I recently bought a house in rock falls and I did not notice the fridge made a running water noise every single time it kicked on until I was in the home. it was driving me nuts. I quickly decided the old fridge was better to replace than repair for various reasons. my first window shopping trip was into knie's. I was quickly greeted by one of their associates named Drayton. let me tell you how great this experience went. I came in with a budget in mind. not once did he pressure me to go above my fairly low budget for a larger appliance like a fridge. I told him what my budget was and he walked me right past the more expensive models to the price range I was looking for. he proceeded to show me the models, we spoke about the brands and he was honest about general consensus opinions on certain models. I am slow and try to be wise when it comes to spending my money. I had decided on a specific model but wanted to shop the other appliance stores, internet, etc. I set out on my way without any pressure to make the sale right then and there (not pressuring to buy is a great trait in a salesman).
one great thing about knie is they already match the big box stores on price. I went and TRIED to find a better bargain, other local appliance stores/online, and their price matched everything online (and beat the locals). Drayton had actually called me to discuss the fridge more before I came back. he even priced out an extra shelf for the freezer because I wanted one. he ran the numbers and gave me an out the door price before I was settled on repairing the old fridge or buying the new one over the phone. ultimately I came back to buy the fridge. he offered me the extra warranty but with a budget in mind I couldn't justify it. I dont know if its standard practice in the appliance world, but I get 1 year of coverage with the purchase. for an extra 100 you can add 3 years. so 100 bucks for 4 years of coverage, not bad if you can swing it. once again, he was very understanding and didn't press it or try to hard sell me on it. respect on that, knowing boundaries as a salesman.
as an aside, I would like to say every staff member I encountered was incredibly polite and friendly. special shout out to travis for letting me babble at him. you didn't have to but thank you sir. :)
I haven't received the appliance yet but I am here to rate the store and employees, not the appliance. I am set to receive the appliance in a few days but I don't see any issues coming up. I crossed paths with a couple delivery drivers and they were all friendly and seemed like genuine hard workers. all in all I am very happy I chose this establishment. they deserve every bit of business. if you are still reading this far and are needing an appliance, you should go check them out. if you are loyal to someone else for appliances, you should still stop in to price compare locally. their prices were very good, better than the other shops I stopped by. ask for Drayton! he will take care of you, not advantage.
I don't see needing a new appliance soon, knock on wood, but I know where I will go first if the need or desire comes. thank you again Drayton and everyone else at knie's for the outstanding experience of my first time major appliance purchase. it couldn't have...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFirst off, I have always bought everything from Knie for our home. We went in for the Memorial day sale and Drayton was our salesman. We were remodeling our kitchen so needed all four kitchen appliances. We got great pricing and we explained cabinets were being ordered and with supply chain issues and finding a contractor to install it might be awhile. We were told Knie would keep our appliances there as long as needed. We were thankful for that. I got about three phone calls from Drayton asking the status of our construction and that they were out of space and he asked when they could be delivered. He did repeat he did know he told us they would keep them. Was feeling the pressure but there was nowhere for us to keep these appliances. We finally were able to schedule delivery. I was told there was a difference between delivery and installation. For Knie these days, delivery is the curb or garage, that's "free delivery". Drayton informed me that "installation" is bringing things into the house. $430 to bring my appliances into the house. I only asked for the microwave and dishwasher to be installed and that we were capable of plugging in a stove and refrigerator. Again, I got told I can leave those on the curb or pay for installation. I was told with Covid that they were putting their delivery people at risk for being in the home longer because unboxing takes time and so does installation. He did drop the price down to $400. Not impressed at all. The first two delivery guys dropped off the stove and refrigerator. Neither one wore a mask. My husband waited for the microwave and dishwasher. When it was almost past our window he called Knie. Apparently there was a mixup so Steve Knie was going to be installing and delivering those items. Guess what, he wasn't wearing a mask either. So much for the safety of their employees. I'm extremely disappointed that Knie is taking advantage of the pandemic to charge higher prices for services they did for little cost prior. Drayton looked up what we paid for delivery and installation in 2017 for a refrigerator, washer and dryer, $60. Shame in you Knie for taking advantage of people. I was told they needed to compete with big box stores. Well I called Home Depot, they will deliver for free over $399 and that means bring into your house. Installation is $129 per item. So much for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis review is dated Dec. 2021. I was shopping for a Queen size mattress and visited Knie in Sterling, IL. I talked with a nice female associated named Krista. I looked at prices but didn't have the time that day to actually lay on the mattresses so I said I'd come back. When I returned Krista was not working so I was directed to John. I said I was going to lay on some mattresses etc. When I narrowed it down to 2 I started looking at reviews on my phone. (I note this was a time that they were discounting off $100 per $1000 that was spent.). I found that the mattress I wanted was $200 less online on "KNIE" own website. I told John this. He said he'd check on it but told me that was just the discount. Hmmm, that didn't make sense because the mattress I wanted was under $2000 so technically wouldn't that would only be a $100 off. I then asked about the return policy and he told me there was none. Ok, I'd have to think about that. So I left &returned another day when Krista was working. I told Krista I had found the mattress online for $200 less. She checked for me and saw that it was and not only did I get the $200 off but got the discount they were promoting of another $100 off. I asked about the return policy and , yes, I could return this particular mattress, however, I had criteria that had to be met. We made a sale and I thanked her for working with me and she did the same. As far as John, yes I know they work on commission. I had dealt with him before, last summer , when I was looking at washer & dryers. Any time a sales person says" Well this may not be here if you don't buy now" run, don't walk. That is total BS. He appears to be a longtime employee & has red hair. Steer clear of him if you want someone who doesn't lie outright to your face. My 5 STARS is for Krista and John is minus...
