I have lived in Stamford my whole life and I always passed Fusaroās Deli thinking to myself, āI should try that place sometime.ā Yet years, even decades went by until the day I actually walked in there. I was told they had a great chicken cutlet. In fact, I was told they had one of the freshest, hottest, juiciest chicken cutlet sandwiches in all of Stamford. Hearing that was enough to make me drop everything I was doing to drive down High Ridge Road and finally go to the place I was always curious about. You see, Iām a bit of a chicken cutlet connoisseur. Anytime I walk into a deli, without question or even the slightest bit of hesitation, I order a chicken cutlet sandwich. Itās just my go to, and to say Iāve had a lot of chicken cutlet sandwichās would be an understatement. It was a cold rainy day, but that didnāt stop me from experiencing a chicken cutlet sandwich that I was told dreams were made of. I stepped inside Fusaroās Deli. It had the smell of a proper Italian deli. I was surrounded by an array of fine imported Italian goods, the kinda stuff you know you canāt just get anywhere. I thought, this might be the place, this just might be the place that has the best chicken cutlet in all of Stamford. I walked to the counter to see two brothers, and their mother. And to my absolute delight, the mother was sitting next to a boiling pot of oil, tongs in hand, pulling out beautiful, crispy, perfectly golden brown chicken cutlets and placing them on a tray. I thought, what incredible timing, I couldnāt have come here at a better time! Maybe it was destiny? I told one of the brothers what I had heard about their chicken cutlets, and promptly ordered my sandwich. I was so excited for this sandwich my mouth began to water with the smell of freshly fried chicken cutlets in the air. But then, the unthinkable happened. To my horror, I watched the brother pull two cold, grey, insipid chicken cutlets out of the fridge case, place them on a paper plate and blasted them in the microwave to then assemble onto my sandwich. I was in absolute shock. Frozen with fear, and disappointment, I didnāt even have a chance to say anything. Why. Why I kept asking myself. Why couldnāt he have given me one of those beautiful fresh chicken cutlets that his mother just pulled out of the fryer? Why did I instead get an old, soggy, rubbery chicken cutlet that I forced myself to try and had to throw out after the 2nd bite? Does Fusaroās Deli have the best chicken cutlet in all of Stamford? I guess Iāll...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSo let me start out by stating. I love the charm and the deli normally. I have been in there about 10 times and 9 out of the 10 trips have been so great. Always greeted with a warm welcome and the food is always delicious. This 10th time let's say was not as great. I ordered a steak and cheese. Which they didn't have. No problem. I was offered a substitute of roast beef. Now normally I would receive the roast beef at the steak and cheese price. I ordered a roll which for s and c was 9.99. When I was rung up. I found out for a sandy and a nesquik I owed $17.83. When I asked if I was paying too much. I was told. A roast beef sandwich is 12.99 for a roll, but the board said $11.99. I guess the pricing board EVERYONE orders off of needs to be updated. Oh and I also ordered regular peppers and hot peppers. Only got hot peppers. That detail isn't such a issue. But there is 1 standout issue that really is the biggest glaring issue. The older woman that checks you out could honestly be one of the least personable people I have ever had to deal with. She is never smiling. She is always cold and quite honestly almost downright nasty. Its to the point now where I dont want to spend my money in there knowing that's the reception I am going to receive shelling out my hard earned money. Just food for thought. May want to have the other 2 gentlemen in there do the customer service aspect because that's a huge negative. As I said before. I love the atmosphere and the food normally is spot on and delicious. But today could have...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThere a few places that know how to capture the essence of excellent service, quality food and a great selection of imported Italian favorites..... Fusaroās does it! I remember walking to Fusaroās when it was called Kās market and as I grew up, the deli just got better and better. Run by due belli fratelli e una brava mama, you wonāt regret popping in!
A few staples in our house are their imported Stella DāOro cookies, fresh bread, dried lentils and of course a couple batches of their homemade meatballs and sauce for those nights I just donāt have time to cook.
Deli sandwiches, cutlets, breakfast sandwiches and prepared foods are fantastic but itās also a great spot to get ALL the essentials if you live in the area and donāt want to go to the grocery store. I run there for raw meat by the pound, fruits, veggies, milk and eggs. If youāre like me and love to support local businesses, go no further and introduce yourself to the Fusaro family, theyāll treat you...
