I actually stayed at the Ann Bean Mansion almost four years ago, in mid-July of 2015, with my husband on our honeymoon. I have been haunted by the bed ever since (some of the best sleep I've gotten in my life- so comfortable), so I called Jeremy this past week to ask about the linens. His helpfulness on the phone led me to leave this review and reminded me why I should have done so a long time ago!
Let me start off by saying that we stayed at the Ann Bean Mansion not only because it looked great online, but because my parent-in-laws had stayed there a few times, in a couple of the different rooms and really enjoyed it.
The location is awesome. A short stroll will bring you to an outdoor staircase down to the waterfront/main drag of quaint Stillwater, where you can do many different things (window shop, eat at LoLo!, take a ferry cruise, watch the boats, ingest huge amounts of ice cream, etc.). The neighborhood is so fun to walk through with many other beautiful Victorian homes to ogle.
I know the price of a stay at the Ann Bean Mansion is higher than staying elsewhere (like a regular hotel room, for example), but with the peace and small number of other guests, and the quality of the bed, linens, towels, robes, service, food, location, porch swing, gardens, history, charm...it's more than completely reasonably priced. We were (and are) a poor young married couple, and we knew we were making an investment in time and money well spent in a great place to spend it.
It's also not a small compliment to say that we felt at home there. It was comfortable and we were clearly welcomed. Because it was our honeymoon and we were staying 5 nights, Jeremy also gave us a discount, which was a classy and appreciated gesture.
So, here's my completely biased opinion (having only stayed there once in one room): The Tower Room is the best. It has beautiful views, and a great little attic space where you can carry up your tray for breakfast (yum- poached pears!) and get some cards in (cribbage, anyone?). The first night we were there it even thunder-stormed so we went up into the tower to watch the lightning. The hot tub is great, the double shower is even better, there is a mini fridge so we brought some simple food for snacks, lunches, etc. We will be staying sometime during the winter so we can try the fireplace out. And, did I mention the bed?
My dear friend and her husband stayed there a couple weekends ago on our recommendation. They stayed in the Hersey Room and reported of their stay, "It was perfect," so I bet the charm extends beyond the Tower Room. :)
In addition, the history of the house is so cool. Make sure to ask about it.
To wrap up, a heartfelt thank you to Jeremy and Erin! You only (hopefully) get one honeymoon. Ours will continue to be, I'm sure, some of the best memories of our lives. Thank you for the big part you played in that and for home-making and...
Read moreMy wife and I wanted a few nights of peace in Stillwater before having our first child and the Ann Bean Mansion proved to be the perfect place.
The room we stayed in, The Tower Room, was cozy and just perfect. The huge tub/whirlpool was immensely relaxing and the huge shower just dripped of luxury (pun intended). The tower room itself, while a little tricky to get to with the steep stairs, was a fun little alcove with a nice view of the city.
The innkeepers, Erin and Jeremy, were fantastic; everything you'd want in a couple running a bed and breakfast. They were immensely friendly, extremely accommodating and willing to get you pretty much anything you needed. It was relaxing and reassuring to know they were there to help!
The breakfasts? Wonderful. Unique and delicious dishes that I looked forward to every morning. Erin is a great cook and again, the emphasis is all on how to best serve you, the guest. We had some requests (gluten free breakfast; we wanted to eat in the room, needed to eat early a couple mornings) and Erin was more than generous in ensuring our needs were met.
Overall, a fantastic experience. I don't know what else I would want in a B&B. Next time we are in Stillwater I don't think I would even want to try another place; I'd go right back to the Ann...
Read moreI feel like 5 stars doesn’t do the Ann Bean Mansion B & B & owners justice! If we could give them 10/5 we would! We absolutely loved sitting in the dining room for breakfast and talking with Brian the owner. We could have stayed and chatted ALL day, and you can tell how passionate he is about his B&B, as well as the history of it & making sure his guests have the best stay possible. Breakfast was SO delicious too!! I would HIGHLY recommend having breakfast in the dining room!!! From start to finish everything was absolutely amazing. There’s an easy online booking option as well as checking in/out was a breeze. We absolutely LOVED learning the history of the mansion at check in with our complimentary drinks. We stayed in the Tower room, and loved every aspect from the tub, to the top of the tower to the super cool shower. Our only regret is not spending more time in the room! It was a very quiet stay as well, you couldn’t hear anyone else staying. The house itself is stunning, and full of so much history & character. Everything area of the house was spotless/very clean as well. The neighborhood was so cute, and very safe too. We had the best time at the Ann Bean, it was such a fun & romantic get away! Also thank you Brian for everything!!! We can’t wait...
