First, let me tell you what was good, before I get into "the bad." The location, service, atmosphere, music, and friendly staff and attentive waitresses are and were all great! The out door seating is also very nice. Now, let me tell you what was bad. The prices! Yes, the prices! EVERYTHING WAS GROSSLY OVERPRICED! I feel like it must have been a trip into 30 years the future or something! Only literally 30 years of the average historical CPI inflation rate, an increase of +3.88% per year, on top of a regular bowl of soup at $4.50 could bring up the price to $14.00!!! I had a bowl of soup, for $14.00, Manhattan clam chowder. $14, I'm serious, I swear! Then I had a burger, which was $12.00. Next a tiny side salad of such fancy leaves it was really gross, probably $8 dollars, I can't remember- I could not eat it. Next was a very cute dessert of a very tiny chocolate cake with a tiny scoop of vanilla ice crème, which was excellent. The food was all great tasting, just not worth the 2014 prices; The prices are more for about the year 2044 - No joke! Let me tell you the final price, for two people, for lunch... Ready? ... DRUM ROLL... It was literally $62.00 before tax, the City of St. Louis likes to add over 10% sales tax, so the bill for lunch was nearly 70 dollars before a tip. I couldn't believe it! To top it off, the city's parking meters right outside the restaurant are broken and tick way too fast, we put more than an hour into the machine, but the meter fully elapsed well before that... We got a $10 parking ticket to top it off! No more Dressel's for me! Nope! No more. We're contesting the City's fraud of a parking...
Read moreI recently enjoyed dinner with a friend at a vibrant restaurant on a bustling Friday night, and it was an experience to remember. As we stepped inside, the atmosphere immediately captivated us with its classy elegance and thoughtfully curated interior design.
We settled into the main dining area, where the crowd's energy added to the evening's excitement. For our meal, we decided to indulge in a few delightful drinks and dishes that perfectly complemented the ambiance. Our selections included:
Spanish & Gin Tonics (x2)– Refreshing with a hint of citrus, these drinks provided the perfect start to the night. -Octoberfest (x2)– A nod to the seasonal celebration, these beers were rich and full-bodied, enhancing our dining experience. -Deluxe Burger—This burger was nothing short of a masterpiece. It was juicy and loaded with toppings that danced with flavor. -Rueben Sandwich—This classic sandwich was expertly crafted, with layers of savory goodness that left us wanting more. -my fave - fish and chips
If you find yourself in the CWE area of STL, I can't recommend this place enough for an intimate dining experience. Between the impressive menu and inviting atmosphere, it's the ideal spot to unwind and connect with good company. Trust me; you won't be...
Read moreHyper expensive. For a Welsh-themed pub, you do not have actual Welsh, Cornish, or any English ales as they used to offer on draught some time ago. The menu is outta site on prices for uninspired pub fair. No music is hosted anymore. All local craft ales portending to be in the English ale style, and no, that's not the case. You have to pay for parking save for evenings and Sundays and holidays. Yet another bar and grille in St. Louis with a pastiche or genre of something, anymore. That's okay. The pointy-headed, slack-jawed Central West End near do well yocals from the BJC hospital and the universities will keep it in business. I'll levy the same criticism of Llewlyn's Pub around the corner and now, The Scottish Arms.
Go to John D. McGurrk's at 12th and Russel in Soulard that hosts good traditional Irish and elsewhere folk music nightly, with free parking, nice spaces in and outdoors (you can smoke outdoors in the garden).
CWE is wholly overrated. What happened to the Europa...
