La Quesadilla Mexican Grill — Restaurant in St. John

So let me tell you about this restaurant... after working all morning and afternoon. I decided to try this place seeing that vegan options were offered and I was so excited to try the vegan mushroom and jackfruit tamales and veggie tacos. I'm talking about mouth salivating ok omw to this restaurant. I walk in get my carryout and leave back out. Got to my car to enjoy this food just to open and discover that I didn't have any silverware so without checking my food 1st I went back in just to ask for silverware. That was not a problem. Got back to the car, opened up the food and seen my rice and beans had molded vegan cheese on top. So I proceeded into the restaurant again to let them know that the cheese is molded and before I could even ask for a a fresh order without the cheese the lady snatched my food from me like I was the problem. She was very rude and condescending saying "she must be more ignorant than me because thats not mold on the cheese".. I also wanted a new veggie taco made because that had the cheese on top of it as well along with a refund of .50 since that was the substitute charge and she was just nasty rude. She made herself go back into the kitchen three different times because she wouldn't just listen to me at all. Finally after forgetting my vegan sour cream on the taco She tried to take the taco back and at this point I just wanted the sour cream in a cup so I could still enjoy my dinner. She brought the sour cream out and threw it in my bag and so I asked "this is vegan sour cream right?" And this lady gonna ask me with her face all scrunched up if I would like to see the difference in sour creams?... No, I don't because I already know what the difference of the two are. I politely told her to enjoy the rest of her day and walked out. I will never ever visit this establishment again. The taco was actually pretty good however my jackfruit and mushroom tamale didnt have any mushrooms and the tamale to filling ratio was...

The first time my wife and I visited, she really liked the fresh chips. Everything else tasted the same as one would expect, so average. Service wasn't great. The bad service was topped off by the older woman server with glasses making a $600 overcharge on the debit card. She then disappeared and left others to try and clean up the mess she caused. The immediate issue took more than 25 minutes to resolve, plus an additional 72 hours to get things straight with the bank.

My wife wanted to go back a week later for the chips, in spite of the huge error. We got the same server. My wife is always super polite and friendly, much more than me. She is a precise orderer at restaurants. As the order was being placed, the server cut her off and curtly said "I understand". She left to place the order.

She never returned. We had to flag down another server for drink refills. Our order was brought out by the bus person. The booths on either side of us were visited by the original server and asked if they were doing okay. We were not.

Between the two of us, my wife and I have more than 30 years of working in restaurant experience. So, we decided to give our tips to the other server and the bus person. This restaurant has a pay-at-the-register system. It was then that the original server reappeared to close the transaction. She ended the transaction very sarcastically saying "have a blessed day". It was after 6 pm. The day was already over. Finally, the chips weren't as fresh, and the rest of the food was just ok at best.

I do find it unfortunate to have to post a negative story about a local business. I do so to let others know they shouldn't have high expectations of this establishment. Especially if they end up with the server we had. We will never go back. We will be sure to tell the story at every opportunity. We also will never go to any other restaurant in this...

We have been to this location before and always had a decent enough experience. We visited on 12/7/2021 specifically because we purchased a Groupon for "$25 toward items on the menu; Valid Sunday - Thursday".

The listing does say "Not valid for Tuesday Specials" which should have been fine. We ordered margaritas (half price on Tuesdays and would fall under the "Not valid for Tuesday Specials") and we ordered more than $25 worth of regularly priced entrees. When the bill came, there was no margarita discount because we "had the Groupon". When I asked for clarification on why we couldn't apply the $25 Groupon to the regularly priced entree portion of the bill, the owner just kept repeating "not valid on Tuesdays" which is NOT what is in the fine print. The Groupon title says valid Sunday through Thursday, which Tuesday falls in between those dates and should apply to regularly priced items if your bill meets the $25+ requirement of those items.

I showed them the name of the Groupon, the dates valid, and that is says "Not valid for Tuesday Specials" not that it's not valid on Tuesdays at all. I told them it's misleading and that they should work with Groupon to correct the language. Still the owner kept repeating "not valid on Tuesdays". At this point we had two choices - 1) Pay full price for everything and use the Groupon, or 2) Get the margarita special and save the Groupon for another visit. We chose the first option because we certainly will not be going back to this restaurant and giving them any more of our business.

Call me a Karen. I do not care. Good food, decent service, horrible Groupon experience. There are plenty of other Mexican restaurants (like La Cecina and Sante Fe) that are closer to us and have food that is just as good or better than La Quesadilla. We will not be returning...
