Eating 🍣 the Japanese way at Kura Sushi! Thank you so much for this delicious gifted experience. @kurasushi_usa 📍2925 Buford Dr Suite 1105, Buford, GA ALL SUSHI PLATES $3.40* EACH Kura Sushi has finally opened in Buford, Georgia bringing authentic Japanese cuisine and a unique eater-tainment dining experience to the greater Atlanta area. In love with the Demon Slayer Theme revolving Japanese sushi experience! 🍣Kura Sushi is a Japan-based revolving sushi concept with over 45 locations in the U.S. that offers a unique and engaging dining experience. 🍣If you want to order something you don’t see on the conveyor belt, you can order it from the touchpad and it is delivered straight to your table. 🍣 After every 15 plates, a prize is dispensed to your table. It was such a high tech experience with KuraBot delivering our drinks and amazing delicious food. #kurasushi #mysecretatlanta #discoveratl #revolvingsushi #demonslayeranime

Update April 2025: We keep going because it’s convenient and it’s gotten so much better lately. The people working there are nice and helpful. The food offerings are better. And the portion sizes seem comparable to the Doraville location now. Glad they’re improving as we love Kura! —————/////// Update December 2023: Sadly it seems to have gotten worse here. We have been a few times since my original review. Most recently, we came again on a Friday around 2:30pm. There were maybe 4 tables dining and about 6-7 dirty tables that hadn’t been bussed. No one waiting to be sat. It took about 5-7 minutes for us to be greeted and then for a table to be cleaned off. And it was cleaned horribly. We found pieces of food and sticky areas once we sat down. Then about 90% of the domes were empty the entire time we were there. Not a single thing revolving. We had to order from the menu to get anything which sort of defeats the purpose, especially for new customers. I am sharing this because I want this place to be successful. I’ve been to a successful Kura and this is not how it’s done. The staff doesn’t care. They’re slow and not friendly. And the sushi chefs aren’t keeping up. The food itself has improved slightly. But the service needs an overhaul. —————————- We have been going to the Doraville location for years. It’s one of our favorite restaurants in all of atlanta. So we were super excited when we learned they were opening one only 10 mins from us (vs almost an hour to Doraville). We came today (a Wednesday at around 1pm) after our daughters 5th grade graduation and it’s a lot smaller than Doraville. But that’s not a big deal. What surprised me right off that bat was the size of the portions. They are a lot smaller than the Doraville one. The inari is not full of rice, the “pocket” is a lot looser due to lack of rice. Also my favorite, the seared scallops are much smaller with less rice. Also, disappointingly over 50% of the revolving domes were empty. Some were never filled the entire time we sat there which was over an hour. My husband loves sockeye salmon and it never got filled, and it was not on the menu to order. The same went for some other offerings, never got filled and weren’t on the menu. There were some other hiccups (daughters fried were very undercooked so we had to call the server, who took forever to come over). They replaced the fries and they were cooked more but still less than Doraville. But I will give them a break in this stuff since they’ve only been open a couple weeks. Overall my biggest gripe is the size of the sushi itself and how much smaller it is than the Doraville location. And lack of replenishing the domes. Hopefully this gets remedied otherwise we may still make the trek to that location over this one. I figure we will give this one another try though in a few months to see if things have improved.

We love Kura! We’ve been waiting for EVER for the Buford location to open and we are so glad it’s here! Stopped in and had a great time and the wait her was much better than the Doraville location. Pro tip: get the Kura app, and you can check in to the restaurant in advance and not have to wait to get a table! If you’ve never been, you sit at a table next to a conveyor belt and sushi zips by you in little covered dishes. There are signs on the conveyor belt to tell you what each plate contains. You pull off the plates that you want and you are charged per plate as you drop it into a little slot at your table once you’ve eaten the food on it. You order your drinks from a server and theres a darling little robot that brings them to your table. Servers will also bring other items to your table, like more soy sauce or wasabi. If you don’t have the time (or the patience) to wait for your favorite kind of sushi to come by on the conveyor belt, you can also order directly at your table, and the sushi comes straight to you on a special conveyor belt above the regular line. I’m a big fan of all the fun rolls that come with crunchy tempura and delicious sauces. They also have nigiri - just rice and fish and lots of variety. There os also ramen for around $8 and several desserts. My daughter’s favorite thing is the fried bean paste fish that comes with ice cream. You can spend a little bit of money or a lot depending on what your preferences are. Each plate costs a little over three dollars a piece. To game-ify your visit, there’s also a fun little video that plays on the screen at your table. As you eat your sushi and return the plates, you follow a little anime sushi ninja as he fights monsters around the world. You eat more sushi and he defeats more monsters. Every time you return 15 plates, you also get a little prize ball from a machine above your table that contains an assortment of little toys, keychains, etc. It makes for a very fun experience! If you like sushi, this is a really fun way to eat it, and if you haven’t tried sushi before, this is a fun way to experience a variety of different things, and determine what you are into!

My first impression upon entering the restaurant was already a negative one. The restaurant smelled of “old” food that is hard to describe in detail. However, we decided to stay and give the restaurant a chance to experience the service and the food.

The service was very decent, our waitress was very friendly and seemed to genuinely care to ensure all of our questions were answered and our needs met.

At this point, most of the party is having trouble dealing with the smell. One of us would eventually get sick and need to leave for fresh air.

Before this, we eagerly await the conveyor belt of sushi to bring us some options. We almost immediately begin to notice that the options are limited, and the stock nearly gone.

We wait another 20 minutes and by then we have received the drinks in a timely manner.

Still very little sushi options, each plate is $3.45 a piece which includes ridiculous options such as, small plates of watermelon, small bowl of edamame, and several sushi options with only TWO pieces of sushi.

This makes them slightly more expensive than the nearby competitors, with fewer options, poor stock of what they do offer, and to top it all off the sushi wasn’t even that good.

The sushi I tried was shrimp tempura and it tasted like it was hours old. It had a warm-ish exterior with a cold interior that left a very bad taste in my mouth.

The rest of the party opts to forgo the conveyor options as after 30 minutes of waiting there was next to no available options. They instead opt to order through the computer instead, we found the options very limited and expensive for the quantity given.

More and more time passes by and unfortunately one of our party members began to get sick due to the smell and lack of cleanliness of the table.

They depart outside for fresh air, and we promptly request to be checked out due to this event.

I alone remained in the store waiting over 15 minutes with no response from staff after requesting the check. I was able to check out using the tablet on the table instead.

We leave and instead ate at Whataburger. Standard fast food experience but even it was better than our experience at Kura Revolving Sushi.

Our friends and I have agreed we will not return, nor do we recommend even trying this establishment. Do yourself a favor and seek other options for sushi when near the Mall area.

Overall, I would have to give the restaurant a 3/10. It’s only redeeming quality being the friendly wait staff.

Note, after experiencing some minor frustration to the lack of food options, I glanced into kitchen many times and noticed there was little effort being made to rejuvenate the nearly empty conveyors. I’m not sure if this is a staffing issue or not, but there were plenty of wait staff and most seats were occupied as this was a busy time for...
