The ambiance is laid-back and welcoming, with a rustic charm that makes you feel right at home. While their menu boasts a wide array of smoked delicacies, from brisket to ribs, I have to rave about their Feast Burger. This isn't your average burger – it's a towering masterpiece that showcases Redwood's mastery of smoked meats. The patty itself is cooked to juicy perfection, infused with a smoky depth that sets it apart. But what truly elevates this burger is the generous topping of their signature pulled pork, adding a layer of tender, smoky goodness that melts in your mouth. The combination of the savory beef, the sweet and smoky pork, and the perfectly complementing toppings created a symphony of flavors that left me utterly satisfied. It's a true feast, as the name suggests, and a must-try for any burger aficionado. Beyond the Feast Burger, Redwood Smoke Shack excels in all things barbecue. Their brisket is melt-in-your-mouth tender, their ribs are fall-off-the-bone delicious, and their sides are the perfect complement to the main event. The mac and cheese is creamy and decadent, the coleslaw is crisp and refreshing, and the potato salad is a flavorful delight. The service at Redwood Smoke Shack is also worth mentioning. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about their craft. They're always happy to offer recommendations and explain the smoking process, adding to the overall dining experience. Read moreThere’s been a lot of buzz surrounding the opening of this new place, but we decided to wait until it had gone through its initial grand opening phase to give it a try. I passed by the day before, and in the icy, rainy weather, the line wrapped around the building. The day we decided to venture in, the line was out the door, but the weather, though cold and windy, was better. We were greeted with menus by a receptionist whose job it was to allow only patrins inside, as room inside became available. Upon entry, I saw the reason for the line. Customers stood in line - no less than 40 minutes, only to reach the order counter where their order was prepared. There were no customers ahead of them, only a vast empty space with cooks behind the line awaiting orders of their particular assignment of cutting certain meat the current customer ordered. By the time my bad knees had begun screaming, I took a seat at one of the many empty tables and proceeded to observe. My findings: The actual dining room was nearly empty of people actually eating. The line awaiting the order was long, with people growing more & more frustrated with how slow the line was moving. Customers were given food at the counter after waiting at that counter for the food to be made. I spied a manager watching from behind kitchen, but he made no gesture that indicated he was willing to jump in and assist as to move things along. Once my husband brought our food to the table, all was in takeout boxes soaked through with grease - he had told them our meal was for eating in the dining room. My appetite was greatly diminished by the experience. Trying to be fair here, but the food was not that good, likely due to the grease. The corn pudding was mostly corn bread base and very sweet. In conclusion, I now realize the long lines are a hype tactic to entice passersby. Management could easily take orders, give a number, have the customer sit down, then call the number to collect the food. The waiting is unnecessary and kills a good vibe. I doubt we’ll return, but wish them success.
UPDATE in response to owner’s response: Your comments confirmed my findings. Imagine being the 40th in line awaiting the 39 ahead of you having their order prepared in front of them, as they stand there in wait. At the rate you stated, that 40th person stands in line for 80 minutes, at the very least. Further, a review isn’t a popularity vote. Your PR person could use a refresher course; the customer IS always right. This particular customer’s experience may be different from others’, but mine is valid, based on my experIence, nonetheless. Methinks you protest too much. Offer solutions, not a...
Read moreSame nonsense issues exist in Harbour View Suffolk place as in the original Norfolk Ghent location. First, NO CASH ACCEPTED is their policy which is inexcusable for a restaurant. Second, there is no wait staff so service is out the window, so it is customer pickup service whether inside or to go. Third, this company believes in not preparing enough food, so virtually everyday food is out 86 because of poor planning (closing 8pm is early but meat will often run out several hours earlier than scheduled closing, the owner defends this "business model" but it is misguided to be frank). Then lastly, we get to the food itself which is ok at best with very expensive prices for small portions; several places in very nearby Isle of Wight county has quite a few BBQ places better in quality and portions at far more competitive prices (the other places have existed for several years but do not need to be mentioned here beyond just having a bearing of the expensive market value of Redwood). This location is nearly identical in size to the original Norfolk location but with a parking lot. The same issues exist at the.new location as in Norfolk and the honeymoon phase of the grand opening will soon give way to the reality of expensive prices for moderate quality in small portions and no service. If anyone goes to most of Texas, let alone actual Redwood, Texas renowned for famous excellent meat quality, this food in Suffolk or Norfolk locations would not even be comparable whatsoever let alone in many other cities around America. I honestly tried again only to see the same disappointment brought to Suffolk which has existed and not changed for...
