This was my daughter’s second visit and my first. This business is co-located with Natasha’s Persian Cafe so while sampling some amazing cocktails you have an opportunity to dine on fantastic Persian food.
Let’s start with the cocktails. I am not a gin fan so I asked Mike (the owner’s husband and our bartender and server extraordinaire) to make me cocktails that would introduce me to gin that wasn’t your typical gin and tonic. He made me two phenomenal cocktails but what was more interesting was he explained the components of the drink and history of the drink and how it was a precursor to gin and how botanicals were added and it became what I knew as gin. For my daughter he made an amazing martini which quote allowed the vermouth to properly meet the gin. So the cocktails were a 5 out of 5.
The menu offered a wide variety of vegetarian, lamb, chicken, beef and fish dishes. I had a chicken stew (Fessenjune) which was cooked in a sweet walnut and pomegranate sauce. I upgraded to the biryani rice which was a large portion and was absolutely superb. The chicken was exceptionally tender. My daughter had the classic Persian lamb stew (Gormeh Sabzie). She stated it was amazing. Her dish came with a large portion of basmati rice.
There was a nice outdoor seating area in a garden type environment which was protected from the street by a thick hedge. There was a bar that just served the outside patrons. Seating inside was limited to perhaps 5 tables and a large bar which displayed probably 200 bottles of gin. The indoor atmosphere was fun and educational.
This was an absolutely splendid experience and I strongly recommend both The Gin Room and Natasha’s Cafe! Well deserving of 5 stars. Do expect to wait a bit for your food as everything appeared to be cooked from scratch to order. We waited perhaps 30 minutes for our entrees which was not excessive based upon how busy the restaurant was...
Read moreI have been many times and always loved it, but i went to sample some amari during amaro week and was disappointed. I requested unique amari because i wanted to try something new. I asked what amari they had and the server could not tell me, and I asked if they had a list of their amari and they said they did not. I described what I liked and specifically requested something new and interesting that I was unlikely to have tried. I was brought Averna, Luxardo Amaro, and an herbal liqueur. The Averna and Luxardo and pretty standard and of course I’ve had those, but they were already poured and brought out to us so I did not feel I could send them back. I requested one more amaro in hopes it would be something new and exciting, and was brought a mild rabarbaro. It was pleasant enough but not the wow experience I was hoping for. I love the Gin Room but I will probably stick to their gin drinks and get my...
Read more1st time going here. Sad it didn't live up to the hype. Not even close. As first-time guests , we were sat next to the front door when other tables were open. This door serves as the service door to outside, and it's close to 90 out, that alone started off the experience badly. For a so-called higher end place to serve me a can of Sprite is sad. I was driving, so no drinks. The can was Hoosier. It's odd to have multiple servers, but it works for them, and they did a good job. Food gets a shoulder shrug. Lamb pasta dish, lamb was overcooked the pasta was like gnocchi only hard. Shrimp ceviche was very good, to bad it's such a small portion that it's uneven for a couple to share. Hadn't had a date night in a few months, and kinda sorry we went here instead of a place we know is awesome. We will not be going out of our way to return here...
