Stamford's culinary scene just got a serious upgrade with the arrival of Cwispy CHKN. This isn't your run-of-the-mill fast-food chicken spot; it's a testament to quality ingredients and creative flavor combinations that elevate the humble chicken to new heights.
From the moment you bite into their signature Chkn 'N Waffles, you know you're in for a treat. The organic Bell & Evans chicken, fried to crispy perfection in 100% avocado oil, is incredibly juicy and flavorful. The accompanying waffles are light and fluffy, creating a delightful sweet-and-savory balance.
The sliders are another standout, showcasing the restaurant's commitment to innovation. Each slider boasts unique flavor profiles, and the Wave Hills Bakery milk buns are a revelation – soft, pillowy, and the perfect complement to the crispy chicken. And don't even get me started on the loaded fries! They're a decadent indulgence, piled high with toppings and drizzled with their house-made sauces.
What truly sets Cwispy CHKN apart is their attention to detail. The house-made sauces are vibrant and bursting with flavor, adding an extra layer of deliciousness to every bite. You can tell they care about the quality of the ingredients they are using.
While the prices might be slightly higher than your average fast-food joint, the quality and flavor justify the cost. This is chicken done right – fresh, flavorful, and downright addictive. If you're looking for a chicken experience that's a step above the rest, Cwispy CHKN is a must-try. Be warned, though: you'll be craving it long after...
Read moreThis was a takeout order, so I can't speak to the atmosphere. The chicken strips themselves are fantastic: coated in something that makes them look like a cross between a cinnamon-sugar donut and a flattened fried chicken tender, they're appealing to look at, and they taste even better than they look, with an excellent, flavorful but not too salty crunch followed by very tender chicken. It's worth trying all the sauces - the only one that I didn't enjoy was the miso ginger, as it was more salty and less flavorful than the others. The BBQ sauce is really complex, and the jalapeno mayo was a surprise front-runner.
The milk buns were not as fluffy or soft as I'd have liked them to be, and I found their substantial-ness too much for the breaded, pounded chicken breast pieces. The pickles added a nice kick, though, and I'd definitely order some on the side if they were available.
The potatoes simply didn't hold up to travel: we ate them about a half hour after they were made, and they were soggy and lukewarm, though still tasty.
We ordered the mac and cheese and the spicy slaw. To my absolute astonishment, the mac was some of the best I have ever had: the noodles were al dente and the sauce was sharp and flavorful. The slaw was tasty if not really newsworthy. All in all, I would come back for the chicken strips and the mac and cheese in a heartbeat, and I'd look forward to eating them in the car, right after the order is called, like good takeout is supposed...
Read moreVisited this place after driving past it several times, and today turned out to be the day I finally stopped in--what a great decision!
It's a small restaurant, there are a few seats and it it's clean inside.
Heaven B, my cashier, was not only nice but also super friendly.
Opted for a combo order, which included Cwispy strips, wedge fries, miso Mac & cheese, and a regular-sized drink. Although one sauce is standard, I received two: creamy buffalo and smoky BBQ. Note that pickles come on the side in a separate container.
Firstly, everything had a delightful pepper-forward flavor, which I personally prefer. From the strips to the wedges, everything was delicious, including the sauces--even they are pepper-heavy. The portions were generous--three strips and ample wedges that were the biggest I've ever had, all hand-cut. The Mac & cheese, while on the smaller side, was tasty and just right on the cheese level. The wedges and chicken were seasoned to perfection. A minor hiccup was finding some older noodles at the bottom of the miso Mac & cheese, but the top was fresh. I ordered black cherry soda, but it tasted more like root beer, which is another soda option they carry. Despite these minor issues, everything else was perfect, arriving hot and quick. The total cost, a bit on the pricier side, was $19.97 before tax and tip.
I highly recommend giving this place a try, and I'm definitely coming back to explore the...
