As anyone who follows my page knows, I'm a huge fan of Dave's Hot Chicken--I've had it numerous times, and I'm beyond excited that they'll be opening a location right here in St. Louis soon, out in Chesterfield. In the meantime, I decided to give this spot a try after passing it countless times.
I placed my order for takeout through the Uber Eats app. They were running a great promotion: buy one, get one free on either the 3-piece or 5-piece tenders. It was too good to pass up, so l ordered through the app and opted to pick it up myself. This location operates out of the old Courtesy Diner building, so the space felt familiar. There's only outdoor seating available, which works fine on a nice day, but I was glad I planned to take my food home.
When I arrived, it was clear the place was busy, but the staff handled it well. I was greeted promptly by a friendly employee, and my order was ready as soon as I got there, which I really appreciated.
Here's what I ordered: Three Level 4 tenders - I love spicy food, and these had a nice kick. The heat was definitely there, but it wasn't overpowering to the point where I couldn't enjoy the flavor.
A basket of fries - Honestly, these were the star of the show. The fries had a fantastic double-battered coating that gave them the perfect crunch. They were seasoned well and cooked just right. If it hadn't been so late, I probably would've gone back for a second basket!
A Nashville Hot chicken sandwich - The sandwich was decent, but it didn't stand out as much as the tenders and fries. The flavor was good, but I felt like the tenders had the edge in terms of seasoning and texture. I also picked up three Level 1 tenders for my son (not pictured). He enjoyed them, and they were just the right level of mild for him.
Overall, I'd rate my experience a solid 4 out of 5 stars. The tenders and fries were excellent, and the service was friendly and efficient. The sandwich could've been a bit more impressive, but it wouldn't stop me from...
Read moreNo idea what the food tastes like because I didn't get it. I placed an order online for later in the day because I'm having company over and they were going to pick it up on the way. I picked a time for 2.5 hours from placement because that was when they were coming and that was the most convenient for me. The WHOLE POINT of online ordering is convenience. But it turned out to be the opposite for me. I ordered food from 8 people, which came to $127 something after a forced tip. (Which I didn't mind at the time but I sure as hell mind now!!! ) Immediately after placing the order I see the time I picked for picl up reverted back to ASAP pick up. That sucks, but yeah I guess the website timed out because of how long it took me to order, but I was waiting on people to answer my text on things because this is the first (AND LAST) time I will order from here. This in itself isn't that big of a deal, right? I can just call immediately and inform them of the error and all is well.... Except THEY HAVE NO PHONE NUMBER!!! How ridiculous is that? Your pick up is wrong? TO BAD FOR YOU! Your delivery is messed up? I GUESS YOU'RE SCREWED! What ever issue you have THEY DONT WANT TO HEAR IT! So my convenient dinner solution is no longer convenient is it?! So I go there to inform them of the mistake. Well sucks to be me cause my almost $130 order is ready and when I tell them I don't want it, I want my money back because they didn't have a phone number to call and quickly fix issues they act like I'm not rational. And did I get my money back?! NOPE! I was told how inconvenient this all was FOR THEM!
I'm suppose to get a call from the owner. I guess he does have a phone after all.... We just aren't suppose to be able to call him.
UPDATE: The owner never even bothered to call me. I will contact my credit card company and...
Read moreI went out to get Groceries and Beer, and came home with Chuck's Hot Chicken instead. We've been waiting for this place to open ever since seeing the signage changes, and as a lover of hot, spicy fried chicken, I knew I had to try this place as soon as it opened. And I'm about to tell you, it's phenomenal.
I've been to Nashville and had Nashville Hot Chicken, and I can say with 0% doubt that this place is better than what I had in Nashville.
For the chicken sandwich, I decided it was time to go in HOT, and as an absolute lover of actually spicy food, the #5 surprised and sated me. The heat rush I got from it was intense, and I could feel the endorphins running. It was incredibly crunchy, sauced well, and paired with a delicious bun and pickles. I probably won't try the #6 unless I just really want to be in pain. To be clear, #5 was actually hot, not a "I think pickled jalapenos are hot" but a "I have to remember to wash my hands after this or I'm going to be blind if I rub my eyes" hot.
The side of fries was probably one of the best seasoned fries I have ever had. They were crunchy, seasoned well, and perfectly fried and hot(temperature, not spice). We also tried the corn fritters, and if you're a lover of fried sweet corn, you will probably love them just as much as I did.
We also tried the frozen lemonade drinks, and they were the perfect combination to this spicy meal.
I know that I will be spending lots of money at this incredible joint, and I'm super happy that they decided to open in south city. When the weather gets better, this will be the perfect place to sit outside and enjoy the best hot...
