Food: 10/10 If you are craving a bagel from NYC, but don't have the funds to leave GA, I recommend Boro Bagels. I ordered the Lox, which is a bagel that is topped with cream cheese, smoked salmon, red onions, diced cucumbers, dill, capers, and salt and pepper. To accompany the bagel, I had Hasbrowns that are shaped like Tetris blocks.
At the time of trying, I had never had such a decadent bagel. It was AMAZING. Everything, from the bagel to the hashbrowns, with the homemade ranch dressing. The flavors all work together to make a wonderful dining experience. I have gone four times since trying this bagel. Itâs a Statesboro staple.
Atmosphere: 7/10
This is a popular place for friends to gather for brunch or a cute breakfast date for couples. There is limited seating for large groups, but plenty of space for groups of 4 or less. The times I have gone, there is no music playing, which makes talking feel loud/obnoxious. Other than that, the restaurant is very calm and pleasant to be at.
Service: N/A
Boro Bagels is a restaurant where you order and collect your food at the front. There is very little interaction with employees after you have ordered. The workers are pleasant based on my 30-second...
Read moreI want to like the bagels, but they are not good.
I saw in the Herald that they are shipping in bagels from New York. But they are shipping in mediocre bagles that you could have gotten from a local bakery, Panera, or Einstein's. A good bagel has a crispy, blistered texture and a light chewy bite when fresh. The bagels here have a shine typical of low quality, rapidly made bagel. It seems silly to pay extra for a "bagel shipped across the country" when it is a mediocre bagel to begin with.
They also focus on breakfast sandwiches instead of traditional deli fare. That is fine. However, all of the sandwiches I saw were microwaved to reheat the egg, cheese, bacon, and other add-ons. The reheating works fine for the items on the bagel, but microwaving bread products is generally a bad idea. So the microwaved bagel ended up being unpleasantly chewy (and not the good, fresh bagel chewy). The only practical way I have ever experienced to reheat a previously frozen (now thawed) bagel is in a toaster/oven. I did not see that they had a toaster/oven, only the microwave. I am not interested in eating chewy,...
Read moreseemed like an upscale bistro kind of set up, somebody put serious money into this place. menu and how to order seemed kind of confusing and i was confused at how to get coffee cause there seemed to be a coffee bar section as well. didn't ask too much questions to hold up the line as it bustling with customers when i went, got the jalapeno bagel with cream cheese and that was 6 bucks. seems kinda high, but it's definitely really good, chewy - i guess NY kind of way? kind of like pressed hot and not toasted hot. confused about the ice cream when they close at 1 pm. ice cream for breakfast? will try the other stuff when i'm by Cool Beans, but at the price point, it better be knock out amazing. actually had my bagel in Cool Beanz after getting coffee from there. i'm not sure how they feel about the traffic and handling another place's trash. maybe they should make a connector door...
