Cafe Rio Fresh Modern Mexican — Restaurant in Star

This is my first visit to this location and only my second visit to a Cafe Rio. This store is very close to my home in Star. My wife and I stopped in on a Sunday for lunch before heading to church. I would rate them 3.5 stars.

One of the problems, and it may be ongoing because my wife experienced it when she came here last, is that the AC does not seem to work well. It is uncomfortably warm, so much so that we opted to sit on the patio, which thankfully had a nice breeze and was in the shade.

The service was good enough. I was helped by a young woman that served me well, except she did not seem to hear me well, and I am normally known for a loud voice, though it is very low. She kept missing what I was saying and I ended up feeling like I was practically yelling at her. I told her that my wife wanted a drink but I wanted water, but she charged us for two drinks.

I had a Fire Chicken bowl with black beans, rice, cheese, guacamole, and salsa. The chicken was a little chewy but generally flavorful. My wife had the steak taco meal with rice and beans. They don't seem to offer corn tortillas which I would prefer, but her steak was very tender and flavorful. I would probably get that next time.

All in all, this Cafe Rio has good food and service but they need to get their AC fixed to make it comfortable for their customers. I doubt I'll dine in again; we'll just do takeout...

Disappointing first experience at this Cafe Rio. We went there yesterday after an event, arrived at 9:15 p.m. because hours said open until 10 p.m. They were out of everything and acted very annoyed for having to make more, then didn’t even heat the beans enough. They said the rice “would take too long to cook”, so that was left out. They were completely out of queso as well as mild sauce. We didn’t find any of that out until half of our group was half way thru the line, so we didn’t want to be rude and leave after food was half made, otherwise we would have chosen to go somewhere else. The staff seemed much more interested in cleaning to get out of there by 10 then they were in making/serving food. Part of our group was offered a discount, I was not. Probably should just shut down for the night if you’re out of everything rather than throw together what is left? While also making your customers feel like a bother? I love Cafe Rio, but that was definitely a disappointment and I’ll likely choose a different...

This location has quite possibly the worst customer service. We keep coming back and hoping it's better bc it's really one of our only faster options in Star, and it just gets worse. Attached are photos from a salad my husband ordered- clearly these are root pieces and not pleasant to eat. When asked if he could have fresh lettuce, as these are clearly from the bottom of the bucket, he was met with eye rolls. I too, have been met with many eye rolls from staff at this location by simply asking for a little more of something. I would also like to add for management that a side of pico de gallo I ordered dropped and spilled on the floor after the young girl working the cash register slammed it on the counter after getting agitated with another team member. I then had to wait for a new pico de gallo to be made and she didn't apologize. These are just a few examples. I could keep going but I wont. Overall, I think this place needs some serious improvement on their customer...
