The food was really good & the serving size was much larger than I expected. Sadly, I won’t be returning. The service was terrible. We went mid-afternoon. There was one “group” table, another couple and us (2 people). The place was basically empty. We each ordered the same meal with the exception of the meat. The server got our order wrong. We had to wait an unacceptable amount of time to order-we had to tell another server we were ready to order because we couldn’t find our server. Then we had to wait an unacceptable time for her to show up. She took our order & brought more chips. The food took a while, but we assumed it was because it was fresh, so that was expected. After she brought our food, I had to go find her to tell her my order was wrong. I didn’t want to wait for another meal to be prepared, but I did ask for pico. She tossed it on the table as she walked by & we didn’t see her again. She didn’t come back to check if the food was good or refresh our drinks. We finished eating & sat for about half an hour until a manager finally walked by & noticed we weren’t eating. He asked if everything was ok & brought us “to go” boxes. We sat there for another 30 minutes waiting for the check. If I were a different kind of person I would’ve walked out. Eventually she came with the check. Then she hovered (of course) & brought our receipt quickly & hovered again waiting for us to leave so she could collect her tip. I read once that if you don’t tip a server, they assume it’s because you can’t afford it or that you are a stingy person, so you should always leave SOMETHING so the server will know it was them, not you, that determines the tip. I left her 2 pennies. She really wasn’t worth that much. I hope this is just a summer job for her. It takes a special kind of person to be a server. The food was very good, but not good enough to justify wasting 2-3 hours of my day and having to put up with poor service. There’s a lot of good food around & I can get better...
Read moreI originally went there several years ago with family and I was very underwhelmed. I ordered Queso to-go a few times after that, but had no intention of ever ordering a meal from them again until my mother brought me dinner from there when I was unable to join them. It was much better than the other times, so I decided to give them another chance. My son and I ordered 2 entrees and an extra large Queso...it was the worst food I've ever ordered from a Tex-Mex restaurant. Bland, unimaginative, just plain gross, really. No toppings, no preparation, clearly just sauce out of the can poured over enchiladas. To add insult to injury they had reduced the size of the Extra Large Queso for the 2nd time...we were charged $9.99 for a SMALL bowl of cheese dip (which was processed cheese rather than genuine Queso cheese). I asked the girl who rang me up about the cheese and she said it was no mistake, they were actually pulling such a blatant rip off on their customers (she actually agreed I was right to be offended). The Queso issue aside, I still can not figure out how this place garners 4 stars with anyone. They are not cheap by any means and the food is truly plain at best and downright gross in some cases....Even the beans and refried beans are bland with zero attempt whatsoever to give them any flavor. So, unless you like to overpay for small portions of extremely unimaginative and bland food, I recommend ANY other of the many Tex-Mex style...
Read moreHad been to other Fronteras over the years. It has always been a standard Mexican style menu that might be just slightly upscale compared to the local non-chain Mexican spot. First time visiting one in about 4 -5 years, and first time visiting this one.
Cons: • Restaurant about 20% full we were seated in the back in a dark booth next to a supplies station for the bar. • Restaurant smelled of ammonia or floor cleaner. In retrospect we should have just left immediately. • Apparently our waiter was the bar tender who was pretty busy with other tasks and wasn't even spending time at the bar. Very hard to flag down from the back of the restaurant, around the corner from everyone. There were other servers, just not working our table. • Food itself was a big step down from previous visits and expectations. I ordered a chimichanga (guilty pleasure). It was absolutely stuffed with very bland shredded chicken (boiled?). No seasonings, spices or sauces to be seen or tasted inside the wrap. Very runny consistency cheese poured over the top, like a thick soup. It was very unappetizing and I could not finish it in spite of being hungry. If I expected it might help I would have sent it back, but the rest of the family had similarly unpleasant looking plates in front of them.
