I'm not somebody that usually likes to give negative reviews because every place is different and every preference is different. What somebody may love other people might not. However when it came to collab kitchen, based on their prices it's really hard to not be someone negative. When you first walk in it's obviously a very nice place. Very well decorated and the ambience is excellent. They have a nice little market when you enter the front door. The Styling is great. I'm trying to give some compliments. However when it came to the food, greatly underwhelming. Our server was great, so I'm not complaining about the service from her. But my wife has a preference when it comes to her eggs. She does not really like the yolk so she always does egg whites. She literally orders egg whites at any small diner with a short order cook working by themselves and it's not a problem. However at collab, this chef did not want to go to the trouble. As for my dish I ordered the shrimp and grits ($21) as it is one of my favorites and there are a few local restaurants that do it excellent. But I like to give every place a chance to try different takes on the dish. The dish is described on the menu as jalapeno cheesy grits with fried leeks and shrimp. First off, the fried leeks were disgusting. Dry and Ridgid, so very difficult to chew. I swear to God I literally almost choked on them. The grits were runny and extremely bland considering they were supposed to be "jalapeño cheddar ". And the Shrimp? Almost not existent. Small, and only about 3 of them. Seeing they didn't have the egg whites that my wife requested, she got their French toast with strawberry compote($18 for Frenchtoast?). The toast was ok but weird. It was basically chicken fried with a panko type breading. And the compote was not bad but the presents was just kind of dumped on the plate. I got a side of their chicken sausage ($8). They first brought us smoked chicken salad by accident. I'm a fan of smoked anything and chicken salad, so I took a bite and it was just strange tasting. Not my thing. Then the sausage is actually came out. They were good but one of them was really salty. Like cooked and then salted after being plated. So having just one unsweetened tea and a coffee(that was excellent) the bill was $71 not including tip. I'm sorry, but for just under 100 bucks, I would hope that our breakfast would have been outstanding rather than underwhelming. So many better options food wise(for brunch at least) for much more reasonable cost. Literally Kyle Gs on the beach is cheaper and 100xs better food. You may love it, but it was so disappointing, and overpriced, I don't know if I would give it another shot even for lunch or dinner. Hope they figure it out because it has so much potential and is really...
Read moreBeen a while since a wrote a whimsical review. This month a brand new restaurant has opened out at the end of Martin Luther king Jr. Blvd going towards Colorado Ave . Colab kitchen has your every need. The restaurant itself has the warm ambiance like a wynwood MIAMI feel. Nice aquatic blue bar, a small lounge for small get together an outside patio, a fire pit for those lonesome chilly nights and they even have live music Saturday nights all outside on the smooth grass yard outback. You can sit anywhere you like it's that spacious. When you 1st walk in they have a mini market full of organic ingredients, fresh baked bread, pastries with gluten free, vegan options, ice creams, meats and coffee & jams.
Going to the food now . It was semi busy today, but they were prompt . minor flaws that I point out, but nothing critical. The burratta (buffalo mozzarella with cream curds) always rich & decadent, pesto was bright and vibrant, the toasted bread was just a vessel tasted good although a nice brush of extra virgin olive oil would of taken the toast from point A to point E and the Tomato confit was bland couple grains of sea salt would have helped.
Moving on the Smoked brisket sandwich is everything I want in a sandwich. Meaty, smoky, tender, fatty, sweetness from the tomato jam & of course cheese, but in fairness a touch of acidity would of helped it is a very rich sandwich, but the 1st bite was very spot on the crisp crunch of the bread and the cheese was great. If cheese is not spreading of gooey proportions then I don't want it, but it didn't fail the test. It is accompanied by fresh greens tossed in a light vinaigrette still a touch of salt will make anyone appreciate the greens even more .
Pizza no complaints on pizza it has that rich salinity about it. Chewy, crispy crust the recipe is spot on, the balance level of flavor is awesome, pimento cheese made in house and also the charcuterie, or butchery of making sausage also done in house is extraordinary. There are no shortcuts here just a very driven culinary team that knows what they are doing. Brunch starts this week Saturday & Sundays I'm sure to make it there soon. Price range affordable $15- 21 mark dinner will be available...
Read moreI canceled my reservation at Kyle G’s for this place and Wow what a disappointment. When we got there we had to wait an additional 30 minutes because they put us at a high top so we requested a normal table and when we finally sat down we realized the online menu isn’t reflective of the physical menu at all. My mother and I both had our taste buds set on the short rib Benedict as Benedict is my favorite but had to settle for the omlet instead. Even though the omlet was good I specifically chose this restaurant for the short rib Benedict as it was a special birthday brunch for me, and it’s really annoying to advertise something else and get there and not be able to even order what you want. This is not a seafood restaurant so crab Benedict on a side street is just bizarre. Then my husband got his brisket hash and there were literally 4 little pieces of brisket and the rest was all sweet potato for 21$ that is completely unacceptable. I overheard the waitress saying they were low on brisket so I guess they just threw what they had on a plate and covered it up with some eggs. My husband never complains and this was his first experience and he doesn’t even want to go back. We spent 109$ and left feeling really bad about the entire experience . There’s barely any kids toys my son sat there bored the entire time, the parking situation is really bad and it’s just way too busy on the weekends to deal with that nonsense ever again. No birthday perks either not even a free cup of coffee lol just a happy birthday from the waitress! I feel as if this place is a little too overrated at this point. I wish I went to Kyle...
