There was a ticketed Christmas concert when I visited, so only the first floor was open, for free self-guided touring. But the visit of just one floor, without access to the cupola or 2nd floor, was still worthwhile. They had the old jail open, and most of it can be perused. The grounds outside the building have a lot to offer too.

I believe the courthouse was the first Minnesota State House. The courthouse is Majestic sitting on a square city block. Then we walked downtown to get a scoop of ice cream and across the bridge to Wisconsin.
My cousin didn't know we took the tour, drove away and left me wasting away in Wisconsin, but I can't recommend this courthouse enough!
