Sophia's is a hidden treasure located on St. Lawrence Avenue (Rte. 562) across the street from the car wash next to the USP Office. It is very unassuming with a store-like appearance. Upon owning the door, there is a take out counter to your left and a dining room to your right. It's a hard floor dining area with dark tables and booths. Nothing fancy. But the food is amazing and the service is pleasing and delightful. Ive been here on a few occasions; with a friend or two, with clients, and most recently with a few parents and kids from our Exeter Soccer United team that was between playoff games at the local Lausch Elementary School (Happy Landings park) fields. We needed something quick. The players needed something light (choosing cheese filled mozzarella sticks and pierogies. The parents had more substantial meals and quite the variety. From grilled buffalo chicken salad to personal Margherita pizza (olive oil really makes this dish that I will have again). Others had a personalized stromboli that was fit for a king with an amazing marinara sauce and little air pockets inside. Still others had a slices of pizza and sandwiches. The menu was not overwhelming but certainly contained all the classics you'd expect plus some kid-friendly "little bambino" - an even smaller personal pizza for a child. The service was pleasant, highly cordial and you never got the feeling that you're food was"thrown together and brought out immediately. No, they used their time very wisely. Nothing remained on the plates; we were all very happy with the service (our tips reflected it) and they handled the multiple checks (matching each bill by jersey number with their parents) masterfully. We were so comfortable, relaxed and easily could have continued to just hang out and waited try other menu items for dinner. But we had to go - and our day was capped with a finals victory. It borders on cozy with one or two overhead TVs in an appropriately lit dining area - no annoying overhead tube lighting. It was soft and relaxing. Like my other visits, we felt at home and never rushed. Idk if they deliver. I don't think they do which, quite frankly, makes this place more appealing and leaves you with that sense that you found the secret hidden treasure. Go in relaxed. Enjoy your lunch or dinner. Let them keep it simple but be completely satisfied with their product and attentive yet unassuming wait staff. Thank you Sofia's - the hidden treasure delight. ...
Read moreHad lots of pizzas of all kinds from Sophia throughout the past couple years, since the opened, and never been disappointed. I am writing to applaud the new menu with Gluten Free Options added!!!!!! I am now allergic to gluten and most places around either don’t have anything, or if they do it‘s always contaminated and I get sick (and it lasts weeks in my case, very bad and not worth a meal). Hopefully this is not the case and you can keep a little part of the over for it, and not put regular flour for non sticking purposes. It’s been impossible to eat pizza around here. The lack of awareness of what gluten allergy, celiac, or even just sensitivity is in many restaurants employees it’s mind blowing, should be in training. Love Sophia and literally tried every pizza type when I still could, 10/10. Bacon chicken ranch was my favorite. We still get takeout from here for the rest of the family.
Mexican menu looks delish too, would love to see a GF designation on next menu update so people like me can tell if there is an actual effort not to cross contaminate, like corn tacos with meat would normally not have gluten. But if a conscious effort is not made, you can’t have it.
Love to see stuffed shells and other options. Again would love to see (GF) next to each one in the future Ahhaha I know it may not happen but it doesn’t hurt to put it out there🙃 I’m...
Read moreI am not normally one to complain but considering that I am newly pregnant, it is detrimental that I do not consume undercooked meat. This was my first time ever ordering from this place. I ordered spaghetti and meatballs. I don’t know about you, but these meatballs look undercooked to me. Not only that, but my husband could literally mold the inside of the meatball. I called just to make them aware of the situation and they tried selling me some story about how it’s the type of meat that they use and that it is normal for them to look this way because they use less breading and filling. The story didn’t make any sense- I’m sorry but I do not buy a word of that. They did offer a credit but quite frankly, I don’t think we will be going back here again. Additionally, I think they are extremely overpriced. My small portion of spaghetti and undercooked meatballs was $17. You are better off going to Mama’s pizza down the road for your Italian food. I do not recommend this...
