I called into the store and inquired about the price matching policy with Home Depot as I prefer to spend money locally when I can. I was told that they do and to come into the store straight the register with the information. The garage heater was about 40 dollars cheaper at Home Depot and had free shipping, so I simply asked for convenience of being closer and shopping local. I was approached by "Bret" at the register, and he was immediately rude and could tell that he didn't want to help out. He continued stating "no I'm not doing that." I told him that I had just called into the store and was informed otherwise by a lady associate that had asked prior to me coming. Bret continued stating "Home Depot?" I replied yes. Bret then rudely said with a smirk "the closest Home Depot is an hour away; I'm not honoring that. We only match local stores." I asked Bret why I was just informed that they did and drove into the store, and he responded, "don't know don't care." Bret quickly turned and I asked him for his name and read the name tag "Bret." Cashier was present that witnessed the behavior from Bret, but I didn't get his name as he was nice and had no issues. I don't think Bret would have been so rude knowing that I have been a repeat customer over the years. I have purchased over $15,000 at this store on materials for my home renovation (all walls, floors, subfloor, doors, custom windows, outlets, switches, wiring, trim, paints, recessed lighting, closets, you name it. Approaching next spring with my roof project I am strongly considering purchasing the entire materials list from one of the other several "local" stores than would be more than happy to make the sale. I can still buy the heater from Home Depot with free shipping and only wanted to spend locally. Bret's rough day shouldn't be taken out on normal customers, and I have never had an interaction with him before. Clinton, IA Home Depot is a half hour away from me and the Sterling Menards is 10 minutes. Review subject to change based on...
Read moreI had to get 70 bags of mulch and when I went to the checkout in the garden center and ( Becky) waited on me and told me rudely that she needed a pick ticket me not knowing what she was talking about because I have never purchased anything out in the yard she kept rudely telling me that I needed one and I walked away and went to the yard to get the gentleman that helped me out with the mulch to ask him where the pick ticked was and he politely told me where to go. Then I went back to (Becky) the cashier and handed her the ticket. Very disrespectful!! I work in retail and would never disrespect anyone like that. Then we went back to my vehicle and called the store to tell them I had an online order that I was picking up and where did I need to go, so they told me to go to the yard gate and let them know then he told me he would run it out to me, so I went to the door “13” to pick my order up and waited and waited.... nobody so I got out of the vehicle and walked up to the counter and which 5 guys were standing there doing nothing but talking. I said I’m here to pick up and online order and gave them my name and they looked at me like ok! So after a minute guy walks over to shelf and doesn’t see it. I look around and see my coco liners sitting on the floor so I grabbed them and walked out! Terrible customer service. By the time I left I was so upset. I would have just cancelled the order but I was doing the mulch for my parents that live...
Read moreDon't get me wrong, I love Menards but what is the point to place a order online at 5:00 for pick up and then get an email stating my order is ready at 5:18, I drove 20 miles got there at 6:18 call the number on the sign no one answer. Went into the store, and no one was at the desk. Rang the bell no one answered. Finally, they showed up, they had one order (bag of grout, 5 sheets of tile and a mixer) the other order was a box of 10 sheets and a bag of grout. This order was not ready, by this time it was 6:38, several other customers pulled up behind and left before they could get this order collected. Then they bring the box of tiles and there was only 7 sheets of tiles. So we had to wait, until they could fid more tiles. I called the manager in the front I wanted her to know what kind of crapshow was happening in the back, she seemed somewhat concern but no remedy and she stated," well I am in the front so I don't know what is going on." I said that is why I am calling so you know. I finally left with a full box of 10 tiles and the rest of my order at 7:15. I get it, every place is hurting for good help, but you may want to put these guys back through training. From now on, I will go to the one in Iowa. They even charged me a processing fee for both orders. They should...
