We eat at Cookout in Starkville an average od about once a week. We have noticed the service lately is not as good as it usually is but the WORST thing we have ever seen happened in July 22, 2025-to the point I called the health inspector. After we sat down to wait for our food we noticed that the girl taking our order didn't have on any shoes (we could see her bright green socks under the counter from the booth we sat at). She was also walking back and forth from the counter into the kitchen area, but what REALLY made it the worst was she went into the men's restroom like that with a bucket if water to clean, we could hear her sloshing it around in there, and after a few minutes she left the bathroom and went BACK into the kitchen. I didn't say a word to the manager because she was standing right outside the men's restroom talking to the girl at one point during the cleaning and there is NO WAY a person could mistake her socks for shoes, so the manager obviously already knew.
*I have tried to add the picture we took of the incident but it is not showing up. Hopefully it...
Read moreI was in the area for business and decided to give it a try. The best thing I ordered was the burger that was cheddar style and the fresh watermelon shake. I also ordered a chicken quesadilla and that was a complete joke of a quesadilla. It was maybe a teaspoon of some sort of chicken mash that was spread across a tortilla and folded in half. I unfolded it, held it upside down and nothing fell off of the tortilla. $2 for pretty much a chicken flavored tortilla. The chicken Cajun ranch wrap was okay. The chicken was dry. The fries were mushy and an odd dry texture at the same time. Maybe they weren't cooked enough or they were at one point and had been sitting out for a while. I also had onion rings and you could tell they were your basic onion rings that were comparable to buying a bag of frozen great value onion rings from Walmart. The burger was really good. The shake was good too with the pieces of real watermelon in it. The drive thru was a nightmare. It took about 20 mins for me to receive this meal. Another restaurant over hyped on...

As a busy professional student, I ADORE the Cookout location in Starkville, MS. The food, for the most part, is always extremely delicious and filling. My biggest complaint with the establishment is the variability in some menu item quality due to who is on staff at the time you go. Often, the sweet tea will be sour, the fried items under-cooked, or cheese fry dishes be made incorrectly (if cajun fries, cajun seasoning will be put ON TOP of cheese sauce instead of on fries). It is not enough to ever stop me from going, but it is mildly disappointing when these things happen. They also seem to put their least friendly employees at the indoor ordering counter. Often I feel uncomfortable and burdensome when ordering inside, so I almost always opt for drive-thru only. Overall though, this is a great place for students to come get a quick,...
