Historic Courthouse — Attraction in Stillwater

There was a ticketed Christmas concert when I visited, so only the first floor was open, for free self-guided touring. But the visit of just one floor, without access to the cupola or 2nd floor, was still worthwhile. They had the old jail open, and most of it can be perused. The grounds outside the building have a lot to offer too.

I haven't been in the courthouse since 1950 when it was the courthouse of Stillwater. Minnesota became part of the u.s. Union in the 1800's and it took place in Stillwater. I believe the courthouse was the first Minnesota State House. The courthouse is Majestic sitting on a square city block. Across the street northward is on Memorial to all the military personnel who died in military service. It has a good size parking lot, a good view of the courthouse and of the st....

Was standing outside reading a sign, and got invited in by Jack to take an impromptu tour. 25 minutes later, my wife and I knew everything there is to know about Stillwater! The prison cell graffiti was a highlight.

Then we walked downtown to get a scoop of ice cream and across the bridge to Wisconsin.

My cousin didn't know we took the tour, drove away and left me wasting away in Wisconsin, but I can't recommend this courthouse enough!
