Shame on you, Eggs in Paradise! An unfortunate incident at Eggs in Paradise in Sterling today highlighted the need for better understanding and adherence to the law. I have a mental health-trained service dog and was denied seating, spoken to rudely, and ridiculed by the waitress at EGGS IN PARADISE, Sterling. According to the waitress, the manager was too busy to talk to me and could deny service to whomever he chose. I took the last seat and called the police. The waitress informed people around me that I would not be served no matter how long I sat there. Seeking assistance from the police and sitting for a half-hour in a full restaurant with customers staring, I was granted service but banned from the establishment. The waitress said I was aggressive. I had a soda, never spoke to the manager, even though I requested repeatedly, and the waitress announced, "This is hilarious," as I quietly left. This behavior not only violated multiple laws, including the Illinois White Cane Law and the ADA, but also displayed a lack of empathy and understanding towards the disabled and service dog community. Please forward this to stress the need for Businesses to educate themselves about the rights of individuals with service dogs and train their staff to be respectful and accommodating. Let's work towards creating a more understanding society for everyone, including those with disabilities and service animals. It's time for change, and together, we can make it happen. Only reason I gave 1star was I could not post review...
Read moreWe would have loved to try this place out on my Birthday on Sunday 12/3. New to town (from Cali) & went in, was seated, then ignored for 15 minutes. Everyone else that came in after us had water & their coffee, we sat and watched. One man yelled across the "bar" to have a woman give him his bill, interrupting her conversation with a couple seated at the bar. People kept coming and in while we were ignored. Not until FINALLY we stood up and put our coats on, did a woman approach us, apologizing and saying that it was her fault (Same woman the man yelled at for his bill). But there were other staff that were standing around as well. I made eye contact, 2 times, with the waitress that sat us and gave us our menus. They were not packed when we got there but started filling up while we sat there. It was hard to tell if we were being profiled as your own sign has a rainbow on it, but it did cross our minds. Either way, we wont ever try to come back again & that is sad as we live right in the neighborhood. We ended up searching around for somewhere else and found Maple Pancake House that ABSOLUTELY turned our attitudes around and we felt like we were treated like Royalty there! We are very big candidates of "supporting local" that's why this was so sad to us. Considering you are super small, there was a very homelike feel to your establishment. There was a sign in there that said "Be Kind, you don't know what people are going through." We thought that was pretty humorous when we were ignored for so...
Read more"Egg"cellent food, great and friendly service. My wife and I try to go a couple times a month and have been for the last few years. This time I tried the crab benedict, which was two crab cakes on a split english muffin topped with eggs benedict.
Being from the east coast I'm particularly picky when it comes to crab, especially crab cakes as nothing tops a good ol MD style cake. The flavor of the crab, whether it was real or, my assumption being imitation, was excellent. The batter was crisp and light, leaving a satisfying crunch even after being smothered with a fantastic hollandaise sauce, which was done to perfection.
I have yet to try anything that I haven't cared for whether it be breakfast or lunch. I've probably tried almost everything on the menu and have always left satisfied. In my opinion there aren't any better sit down breakfast restaurants in the area. And we've been to them all.
Give eggs a shot. Try one of their skillets, my wife's go to is the warrior's skillet, or one of their amazing omelettes. Chances are you'll be extremely happy with your choice.
If you go on a weekend plan to have a bit of a wait, but it's...
