I came across this little family business while looking for halal food and boy I was in for a surprise! Everything was delicious and fairly priced! They have a variety of dishes that include both American and Lebanese food! I tried the Philly cheese steak sandwich and the beef was thinly sliced, perfectly seasoned and cooked! It came on a soft toasted roll and had green peppers and onions and the perfect amount of cheese! I really appreciated the generous meat serving in the sandwich and that the bread wasn’t too thick! We also tried the homemade fries and they are really homemade not just some frozen cubed potatoes! They were thinly cut and pan cooked to a thin crisp layer on the outside and soft texture on the inside! The seasoning was perfect too, I think it might have garlic, salt and pepper, and paprika, but that’s just a guess! It was delicious whatever the seasoning was!
We also tried the beef bacon!! I could eat that all day! It was thin, crispy but not dry! You must order is as a side if you are not getting breakfast! Oh! They serve breakfast all day!
Sides: We tried their Baba Ghanoug and hummus! They were both yummy and fresh! You can tell they are not from a can! The hummus was so creamy (I hate grainy hummus) the hummus is made in an authentic Lebanese style, not thick and grainy like most restaurants! The Baba Ghanouj was really good but not smoked enough for my taste (I am picky about my Baba ghanouj) We also tried their fries which were also good and crispy enough on the outside but soft on the inside!
We tried the z chicken which was soft and flavorful and came covered with a yummy home made creamy sauce! We also tried tabouli because you can’t go to a family Lebanese restaurant and not try tabouli! It was delicious and fresh! Served the traditional way on a bed of lettuce so you use the lettuce to eat the tabouli, it was well seasoned and yummy. I personally like my tabouli super finely chopped, so this one had a little bit more texture or bite to it but it’s seasoning was on point and you can ask for a side of lemon if you want it more sour too.
We also tried the FALAFELS!!! These are some of the best falafels I’ve ever had! And I’ve had many! They are light and fluffy not too heavy or thick! And they are well seasoned and come with a great tahini sauce! (I actually also dipped the bacon in that sauce and it was so good with it!)
The owners were so nice and they treated us for coffee because we were travelers from California and we ordered a lot of food! They were so friendly and had excellent customer service! It’s real fresh home made food made with moms love! The mom was cooking in the back where all the good food came! Their Turkish coffee was very good! Not bitter at all and it had rose water in it!!! So aromatic and authentic! When I asked about the rose water, it was actually brought to them from their town in Lebanon! So very flavorful!
We also tried the baklava! I personally liked the walnut one more because it was crispier, but my husband liked the pistachio one. I also tried their home made cookies that were made without low sugar but had apricot and almond filling that was delicious! I personally preferred the cookies more than the baklava, the cookies are actually made in house from scratch! They have a scone/ short bread consistency and they are big and rich so one can be shared by two or three people easily and they are dusted with powder sugar, but they are not too sweet!
Their food made my day! I am definitely coming back when I visit this town and I know I want to try the homemade sausage and some of the other meat dishes they have next time!
Ooh they also have a variety of drinks including several flavors of Laziza, non alcoholic beer! We tried the apple and the peach, I liked both but I really liked the peach one more!
I know this is a fairly new business so I wanted to support this family shop and share my very positive experience! Thank you Zahra’s Grill for finally opening a halal truly American business with such a diverse menu...
Read moreI don't understand the high reviews.. I don't normally leave reviews, but this score was so high and the food was so.. mediocre.. that I felt I needed to write something.
Ambiance is pretty bad here, wouldn't recommend eating inside. I've seen worse, but it's not inviting.
Food itself was bad. We ordered a lamb kebab sandwich, a lamb shawarma sandwich, and an order of hummus. Lamb kebab was shish kebab chunks. Flavor was OK, but for ~$14 the quantity of meat was very low and there were plenty of extremely chewy pieces. Inside the kebab the only decent salad used were the pickles. Beyond that, it's got what seems like ranch dressing, tomatoes, lettuce, and onions maybe?
Lamb shawarma was just frozen gyro meat, lettuce, tomato, onions a tiny bit of hummus, and a bunch of french fries. The fries were good quality and tasty and honestly brought the shawarma together enough to drown out the overly processed salty flavor of the poor quality gyro meat.
Hummus tasted like it was store-bought and the "pita" that it came with was extremely chewy and thin with little flavor. Also, the portion was very small - probably better off just going to the grocery store to buy some, as you'll get double the amount at less cost and similar quality.
The guy behind the counter seemed nice enough and there was a constant stream of customers coming in and out of here. I think if the prices were significantly lower I'd be OK with it, but I have a hard time spending so much when the ingredients weren't fresh, didn't taste good, and weren't good quality.
Also, nothing here was "authentic" at all - this is closer in quality to street meat halal carts in the city than to actual shawarma or kebab from the...
Read moreEvery Sunday for the past 6 months my nephews and I have been eating breakfast at Zahra's. It began when I stumbled upon the quiet, quaint place perturbed after discovering, much to my consternation, an undeserved and unbearable breakfast line across the street. Defeated, yet curious, I entered Zahra's. Remembering the visceral excitement I experienced at the sight of their double-chocolate muffins brings a smile to me now. The staff treated me as family from that first muffin; engaging me in friendly conversation and indulging my questions. Since then, I told my nephews and they are all in agreement: Zahra's accommodating customer service is unmatched; there is no legitimate competition. Their homefries require no salt. Their Turkish coffee, an encounter of epic magnitude in itself. I will continue to frequent Zahra's and when someone askes me where to grab a hearty breakfast, it will always be my suggestion. Keep up the...
