Normally I try to leave positive reviews with an open mind, but after much research, chatting with a lot of different locals who have lived here their whole lives, as well as those who have "transplanted" here from other cities/states. Unfortunately, I feel the need to leave a very honest review of what should be a busy and pleasant business to visit and spend your hard earned money at.
While this business is located in the tourist town of Stevenson, WA, the location is one that has its ups and downs. It may not exactly be right on highway 14, but it is on a side street that has a view of the Columbia River & the cruise ships that dock there. The downside: Very minimal parking and I do mean minimal. On both sides of the street, there is less than 20 public parking spots. The road is also the only one way street in the city. So you can imagine the confusion when tourists attempt to drive up the wrong way, even with the numerous signs adequately posted. With multiple business on this street, if you are not able to snag a parking spot on Russle, you are forced to park on 1st street and walk. If temperatures are high and you're easily affected, it's not worth it.
The building itself sticks out like a sore thumb against the other buildings that are nestled on the street, causing you to stare as you drive by on highway 14. This can cause an issue since pedestrian tourists, don't necessarily wait for traffic to stop so they can cross. Even with catching your eye while driving by, the lack of parking deters a lot of people. Once you are inside the building, you are blasted with tempatures that can reach 20+ degrees hotter than outside. With not enough adequate ventilation, insulation of any kind, lack of aircondidtioning provided by the owner of the business as well as the building owner, the extended stays to soak up the ambiance of the little coffee shop is impossible.
As far what is sold, it has the usual coffee and other drinks you'd find in any coffee shop in pretty much every other coffee shop you come across. While they do have souvineers and food, if you have any sort of diet restrictions that don't allow you to partake in the goodies provided here, there's no point in stopping by and spending money unless you just absolutely have to have a souvineers to commemorate your stop there, then by all means, go a head.
As I stated earlier, I have talked with a lot of people who live in the area as well as doing a lot of research, I have come to the conclusion, the the owner of what could be a thriving business, has a very poor outlook on the community of the county that her business resides, as well as those who choose not to shop there and the cruise ships that dock in Stevenson. There has been name calling in regards to people who choose not to spend money at this business. A lot of petty remarks and comments made in regards to other businesses and their employees as well as incessantly making excuses as to why their business isn't thriving. I've also been privy to posts on other pages that have made me cringe in regards to their view of anyone who is not fortunate enough to own their own land, homes or businesses.
There are a lot of people within this sleepy little community who are unhappy and dissatisfied with the owner and how they conduct themselves on social media, causing what could be ample amounts of customers, to go else where for their coffee needs and with other places like Gotta Have Java on the west end of Stevenson and The Cabin on the east end that both serve coffee (The Cabin serves frozen custard), it's no wonder the business isnt thriving and moving to a new location.
Unless you are willing to support a business that doesn't appreciate the community it is housed in, you are better off going else where, where your hard earned dollars will be...
Read moreLocated in Stevenson, Washington. I stumbled upon this place in May 2019 while visiting the Washington side of the Columbia Gorge for the first time. I had a mocha made with Ghirardelli chocolate, which all mocha enthusiasts know is the best way to make one. Not only was my drink excellent, but I loved the decor, which includes a number of direct but humorous postings for the purpose of keeping business running smoothly. Best of all, I discovered that owner Melissa Still is as much of a foodie as I am. She gave me a number of wonderful suggestions restaurants to try along the western side of the Columbia Gorge, as well as one for Portland, Oregon. I travel from Boise, Idaho to Fox Island, Washington twice a year. I usually travel two different routes, coming and going, to keep things interesting and maximize my opportunities for food adventures. In the future, I will be visiting Bigfoot Coffee Roasters at least once each trip. Highly...
Read moreI absolutely love this place! My family found it when we stayed at Skamania Lodge, but it is a wonderful pit stop for coffee and snacks for a road trip out East on HWY 14.
I am Gluten Free and they have wonderful savory baked goods for me as well as for our normal glutinous friends 😋. The chicken pot pie turnovers and tarts are delicious - yes both are GF!!! They are made from a local bakery, which I shall try next time I'm passing through. Bought myself a bag of beans after I checked out the coffee bean room, which also includes a whole Bigfoot cabinet of curiosities. I was so in love with the tiny Bigfoot sculpture I wish I could buy it!
If you're on HWY 14 and want good, strong coffee, a selection of goodies and even some Insta opportunities just pull into the parking lot and follow the Bigfoot steps to the door! It has a gas station, but sadly no on site bathroom, just a porta-potty. Right in the heart of down town,...
