So I looked through magazines of what to do in Saint Louis and found this with many other places. I wasn't about to drive all over, so I picked this place. It was really hard to find. I passed it twice. Said I was there, and in fact, I was not. Everyone came from a different direction than me. I was off this busy road with houses. If i kept going straight, I would have been going towards some highway. I didn't see where everyone else came from. And it's not seen well from the street. There is a break in the houses, and it's in a nook. Not facing a road, but since it's in the side of a building, it's facing the side of another building. Awful location, I think. It's very easy to miss if you are just driving to look around and don't actually know of this place. I had issues with GPS.
I went on Tuesday afternoon to evening the week of the 4th. I felt bad for the kid there. It seemed like a lot of people in and out for 1 person to handle. He let me try a few flavors, and then I picked the Italian butter cookie. He was either overwhelmed, didn't want to be there, or that was just his personality, not a people person? idk. He might have been there all day by himself and was tired. If he wasn't there all day, there was a lack of communication because he didn't seem to know about being out of something to make a float.
Nobody has mentioned price. I don't know about this being gourmet ice cream or handmade, I saw good quality... whatever that means. I thought all the flavors I tried were good. I also thought it was pretty pricey for just ice cream. $5.50 for one scoop, I thought it was $7.50 for 2 scoops, $9.50 for 3 scoops, $11.50 for 4 scoops, and $13.50 for 5 scoops. It does fills the whole small cup, but over $6 for 1 scoop is still like, whoa. I do like how it's not a Baskin Robin's type of flavor. They do have some different crazy flavors that were good.
Overall, it was good tasting, and it seemed a bit cramped inside. Didn't like the location at all. It's too hard to find. That's the main reason for 3 stars. If I can't find it driving past a couple of times, I leave. I'm not going to get into an accident looking while I'm on the road. If price is nothing for you and kids, then try out the different flavors and get some scoops! They only have 2 different alcohol dishes... They need more options for those... wasn't thrilled with...
Read moreRead moreEdit: sadly I need to change my review from a 5 to a 2. My nephew and I drove 40 minutes to get some more ‘gelato’. We were very disappointed. The 1st & this time I tried the Gooey Butter Cake it was perfect. However the 1st time, it must have been very freshly made. This time I tried the carrot cake and gooey butter cake . The gooey cake had large ice chunks in it. This indicates that it was probably defrosted then refrozen. (Who does the QC there?) flavors are still very good but for the price, you should toss that batch and make sure there are no large ice chunks in there. I’m embarrassed for y’all. The carrot cake & pistachio was a huge disappointment. Both of them were very grainy. Almost sandy. This may indicate that the gelato was in the machine too long or defrosted and refrozen many times. . Another QC issue. They both also left clumps of fat stuck to the roof of my mouth. This indicates very poor quality ingredients. Possibly substituting actual vegetable fat for milk cream. The carrot cake tasted okay. Nothing great. The pistachio tastes nothing like pistachio. It reminded me of dirt smell with sand to go with it. I’m going to toss it. (Bought a pint to bring home) Quality control is severely lacking. I’m guessing it starts from the topdown. This is probably why they don’t allow you to taste the iced cream before you buy. I gave two stars because the customer service is excellent. The only one I can recommend is the gooey butter cake. But don’t be surprised if you find chunks...
Clementine's Naughty and Nice Creamery was quite the find. And you do have to find it. Located in a building at the dead end cul dé sac of S. 18th it is not a place you will drive by and say "Let's try that" because you won't see it. But if you're looking for it then you will find it by the line of people waiting to get inside.
It is naughty and nice because the ice cream and the toppings are divíded into 2 categories; alcohol infused and not. As an out-of-towner I didn't try the alcohol infused because I was driving, but I did not short myself in the other category. I chose a dark chocolate scoop and a butter brickle, topping them with candied pecans and hot fudge.
The ice cream is made in small batches and the flavors are ever-changing. The toppings are rich and thick and are well worth the add-on price.
I don't think you will find a bad choice in this tiny hole-in-the-wall sweet shop. But you will have to find a place outside to eat it. The are some park benches and a couple of tiny tables. But mostly people seem to be rushing back to their cars.
Parking is on the street and turning over as quickly as the customers exit the shop. But don't let this stop you from visiting. I congratulate this store for doing such a good job, and have come away feeling that the experience made it...
