi was fresh and varied, with shrimp, rice, seaweed, and sauces. I especially liked the Inari sushi which is a fried sweet tasting tofu pouch that contains sushi rice and is topped with seaweed and a dollop of fish roe. It’s a nice counter taste to the cheesy baked mussels and savory crab casserole.
We were stuffed by the time we finished our main courses, but we couldn’t leave without trying some of the desserts. There were cakes, pies, cookies, ice cream, fruit, and more. We tried the Chinese donuts, which were crunchy and sweet on the outside and tender on the inside. We also had a scoop of vanilla ice cream, which was smooth and creamy; and some fresh watermelon, which was sweet and refreshing.
We left Asian King Buffet feeling happy and satisfied. We had enjoyed a culinary adventure that took us across Asia for a price that didn’t break the bank. The service was friendly and efficient, the atmosphere was cozy and relaxed, and the food was fresh and tasty.
If you’re looking for a place to enjoy some quality Asian food in Springfield Missouri, I highly recommend Asian King Buffet. You won’t regret it. Just make sure you go there hungry, because you’ll want to try everything, and there’s...
Read moreGot to tell you about the management. We have frequented this place for nearly 15 years and they are very aggressive to their customers. Every time we are there and hear a person say that they have children, the staff will ask the customer the ages of the children and how many. Then they usually ask the child their age. Not supposed to ask a child. When my daughter was younger, we were there and my daughter was not feeling well so she did not eat. She did help me open up the crab legs. The staff came over and said that I would have to pay for a child plate since the child had taken food off of my plate. I advised that the child was not feeling well and not eating. She said that they will charge me because she touched food on my plate. We did not return for nearly 10 years. Ichibans is soo much more friendly. So, now family is closer to the south side and we have started going back to this restaurant. We often take pieces from our plate, just before they pick up the plate and discard the contents. We usually place the unwanted items in a plastic glove that is used at the buffet. We leave enough room at the top of the glove to tie, so it is not full. This is usually a group of 6 people. Today, after our 3rd time there, the staff was watching us again from 4 tables away. She came over and said we would need to purchase a ToGo box to take the discarded food home with us. I have been a service tech for many years and the Asians do not view the Westerners with much regards, so I have known them personally. We love their food and they love our money though. Most do have common customer service skills and would not treat others the way this restaurant does. I did speak with polite gentle man at the front and he advised that many people take one bite of food, then take the rest home and that is not allowed. He did not charge me for taking home the glove of food and advised that it is okay...this time. I said that we did not like to waste food that consisted of hardened breading and noodles. This glove would fit in my pocket comfortably. I would think that loosing a customer that spends $77 each week was worth more than taking a stand for their trash. I would advise a visit just for food and unpleasant staff. This is just the management issues, the staff are friendly. The one writing the ticket is the problem. Just don't try to take your trash home. I do understand hording and people taking home leftovers, but they were shown what was in the glove and this...
Read moreThis is your typical Chinese buffet which they usually have great food for a buffet (seriously best chicken wings I've had for a buffet) and the owners are so so so sweet. I've been going there for years since I was a child and have made a lot of memories (which is weird to say about a buffet, but with many meet ups and after class meals later) but the last few visits I've had has unfortunely put a damper to it because of one of their server I had this same female server the last few times I've had visited and I'm not sure were she got a really nasty attitude with me or why. The first time, she did fine til I guess I wanted to a refill on my drink while she was eating dinner? or something during a busy time and she came back slamming it on the table and spilling it on me. I brushed it off as "I guess I was rude with my timing?" and left without saying anything. Today during lunch, I got the same server again and she just gave me really dirty looks and glares. She was treating the other tables around me with smiles and such, but she really only attended to remove any dirty dishes I had, but completely ignored me for any other refills and such. When she looked and ignored me again, I asked another waitress if she could help. The other server just stuck her hands out and say only your server can help you. That's when I said ok, it's time to go if they're going to go out of their way to make me feel completely unwelcomed. I went over to the check out station to talk to the female owner til my server just hurried with my check instead. I lost it emotionally, and spoke with the owner about how the server treated me (and I hated it too because again, both her and her husband? is so sweet) and the owner apologized and comp'd the lunch. I'm hoping eventually I can go back because generally this is a good place with good prices for lunch and a good spot to chat with a small group of friends; however, that server really put a damper to if I do want to...
