At this modest family-run hole-in the wall joint located in a strip mall the atmosphere may be bare-bones, but the menu, written on a couple of dry-erase boards at the counter, has everything you could want, from clay-oven meats marinated in yogurt, garlic, and ginger, to endless variations of curry, masala, korma and vindaloo. Food can be ordered as hot as you can handle.
We noticed the door to the kitchen propped open as we walked past the front of the restaurant to the entrance. When we arrived on that Saturday evening the place was deserted. The dining area lighting was turned off except for the rear of the room and a gentleman sat reading the paper by the dim light. There was some activity in the kitchen area and a man came to the counter located near the front of the establishment. Two medium-sized dry erase boards, leaning on a portion of the counter, held scribbles representing the menu with prices.
This unpretentious Indian eatery. ts small staff is knowledgeable and agreeable, but can serve only a few tables efficiently, so it's best visited when not over-challenged by a crowd of patrons. And of course Indian cuisine isn't fast food, so you may need to be patient. But your wait will be rewarded with well prepared, ample sized portions of subtly seasoned dishes, all at (by Houston standards) a modest price. The decor and ambience may not be as grand as some establishments but the quality of food it serves is hard to beat anywhere.
Conveniently located near to the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, an amazing Hindu temple j3,000 pieces of hand-carved Italian marble and Turkish limestone just down the street that provides access and free tours, this restaurant's service is friendly and the food tasty.
There are no alcoholic beverages available at this establishment. However, the modest prices make this casual eatery the type that everyone wishes they had in their neighborhood.
Large portions at reasonable prices and fast takeout makes this restaurant a dependable spot to satisfy Indian hankerings. The flavorful dishes do not disappoint.
The standouts here are the crispy dosas, rasam, and thali. For me the name of the game at this restaurant is the halal mutton biryani. Sit back and and revel in the super-inexpensive prices. This reliable go-to spot offers friendly service, a clean environment and a well-prepared set of North...
Read moreWe were very hungry and went for lunch at Desi Indian restaurant. Place was deserted and we were the only customer. There was only one person in the restaurant. We ordered 2 sets of appam, coconut milk and chicken curry. There was a TV with hello of noise. It was mounted in a corner where dinners sits and the kitchen was in other corner. The TV angle was set for them to watch from kitchen. We requested to reduce the volume. The owner/ chef gave an irresponsible look and denied the request. I started getting impatient and my wife got headache with that TV noise. We thought of leaving, but since we ordered the food, we decided to eat minimal, pay and leave the place. Finally the food came after 30 mins. The appam was very dry and cold. We asked if they have fresh ones and again request was denied. My wife tasted the appam and coconut milk and she immediately spit it on the plate. I tasted the appam with chicken curry and it was horrible. I stopped eating. We said the food was not good and asked for the bill/ receipt/ cheque to pay. The person at the counter started shouting and asked us to leave the restaurant. We denied and said we want to pay and go. He shouted again to leave and we left. If they aren’t willing to serve, they can have CLOSED...
Read moreI and my friend looked for a desi restaurant this morning and we found this restaurant. From outside the food pictures looks really good. As soon we enter it looked so different. Place was not clean at all, foods were dropped under the table. It was too early to get that dirty may be they didn’t clean from last night and we were also little bit scared of virus too. We had no choice because it was before 11am, other places were not open yet and had to order breakfast. There was no separate menu. Everything was written on a white board with no description in the corner of the room. Cashier was behind the curtain, in the kitchen. We ordered Parotha with Chai since the rest of food we didn’t understand and cashier was not able to explain to us. Food came faster. Parotha was good but they put salt in chai instead of sugar. We let the cashier know and he gave us an other chai with sugar. My friend asked for more Parothas to go. Cashier told her that we should order all of them at once. It was hard to communicate with him. This was my first experience in a...
