Steak ’n Shake has always held a special place in my heart — it’s a nostalgic part of my childhood and a place filled with wonderful memories, particularly those shared with my late grandmother. During a recent visit to the Lithonia location, I was hopeful for a great experience, and while there were some highlights, there were also some definite letdowns.
First, the good: the service was friendly and efficient, which I truly appreciated. The staff made the ordering process smooth, even though it’s a bit different now — you place your order via a kiosk and receive a QR code to get your drinks, rather than ordering directly with a server. It’s a modernized system that worked well enough and kept things moving. The location itself is convenient and easy to access.
The food, overall, was very good. Most of our meal was fresh, flavorful, and lived up to what I remember loving about Steak ’n Shake. However, the dish that mattered most to me — the Chili 5-Way, something I ordered as a personal tribute to my grandmother — was deeply disappointing. It arrived cold and unappetizing, to the point that I had to throw it away without more than a bite. That truly broke my heart, considering the sentimental value it held for me.
Additionally, while the service was kind, the restaurant itself could use a bit more attention to cleanliness. It wasn’t terrible, but the dining area and some other spaces definitely felt like they needed a deep refresh to match the quality of the food and service.
In the end, I’m grateful for the moments that lived up to my memories, but it’s hard to ignore the disappointment surrounding the one item that meant the most to me. I hope management takes this feedback seriously because with a little more attention to detail, this location could easily honor both the brand’s legacy and the loyal guests who return looking for a piece...
Read moreI went thru the drive thru and when I received my order, my fries were half full. I figured maybe this is a medium fry and the large would be full. But I drove around and asked. This rude, disrespectful teen actually had the audacity to say, "I didn't give that to you like that." I was like excuse me! I could not believe this dumb child was accusing me of eating half fries and going back in the drive thru to get a refill. smh I heard her tell the manager that I ate the fries and the manager hushing her so I was gonna tear her a new one when she got to the window but the manager came and just apologized and gave me a fresh order. When I got home, I was so upset that this dumb child would accuse me, a grown ass woman, of doing something so petty that I called the manager that had given me the fries and told her I heard what her employee said and she was shocked that I heard the loud idiot thru the glass and assured me she had spoken to her. I then told her she originally got my order wrong so she had to transfer my fries from one bag to another and that's when I probably lost all of my fries and she should have checked the bag instead of accusing a customer of doing something so dumb. She agreed and said she noticed she had an attitude about the wrong order as if it was my fault even though I spoke quite clearly thru the speaker. Although the manager handled the situation professionally, I cannot go back there because if I run into this little idiot, I don't know what I might say to her and I don't want to go there. If I had to rate the food separate from the customer service, the food would get a 5 and the customer service a -5 because that was so ridiculous and disrespectful that as good as the food was, I will not be returning. Customer service over quality. I will not patronize an establishment that employs people who treat customers...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I had our first and LAST dining experience with Steak n' Shake Tuesday night. When we first walked in we were happy with the prices and the cashier's attitude. We gave her a $2.00 tip because we were happy with the service at first. We ordered Two Triple stack meals with a shake and Sprite on the side. We were told it wouldn't take much time so we sat down and waited for our food. Literally 15 minutes passed by as we waited for our food, and when our food finally arrived the MANAGER on duty joked with co-workers about how to pronounce my girlfriends name then when I corrected this manager she look at her coworker and laughed saying "girl I don't know" I was applauded by this but still waited for our shake & drinks WHICH should have been served to us first. We then waited another 20 minutes for our drinks I had to repeatedly ask different workers about why our shakes weren't being made and kept being told "Oh okay let me check on them.. Their being made" but would continue waiting. Finally when we're given our ONE shake, they forgot about my Sprite and we had to wait another UNREASONABLE 5 minutes for that to be made. Our food was cold by the time we even got to our car and others inside the dining area who came in way after us were served first. This is the worst dining experience I've ever had. I worked at Wendy's before and I must say this Steak n' Shake shows no sense of urgency or care. I don't remember the managers names but the woman joking about my girlfriends name was a taller brown skin woman who's name might be "Gabby" and the other manager was a Taller brown skin guy with a short haircut and glasses. Please straighten this store...
