When we got there the door was open and you could just walk down. This is not a "secret" speakeasy. 😕customer service was ok when we were there. Our server was very nice and knowledgeable of the menu. I was most disappointed in the service from a social media perspective. I reached out letting them know I was going to be celebrating a 16 year wedding anniversary, to which they did nothing for me as a customer. It was our first time, and probably the last unless they really provide a better experience. 🍰we enjoyed some late night snacks with cocktails. We did need GF options and were able to order chips and salsa, and flourless chocolate torte. The cake was great, but the salsa was very very spicy. 🥃With any speakeasy, I was looking forward to some fun bourbon options. Sadly, the whiskey menu was short and basic (almost bottom shelf) options. Very disappointing, and I would not recommend going here for bourbon. 💦 The water was really bad. Tastes like chemicals. 🍸We ordered the illusionist and I order an old fashioned with 1oz four roses / 1oz knobs creek rye. Both cocktails were reasonably priced and work good. 🕯️The ambiance could be very nice, unfortunately it seem very bright. I really thought the entrance and waiting area was a cool vibe and unique to many speakeasies I've visited. Overall, I think Matchstick is the best option for whiskey enthusiasts, and I would rather check other bars along the main strip.

We stopped in last night for the first time as we have been meaning to try this. Walking down the stairs to the basement entrance with the 1920s music playing is outstanding, I could just hang out there and soak it in. The history, the immersive experience, the cold basement and old building feel of the stone plus all the decorations is A+. The inside of the bar is just as good and tastefully decorated in 1920s theme throughout with various nooks and corners to sit. I only wish they played the same 1920s music there rather than modern pop stuff. The cocktails were outstanding, but pricey at $14 each. We ordered the charcuterie board which was delicious and so much food for only 2 people. They gave us a ton of goat cheese but not enough bread to eat it would be my feedback. I had the Dragonscale and the Sloane Ranger cocktails and they were perfect. Service was prompt but there were not many people there so I can't say how it would be when busy. I should mention the service doesn't match the sophistication and flair of the decor and vibe. Also from my seat I could see inside the kitchen and saw our server licking a knife while preparing our charcuterie board..... ugh. I wanted to assume it wasn't used on our food, I willed myself to believe that rationalization so I could enjoy the food.

We would give it 10 stars if we could! We stumbled upon this place when we attempted to do the escape room in the same building. This is off the beaten path - not on Main Street, but a couple blocks west. It's in the basement of the building and has prohibition era vibe. The decor seemed classy and high end. We went in a Saturday night around 7pm. It was busy - we couldn't get a table (reservations required seemingly on weekends) . But sitting at the bar was even better in my opinion! The bartenders are dressed on period attire and are true showmen!! They toast rosemary with a kitchen torch for the Bee's Knees cocktail. I asked for a fun cocktail made with Tito's vodka since I have celiac and am gluten free! He made me a custom, gorgeous looking strawberry, mint, pineapple drink-- it was delicious and not too sweet! We didn't eat here but the charcuterie boards looked impressive (gluten free options available)

The place is fantastic...drinks are excellent and I only gave them 3 stars because...as a bartender...you can't get offended when someone wants a drink spicier and asks for a simple addition. Drink was good, but made WAY better (for me) with my pepper suggestion. And then you don't give a $50 bill as change when I pay my tab...did you consider I need to tip you? Really? Drinks are unique and I highly recommend a visit as the vibe is cool and all of the bartenders are great (except mine). Jalapeño Poppers were very interesting and more of a dessert...but very delish! Unfortunately I think I offended the bartender asking to add more heat to my smokey mezcal and asking for a muddle on the next one...a super nice suggestion...it was downhill from mezcal #1 😒 My 1st drink was a "foofie" drink and was very good!! Old Fashioned was also good, but not outstanding as are many in Stillwater.

What a unique and wonderful place. We came to Velveteen for a late evening drink last night, having been advised to visit by a friend, and the entire visit was top-notch, from the dark and mysterious stairwell leading down to the basement level, to the classy brick and curtain decor. The atmosphere and ambiance make for an unforgettable experience. The drinks were superb, and I was delighted to find that they serve several signature Mocktails for those of us who do not imbibe but enjoy the vibe. Our server was above and beyond, offering excellent, attentive service and a friendly demeanor throughout the evening. We would definitely recommend a visit if you find yourself in the area.

Took about 10 min for a host to come seat us then we had the rudest server.. My husband ordered a drink (aviation which is a gin drink that’s typically fairly spirit forward) and it was pure sugar. After one sip we told her something was off and asked for a different drink and she argued with us then finally got us a new/different drink. We got the tab and she left the bad drink on there and again argued with us when we questioned it. It was the maybe the worst bar experience we have ever had. The live music and vibe of the place was cool but everything else was beyond disappointing. We also noticed two other tables saying the same thing about the service.
