Wow, since my last visit this place has really made a turn for the better. Definitely recommend this place. My experience a year ago in 2022 was not as pleasant and my review read as follows... Worst service ever. Tried taking my mother out to eat here and the server has totally ignored us the whole time. Been here almost an hour and still haven't received my entire order (only entree) , given us wrong kind of tortillas twice. Chips were stale. Food was greasy and over priced and I never got any hot sauce despite it being a Mexican food restaurant and I only requested it 5+times !!! Terrible. Worst restaurant experience ever 🤢🤢🤢🤢 Update* Fast forward to today and I brought my mother here for mother's day because despite my experience last year (which was the last time I have visited since until today) and I have to admit I am glad I gave them another chance. Our server Ed Brian was the best server my family has had while dining out since covid. Such a delight to have a server who cares about their table and is polite and attentive and enthusiastic for a change. Poor unenthusiastic service is killing the restaurant industry one restaurant at a time. The food was fresh and delicious as well with absolutely zero flaws and their selection of authentic Mexican hot sauce made my day. I'm delighted to say that El Molcajete has definitely redeemed itself for me and I look forward to my next visit. Thank you Ed Brian, today's kitchen staff and the rest of the team at El Molcajete for the pleasant food experience and mother's Day gift to my mother and...
Read moreI am so disappointed! I was really looking forward to this place as it was referred to me by one of my Hispanic friends. I also regret not taking a picture of my food so you can see how horrible it looked. We ordered cheese dip. It was very watered down and cold. I got three tacos. One shrimp, one steak and one fish. They were the most pathetic looking tacos I’ve ever seen. I was so sad! Tacos are my favorite! How could they mess up tacos!? The service wasn’t good either. I saw my server twice. When he took our order and when he brought the bill. But only after I flagged down someone else to get him to bring my tab. My son got a chicken quesadilla. It was okay. It was plopped in the refried beans and we specifically asked for no beans. We asked for rice. But nope, he got that wrong. And to top it off (or NOT), when I finished my drink, my glass stayed empty. No one came by to check on us ever. I will give this restaurant another chance but not anytime soon. I’ve never left a $2 tip in my entire life but I did tonight. Couldn’t wait to leave. I’ll be back, and when I do, if my experience was better, I’ll be more than happy to change my 1 star rating.
Question for all… Where do the Hispanics eat in Springfield? That’s where I want to go. I didn’t see any Hispanics eating in this place and that’s usually a red...
Read moreI've been eating at this restaurant every since I was a kid and it was located in the old pizza hut building.
Few Mexican restaurants compare in terms of atmosphere (lovely building, decorations and murals inside, and a patio for outdoor dining), flavor, and especially the friendliness of the staff.
On our most recent visit, our waiter suggested we get a half pitcher of margaritas instead of two individual ones, saving us a dollar while getting a bit more beverage. He also offered to package up some chips and salsa to take home with our leftovers. That's the kind of service that creates loyal customers!
Update: today, our waiter brought us a selection of house-made sauces to try. Them he brought a bowl of the one we liked best!
Everything I've ever ordered there was flavorful - even the rice, which many restaurants miss the mark on. My favorites are Chile Verde and alambre. The margaritas are...
