Hope things get better, but it’s definitely not off to a good start. You’d think that a restaurant would be at its best as soon as it opened, but no such luck. We have given this place 4 tries now. Why do we keep going back? Because Star has zero fast food options and you get desperate sometimes. The first visit, we got 2 of the burger, fry, drink, and sundae combos. The burgers were soggy and tasted bad. We had to force them down and ended up throwing out the fries because they were soggy and looked white like they were not cooked all the way. The sundaes were lackluster and even the sodas had little taste due to very little syrup being used in the fountains.
The 2nd time, we tried the chicken strip baskets and Butterfinger Blizzards. The bread was soggy and zero flavor. It didn’t appear toasted or buttered. The fries were exactly the same as the 1st visit: white, soggy, and had to be thrown out. The chicken strips were ok. The only flavor in the Blizzards was from the chopped up Butterfinger pieces, but even they had a weird, chewy texture. The vanilla ice cream had zero taste, but it doesn’t in any of their desserts because it’s some ice cream substitute product.
The 3rd time, we reluctantly went solely for the kids to try. I got a banana split that cost a lot of money for what I received. $4 is crazy even for an awesome split! But the one I had at Star DQ couldn’t possibly be a full banana. It seemed like they slice a banana lengthwise into quarters and put just 1/4 of a banana in each split. I asked for extra whip cream, which I was thankful I did, because even with extra, it had almost none. The flavors were good, it’s just the portion sizes of all the ingredients were so small that it didn’t make it worth the money. I usually can’t finish an entire spilt but had no problem with this one. Heck, I wash still hungry after! My husband got a large caramel sundae and we were shocked at the fact it looked the exact same size as the small sundae that comes in the meals and had almost no caramel sauce at a cost of $3.29. Our son got an Oreo Blizzard that was $4 for a MEDIUM!! Holy cow, this place is expensive!
To top it off, the service at the window was not good. It looked like all young kids running the place, we didn’t see one adult. There were many girls with long hair that simply had a hat on. One girl in particular had hair so long, that it touched EVERYTHING. She was wiping down a stainless steel counter area but her hair was rubbing all over everything as she did so defeating the purpose of cleaning. It absolutely had to touch everything, including food. I can only imagine that there will be many hair in the food complaints, but either way, that is not sanitary and I wonder if they received any type of food handling training. If hair is passed the shoulders even while in a ponytail—it needs put up or a hairnet worn.
Had the customer service been decent and we would’ve got a simple smile or a thank you or an “you’re welcome” when we said thanks, we probably would have tried Star DQ again one day. But, honestly, even McDonalds blows this place out of the water when it comes to both food and desserts. As well as customer service and speed.
I have no doubts that people will continue to go to this DQ, but only because of the fact there are no options in this town. Which means Star DQ will have no real incentive to improve.
Btw, we have talked to other friends who have tried Star DQ and said the same thing we did, I see other reviews being honest about the poor quality as well. My family owned a Dairy Queen when I was a kid and it was nothing like the DQ’s of today. What a shame Star couldn’t have had a different fast food place come to town. A Burger Den would have been better fit and a billion times better.
If you check out the positive reviews, most of them have this DQ as their one and only rating and around the same timeframe. That usually means that an employee, owner, or someone who has a relationship to the business is falsifying positive reviews in an attempt to counteract the honest...
Read moreFake positive reviews. No way in heck there would just happen to be 120 reviews on a very brand new business, let alone any business, especially in such a small town. It’s obvious fake positive reviews are being made by owners and their friends/employees. I’ve not met one person who has been happy with this DQ. Even when I have friends visit from other cities, they complain how bad Star DQ is. It is subpar food and desserts and extremely hit or miss when it comes to customer service, usually a miss. I found black hair in my chicken strip basket last time I went, which isn’t surprising considering they don’t make females with hair passed their shoulders tie their hair up. It’s disgusting. One visit, they will give you a bag for your chicken strip baskets, the next visit, they’ll act confused as to what a bag is if you so much as request one. They never ever put in fry sauce, even when you specifically request it numerous times so make sure you check your items before leaving the window. The toast is always squished, you’ll never get a set amount of onion rings, the ice cream is fake, the fries undercooked, on and on. Just look at how empty the place is at hours that it should be busy and you’ll get all the answers you need to know. The fakery of reviews adds to the pathetic business practices of this location. Wish Star would have got a McDonald’s which I don’t even like, but it’s waaayyy better...
Read moreUpdate: dropped from 2 stars to 1. Yeah GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! We went back (dumb of us). They forgot the shake and realized when we got home. We went back and asked for the shake and new fries because the fries were cold now. They refused and fought tooth and nail to not give them out.
Good news: Artic Circle is going in at Ridley's. Go there until this DQ gets their act together.
Really poor service each time I go. They nickel and dime you on the condiments and orders are often not heard correctly.
DO NOT GO within 30 minutes of closing!!! Employees just want to get out of there and you can plan on soggy old fries and lukewarm food.
This isn't a single bad experience, it's the norm. Can't wait for Star to get another fast food restaurant.
LoL update 9/2/2021 you'll never guess, order was wrong again. Had to wait for them all to figure out for about 5 minutes while my food got cold. Please go out of business already so I can stop making the mistake of giving you...
