Tuesday’s are usually our date night. Where we try to find somewhere new “local” or pick up from another place that we like. I was going to pick up from another place but they were out of couple of items I wanted and when I looked for anything close by, I gladly found the gramophone. I order the following: - Mac and cheese (I added ground beef) which was amazing, the Mac and cheese was spot on, creamy and cheesy “in a good way” and honestly it could’ve been enough without adding anything. - jalapeño popper soup. Yeap, you read it right. Imagine you having a bite of a jalapeño popper, the soup is the exact taste. For me I used it more as a dip for my sandwiches which was a nice addition. - Buffalo cauliflower which wasn’t my best choice. I had in mind more of deep fried but it wasn’t which doesn’t mean a bad thing but I wasn’t a fan. Now comes the good part, the sandwiches: - Alcatraz : simply it’s Slow roasted beef, swiss, provel, caramelized onions, and Boss sauce. Served on garlic buttered sourdough and panini pressed. It just melts in your mouth. A nice size filling sandwich or in our case half a sandwich and still was enough (with the other items we got) - Boy Howdee. In the discretion of the sandwich they start with (if you’re looking for heat, don’t look farther) which is a true bold statement. We like hear but this was crazy heat. The jalapeños in the sandwich give it a super kick. The sandwich contains sliced chicken breast, jalapeño cilantro sauce, tomato, fresh spicy jalapeños, pepper jack and a mashed up bag of jalapeño chips on a toasted sourdough. Wow that was amazing a great meal and DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE and I will most DEFINITELY GOING TO BE BACK. There were no photos for the sandwiches because we couldn’t wait. Maybe next time.

Ok, so here’s a few tips: park in the pay lot next door. It’s super cheap and is off the street. Next, look over the menu before you get inside. You’ll get in line right away to place your order at the bar and the line moves pretty quickly. Which is good. But I hated that I hadn’t made up my mind yet. They have a ton of choices for sandwiches. From several varieties of bread, to various meats, cheeses and other toppings, you’d be hard pressed to not find something you like. They do let you customize it, if you’re picky like me, and they definitely aren’t snotty about it. I got the sourdough with grilled chicken, bacon and pepper jack cheese. Very yummy. Chips are NOT included. The lower vs higher price is 1/2 a sandwich vs a full one. And again, it doesn’t come with anything. Yea it tasted great and I thoroughly enjoyed my food, but it’s a little pricey for a sandwich that isn’t out of this world with exclusive toppings or something. Maybe grab a bag of chips and save half of your sandwich for later? I’d probably go back though. Food tasted good, the folks are very nice and the vibe is fun.

Rating: 4.2 I have been to The Gramophone once. The environment of the bar was nice, and it was clean. My group attended Urban Chestnut Grove Brewery and Bierhall prior to migrating to the The Gramophone. I had already ordered dinner at Urban Chestnut so I was not overly hungry. However, given the reputation of The Gramophone, I had to order a sandwich. I ordered a half sandwich of The Chicky Chicky Parm Parm. The ability to order half a sandwich was a nice option. I enjoyed the flavor of the Chicky Chicky Parm Parm. All of the ingredients really complemented one another, and none was overpowering. It tasted great, but it could have used a little more chicken. I was also able to try bite of Big Willie's Meatball, the Danimal, and the mac and cheese. All three of these other options were also very tasty, especially the mac and cheese, but I liked the Chicky Chicky Parm Parm best. While not the best sandwich shop in St. Louis, this is a great spot for late-night sandwiches.

After seeing this place making stl todays top 5 sandwich list for 2022 made me have to give this place a try. I’m told the Mississippi nights is their popular sandwich and go to but everything on the menu is supposed to be fantastic. I went ahead with the Philly cheesesteak for my first sandwich here. Wow that surely did not disappoint, the beef was tender and flavorful, the bread was perfect and soft. I added jalapeños to mine and that really help heat it up some. The restaurant itself is pretty cool and unique. They offer all sorts of drinks to choose from, lots of beers on draft and plenty of bottled/canned options. Inside there is a lot of seating with a decent size bar. There is also lots of seating out back, picnic benches and umbrellas. It’s also their smoking patio but still a nice layout. In the back of restaurant they have Star Wars pin ball and a pool table. This makes for a nice place to hangout for a few drinks and get a hell of a sandwich!
