Upon first entering the restaurant on 01/01/23, the sign directs you to “Please Wait to be Seated”, which we did, of course. Unfortunately, however, we waited a few minutes and were never greeted or seated. The bartender walked from the back of the house, looked directly at us, and did not bother to speak or assist. In fact, it seemed that she put forth a concerted effort to avoid speaking to us. Finally, we walked up to the bar and asked her if someone would assist. To that she nonchalantly replied, “You can just seat yourselves,” with no smile, no apology. We were lost as to where to sit, considering I was once a server and know they have specific sections, especially if staffing is limited. We asked one of the waitresses for the manager and she said, “He’s on his break,” and asked what was wrong; we briefly explained the situation and she seated us. While waiting for her to come back, an older white couple entered the restaurant, and I watched that same bartender immediately seat them on the opposite side of the restaurant near the bar. After receiving our food at 4:08p, we again asked her for the manager, to which our waitress replied, “He’s still on his break,” and that he would not be back until 6:00p. This would not be feasible, as we were visiting from out of town. The situation was pretty unsettling that we didn’t want to continue eating our food there. I will say, though, that the tortilla chips were fresh, the salsa had a decent flavor (but watery in texture), and the queso was tolerable. I had a few bites of my shrimp burrito loco and it was sizable and served at the perfect temperature (the shrimp was slightly overcooked). While we did not get her name (the receipt says Gisselle), the waitress was wonderful.

I raised my opinion from one star to two based on the amazing queso. If you are just looking for a place to hang out and eat great queso and drink, this is it (the drinks look huge, though I didn't try any). But they will force you to wear a mask, even though the mandate is dropped....on the way in, anyway. The same trip on the way out without a mask, is not commented on. Coming in is also hard because of all the notices of rules posted all over the front doors that take too much time to read. Rules like 'don't wander around the restaurant, don't switch seats once seated, don't be loud, this is not a convention center so no balloons and music, etc.' were amusing and made me think the restaurant must have a clientele of children that need to be taught how to behave in a public place. Probably true, since it was packed with college students. My sympathies, but it made for an unfriendly welcome for those of us who are middle aged, and mature enough to know how to behave in a restaurant. Additionally, I had to be quite firm about my request to sit on the side of the restaurant where we could see our vehicle out the window (since we had just bought items that were sitting in the open bed of the truck). The menu was reasonably short, but the food was underwhelming. The guacamole might have come out of a squeeze tube, and was mostly flavorless. The salsa was just average. My husband remarked that grilled fajita vegetables just don't belong in a burrito. He left his unfinished. Pros: good portion size, decent parking, nice looking,, pretty clean, and a really cute name.

Terrible dining experience due to poor customer service from the staff and management. When my table was seated, the waiter put salsa on the table for us. The salsa was watery and seemed old, so a person at our table asked for fresh salsa. The waiter said to “shake it up.” After firmly requesting new salsa, he finally brought fresh salsa to the table. A few of us ordered queso. When he brought it out, it was cold and goopy, as if it had been sitting out for a while. Somebody spoke up about the quality of the queso. He gave us major attitude and hastily brought more queso out. The waiter took our orders (7 total) and put the orders in. Twenty minutes later, the waiter and manager bring the orders to the table. Everybody at the table got their meal except for me. The manager pointed at me and asked what I ordered. I told him I ordered a burrito loco. He nodded and said it would be out soon. Fifteen minutes later, the waiter asked if I ever got my meal. I said no. He went to “check” on it. The manager sees me again, makes eye contact, and walks away. I heard him ask the waiter where my meal was but nothing got resolved. They both went back to serving other tables. The waiter never came back to check on us while my table was eating. He wouldn’t make eye contact and continued to breeze by our table to tend to the table beside us. Everyone at my table finished their meal. He saw the empty plates and came to ask about tickets. I told him I never got my meal. Minutes later, he approached the table with two plates of potato fajitas and told me to eat this food. It was on the house and it wasn’t his fault I never received my food. He blamed the kitchen staff for losing my order. This was the rudest response I have ever heard!! A person from my table went to find the manager. When he came to my table, I explained that I never got my food. He said it was waiting on the counter the entire time (45 minutes at this point) and it isn’t the kitchen staffs’ fault. Also, the potato fajitas the waiter brought me was somebody else’s order!! How inconsiderate! The manager insisted on bringing my burrito to the table. I declined because I wasn’t hungry anymore and honestly didn’t want a cold burrito to take home. He said he would give me a discount on the food. Why would I want a discount on food I never ate? I told the manager I do not want old food and will not be giving them my business in the future. He never said anything else. He turned on his heel and walked away. I’ve never experienced such poor customer service at a restaurant! My biggest complaint is their lack of training and communication. The manager and waiter never properly apologized to me or my table. They both wanted to blame other areas of the business for this happening. Evidently, nobody on staff, including the manager, knows what is going on. No Way Jose has lost my business. In the future, I will encourage others to visit the different Mexican restaurants Starkville...
