The Courtyard by Marriott - Where Hope Goes to Die
I checked in for what I thought would be a quiet weekend getaway. What I got instead was a front-row seat to Hotel Purgatory.
Let’s start with the smell. The lobby had the faint aroma of regret and overcooked Salisbury steak. I asked if something had died in the walls. The front desk clerk just smiled like he’d heard it before. That was not comforting.
My room was a tribute to beige mediocrity. The carpet was so sticky I lost a sock to it. The AC unit sounded like it was crying. Not “malfunctioning” — crying. Soft mechanical sobs every 15 minutes. I started crying with it by hour two.
The bed felt like a sandwich of plywood and broken dreams. Pillows? Imagine resting your head on a semi-deflated volleyball. I woke up with a stiff neck and the haunting realization that I may have slept on a mattress from the Reagan era.
There was a mysterious stain on the ceiling. Was it water? Blood? Ketchup? I called the front desk and they said, “Yeah, we’re aware.” Aware of WHAT, exactly??
Room service doesn’t exist. “We’re Courtyard, not full-service,” they chirped. So I ordered DoorDash and was nearly mauled by a rogue goose in the parking lot. Apparently, they live there now. They run the place.
The elevator made a sound like it was being operated by squirrels. One morning, it just… didn’t arrive. I took the stairs and immediately regretted that when I passed a stairwell painting that looked like something straight out of a haunted museum.
The final insult? I checked out a day early and they charged me more for the privilege.
To sum up: This place is less “Marriott” and more “emotional trial.” I came looking for rest. I left with a mild rash, psychological scars, and an unsettling sense that I may never be truly clean again.

Read moreI was unable to sleep for two nights. The facility was clean, the room was nice, and the conference room was perfect for our presentation. The customer service and attention to all guests is horrible. There was a wedding party staying at the hotel. On Friday evening, the party was outside at the fire pit until 1:00 AM. Due to the nature of their event, I did not complain and slept for a couple of hours. On Saturday night the party continued. I called the front desk at 10:50 PM and asked how long the party was going to continue. The front desk clerk informed me he would shut it down in a little bit. As the party continued, I called the front desk again at 12:30 AM. The front desk clerk now informed me that he would only tell them to keep their voices down. I informed the clerk that was unacceptable as the noise of the crowd continued to echo in my room. I was exhausted due to the lack of sleep from Friday night and had to be at work early in the morning. I informed the clerk I wanted to be compensated for the major inconvenience. The clerk informed me he would bring the group in. I again had to call the clerk at 1:15 AM to have the issue addressed as they continued to party outside. I have shared the recordings of how loud the conversations were in my room at 1:00 AM with my counterparts. They were applauded the clerk did nothing to address the situation. To clarify: When a group is outside at the fire pit, their conversations echo into the rooms that are on that side of the hotel. I am positive that the group would have been upset if people were loud early in the morning and they were trying to sleep off their long night.
You can only image my disappointment when I found the bill under my door and the full cost of the stay billed to my company credit card. Future travels to Buford GA will be booked in other hotels...
Read moreWe were coming in from out of town to spend the day shopping and enjoying the area. Our kids were excited about the pool and hot tub; but unfortunately upon arriving the hot tub was closed. It would have been nice if this was posted online to warn us in advance. Generally, the hotel is very clean and comfortable. Our problems happened after we checked out.
We paid for breakfast the next morning in the lobby cafe (and it was okay) before checking out. We left the room in very good condition. When we made it home we noticed a hold on our account and several charges. We had been charged for a mysterious charge, and a $20 hold and $10 hold was on our card. About $75 was tied up =( We phoned the next business day and were told they only charged us once for breakfast, and the hold would come off soon. It took 2 business days to release the holds and the other charges never went away. We called again and were told the same answer, and to call again tomorrow when the manager was in. We did. Same answer; but this time they said they would look into it and call us back. 48 hours later nothing. I’ve had to file a dispute with VISA to fight the hotel to get fraudulent charges removed from our card. The staff showed no concern that they were charging our card in error.
I’m posting this to warn others to watch your account after staying here. And you might want to consider another hotel unless you enjoy filling out fraud complaint forms. Poor experience and...
