I was a long term stay at the Fairfield Inn and Suites Marriott in Lithonia, Georgia and patronized the business for nearly $3,800. During my stay, I learned the following.
I learned that they have bugs. I killed the 6th bug in the hotel room on Saturday morning September 13, 2014.
I learned not to expect the bathroom to be cleaned “thoroughly” at an excellent level. If you go, prepare yourself to clean the bathroom tile and toilet. Bring your own coffee cups and plastic cups; although, they are supposed to be provided in the room.
I learned that the housekeeping and maintenance staff are very hospitable and humble.
I learned that the manager’s behavior was initial kindness then it turned into “street” behavior. She looked my daughter up and down with an inappropriate look not becoming for someone in her position. Her behavior and a lack of excellent customer service were detailed in a three page letter to the Executive Chairman and Chairman of the Board of Marriott along with a number of other things. The lady that called me on behalf of his office minimized the mediocre service and examples of disrespect. She in essence regarded the detailed events listed in my letter as not being serious. This was a green light for the manager and others to continue their mediocrity and inappropriate behaviors and that is precisely what the manager did; she continued her inappropriate behavior. Thank you to the executive office for supporting a lack of excellent customer service, street behavior, and a lack of hospitality in your hospitality business.
I learned that the new General Manager’s behavior initially was deceptive kindness. When she became upset, her behavior was very rude, inhospitable, and unprofessional. When I communicated again the specific thing that housekeeping overlooked that denotes excellent housekeeping, she basically told me that I could leave. Her comment was with her hands pressed together and the upper part of her frame leaning in towards me, "You know that you do not have to stay here." Thus, I learned that the new General Manager does “not” want “constructive criticism.” My daughter made a good analogy for her. She said that if you are in a specific store in the mall and you communicate something to the manager, the manager does not tell you that you can leave and there are other stores for you to shop. Using her hands demonstratively to the left and the right, the general manager told me approximately three times that there are three other hotels that I can go to.
I learned that the General Manager will waste tax payer money and call the police and have you removed from the hotel for “not” doing anything wrong, no crime committed and no law broken. She unfortunately lacks leadership skills. She should have “directly” told me that she wanted me to leave the hotel as soon as possible. Her reason would have been because I communicated my hotel concerns in a mildly and in a professional manner. She became offended by the constructive criticism because she is comfortable in mediocrity and excellent customer service is not her forte. She became unraveled, enraged and started hollering. Please keep in mind that this is a hospitality business.
Food for thought - You might not remember what a person did; but, you will remember how that person treated you. I will “not” be patronizing...
Read moreNot too happy with the stay..... The hotel is in the most perfect location. There is a mall right beside me, an AMC Theatre, and many restaurants. It's pretty easy to get in and out of and Parking is easy and FREE. If you leave out early in the morning, if you get to see some beautiful ducks walking in the field.
Check-in went quite smoothly but I was a bit disappointed. Sydney acted a bit on the snobby or irritated side, as she checked me in. I usually travel for myself but I'm actually working and had to use my corporate account. She took me from the room that I booked online, which was the standard room showing on the website, and put me in the most basic room, she said...I guess she felt I needed that bit of information.... Even though I'm an elite member with the company, I didn't get any perks. They don't allow that. For all you business travelers...
Marquita was quick to get the pillows changed for me. Housekeeping staff was super sweet and fast!!! The room is adequate. It has a super comfy bed, a mini refrigerator and microwave. The coffee machine is in the bathroom, which I hate. There are hardly any plugs. That is a pet peeve. I had to plug my phone in the bathroom so I could plug my laptop at the desk. Who has only one plug at a desk???
My room key would deactivate and The heat and air seemed to work fine, until nighttime. If I set the temp to 75, I would wake up sweating and it would be on 83!!! It would constantly jump around. The water pressure is a little low and it takes the tub filling up, almost completely, before the water gets lukewarm... not pleasant to bathe in. It never got hot, the entire trip.
The hotel is quiet. I really didn't have any neighbors messing with me or housekeeping staff... that's nice!!!
If you don't care about the hot water or the water pressure and don't need many plugs for devices - then this would be a great hotel to stay at.
There is an ATM in the lobby which is very convenient. There's a free breakfast which was really good. They had oatmeal, cereal, waffles eggs and meat, some pastries, yogurt and milk.
I do want to add.. there was a sweet young lady working the front desk in the evening who was super sweet and perky. Whenever I called the front desk, she was just so nice and she did try to change my room the last night I was there but I told her it wouldn't be worth trying to move everything. She did check on me. I feel bad I forgot her name but she had pigtails and a sweet voice....
Read moreThis was my first time staying at a Fairfield Inn & Suites. I read the reviews and thought I'd give it a try. I was able to check in early, and that was great, but the girl at the front desk seemed a little impatient (I think she was new) and she put me in a handicapped room (which I did not request). When I got to the room the iron didn't work ... the buttons on it were broken. I took the iron downstairs and the very nice female manager invited me into her office and she apologized and said she would bring me up another iron. I went back to my room, but no iron arrived. I called back downstairs, and the manager apologized and explained there was a "situation" she was taking care of but she was sending someone with an iron. Shortly afterwards, a hotel worker brought me another iron. I plugged it in immediately (because I had friends picking me up) and this iron would not heat up. I tried over and over again, but to no avail. I went back downstairs and told the same manager that this iron, too, did not work. She plugged it in and apologized and said she would make sure I got a working iron. I waited, and waited, and the manager called up to my room to let me know they were getting an iron and she didn't want me to think she'd forgotten about me. Finally, the same worker brought me the third iron and she said they had to get it from another hotel.
The bathroom was nice and clean, but the sink is very high and the basin is far away from the edge of the counter top and it's uncomfortable to bend over when trying to brush your teeth.
Also, the door handle facing the inside of the bathroom door was broken. I just couldn't go through anymore, so I made sure I told them before I checked out.
The hotel was very clean and the room was nice. The bed was not very comfortable, and I have low back problems and I woke up with a sore back both days. The bed is just too soft; not enough firm support for my back.
The hotel staff was friendly, and the breakfast was excellent. It was...
