The new owners are not helping this place. The standards have fallen far. HARBELLS used to be one of our favorite lunch spots and we'd visit almost weekly. After the shut down we got used to not going out as much and only do special lunch outings anymore. We've been back a couple times now and have been disappointed each time.
Today was one of those outings and it was beyond disappointment. We ordered some drinks, chips and dip, and the taco special. Right out the gate something was off with the beer, but my boyfriend drank it even though it was more than likely wrong. Then our appetizer too forever to come out. When the chips, queso and salsa finally did come out it was a mess. The chips were burnt and the queso was cold and almost hard. I'm always the first to give a little leeway having spent years in the service industry myself, so I enjoyed the least burnt chips and the salsa.
Our tacos finally arrived and while my chicken tacos look fairly appetizing., my partner's hard shell beef tacos just looked sad. They looked like they had been either microwaved or sat under a heat lamp for too long. At this point he mentions our dissatisfaction with the chips and dip, that cost $9, and the server apologizes and gives us some story about a scheduling mix up causing problems in the kitchen. No offer to fix things in any way. We packed up the tacos and chips to go and try to salvage our lunch at home.
That server is the only reason I'm willing to give them at least one star, and that in itself is generous. She was kind and apologetic about the wait times, she was sure to check in with us regularly as well. But the excuse about scheduling and no attempt to fix the dip situation really rubbed me the wrong way.

Read moreNot impressed. We read the reviews before we went. Upon arriving, we were greeted and sat quickly as they had just opened on a Monday night (my birthday). The menu looked great. Our server seemed stoned, but pleasant enough. We ordered 16 wings, half teriyaki and half garlic parmesan, and fried mushrooms and 2 pints. The food came fast, the shrooms were good but the basket was small. The wings were undercooked, still bloody, so we sent them back. They refried the wings with the sauce on them instead of making a fresh batch and they came back to the table black. The server explained that this is just the way it is. We ate them anyways and you could taste the burnt sauce. Not fulfilled, we ordered chicken quesadillas and they came out with no sauce or sour cream, which is how we have always had them come to any table anywhere. I didn't feel like complaining because it was my birthday and we were not in the mood for any confrontation. The bill was 70$ and the quality just was not there. I suggest they examine their offerings and standardize their procedures for sizes, preparation, and value. We are not going back. If you know me, you know I enjoy giving a valued review. We ordered chicken wings and part of the order came, and have to wait another 15 minutes for the other part of our order because the cook misread how many we ordered. The chicken wings were not cook thoroughly and the skin was soft. We stopped eating them. Do not know how these are award-winning. The nachos didn't even have enough cheese I could have went to Taco Bell for something better, the fried mushrooms were good. The drink stated one pint of each ingredient and when it came out it came out in a glass. When asked why did it state one pint, what was told to us was the printing company messed up. We try to go to new establishments often, and we were doing the Alice in Wonderland event there and decided to come here to eat. Some of these places becomes favorite like Mimi's soul food and Corner 21, but I can tell you this place is not one of them. Our server Abby was awesome, the front store manager, said that next time they will take care of us better, and I told her there won't be a next time because why would I want to go to a place that now I have to go somewhere else to eat.
