Probably the best place in Stillwater for ice cream. If you're not a local or haven't been there before, you might not know about it. It is located off the beaten path away from the main shopping district downtown but it is WELL WORTH the trip. Their ice cream is amazing. The parking lot is a bit small, so be prepared to wait for a spot to open or to hunt a little for street-side parking. In addition, because it is so well known among the locals, you should definitely anticipate a line and give yourself time to wait. The indoor area is small, so the line will likely be out the door, but don't let that deter you. It is all worth it! Seating is exclusively outdoor/patio seating, so weather may be a factor to consider - or else plan to sit in your car. Lastly, but certainly not least, the serving sizes are the largest I've ever seen at an ice cream shop. My first time there, I made the mistake of ordering their small serving in a cone and was barely able to finish it. Unless you are really hungry, I'd recommend a children's serving. You might think I'm crazy, but you will be amazed at the size of the servings! It is not unusual to see families ordering a children's size or a small size and SHARING it. This is one of the best places I've ever gone for ice cream and it is routinely voted as one of the best places for ice cream in the State of...
Read moreFirst off, this is a cash-only shop....but don’t worry much about it because it is not that expensive. There was a line when we got there and probably waited about ten minutes to get in. Once we were inside it was a tight place so not much room to move around. They had a big board with so many flavors and was hard to decide what to get. The young lady asked what group was next and it was us six. She gave us samples and didn’t rush us considering how busy they were. We ordered the child size cups of ice cream and the portions were huge (see pictures) and all for $4. Left a big tip for them. They allow you two flavors per order, but with so much ice cream, my kids had a hard time reaching the second flavor as it was at the bottom of the cup and flavor on top was melting. We all enjoyed it very much. We had Rum Cherry, PB Chocolate, Rocky Road, Chocolate Chip, Butter Pecan and Chocolate. The only drawbacks were, big portions on hot day made it hard to enjoy as it was melting fast and the only seating they have is on tables outside with no shade. We noticed other patrons enjoying their treat under shaded trees but not many of those available. We didn’t know until after that we could have told them to limit the portion during serving. They have a sink outside to help wash off and to...
Read moreWhat an amazing experience I have had at this phenomenal ice cream shop. Overall, the times that I have been here have been amazing and very delightful! The only complaints I have about it are the serving sizes and the line. The serving sizes are often way too big for one person to consume. I’m all for getting your moneys worth, but at times it has felt a little excessive and wasteful with the amount of ice cream they serve you, even the child sizes are enormous. Although with that being said, the quality of the ice cream is through the roof and is extraordinarily delicious. I am also pleased to report that the staff is always super friendly and kind. On multiple occasions, I have seen them accommodate for others food allergies by getting a fresh tub of ice cream and replacing their gloves and scooper. This caused me to be extraordinarily impressed. I should warn you, though, that the wait time and line are very very very long. There is also not amazing seating. There are some picnic tables, but the majority of the time they are full and you have to eat elsewhere. To conclude, I have loved coming to Nelson‘s and I will probably continue to come here quite frequently. There are just a few minor inconveniences, but it is truly a good place to go!! I...
