I don't know how this place got 4.8 stars overall at the time of writing this or so many 5 star reviews, because it is definitely not deserving of that. I am starting to think there are some fake reviews or paid reviews on this platform or this place is good at fooling americans/westerners not sure. It shows you can't trust a lot of Google ratings these days because you see 4.8 stars and you think the place might be good and worth trying and you get there and you think how did this place come anywhere close to near 5 stars or 5 stars.
First, you have to find the place, it's in one of the tiny Suites at the address listed on Google. It was on the right side for us but may be different for you depending on the direction you come from. Might have to search for it a bit. Once you arrive, theres just a few parking spots in front of the restaurant. There's barely anyone here and this restaurant is just smack dab in front of the parking. Inside it's pretty much a ghost town, it was just us until later one more group walked in. We had one female waiter, and a few other workers or chefs chatting at another table nearby. There's a bunch of seats and like a barstool counter thingy near in the back.
So you basically do the scan the menu thing to order, they have like an ipad thing where you can see the different options. First issue here is most of the food items did not have any sort of pictures. We got the one thing that had a picture: Pan Fried Seafood Udon which sounds good in paper, the picture was a little big suspect as it did not look what we would expect of Pan Fried Udon noodles it had this big sauce of cream, and when it arrived the noodles were all soft, and the flavor was completely consumed by the sauce, very sweet and creamy. We got some Assorted Sashimi and I can tell you from the first bite I knew this was not fresh, it did not taste how fish or sashmi should taste from the countless others sushi restaurants I been to in my life, especially the Japan ones where they actually serve fresh Sushi and fish as it should. It could not even compare to the American Sushi restaurants. It was bland, more frozen flavor like the water and ice just melted off of it than anything, it's hard to describe youll have to taste it to know what I mean which I don't recommend. Several of the people who went with me here got stomach issues and diarrhea from this so that's also great. In most Sushi restaurants, Miso soup should be included, our orders stated Miso Soup was included, out came one singular Miso Soup. When a male waiter was serving us some dishes, we asked about the Miso Soups and he might have misunderstood or had language barrier but we were informed only one was included and the rest had to be paid for, luckily the female waiter quickly came over and corrected him and said Miso Soups were free for everyone.
Now we had to order some Sushi, can't come to a Sushi restaurant and not order sushi. We ordered two most expensive ones, Bluefin Roll for Bluefin Tuna for $28 and Fish on Fire the name of the restaurant for $22. Unfortunately, a big disappointment again, everyone took only one roll or two and didn't want anymore. One of the two was explicitly worse I think it was the Fish on Fire one, the sauce one again was overpowering, both rolls had issues, still felt a bit of that hard to describe frozen flavor in there, the fish didnt taste great, the roll fell apart easily and the other ingredients inside did not compliment but had really split flavors that are again hard to describe unless you actually taste them. I expected better for $50 for a small plate of Sushi. One of my friends ordered a Tonkotsu Ramen which I can't comment on sadly because I didn't taste it myself but my friend was very "meh" about that one as well.
Total overall it was like $100 but didnt feel worth. $100 can get you so much more. Sadly, will not be coming back anytime soon, and I warn others to try to be cautious/wary about the other positive reviews. The negative criticism ones give more honest information than good ones...
Read moreIf you are craving fresh and delicious Japanese cuisine with an innovative twist, get yourself over to Fish on Fire as soon as possible! We visited the restaurant after finding out it’s the latest venture from the same owner as Totto Ramen and Sushi in Fairfield. Totto is our favorite Japanese restaurant, so if you’re also a fan of Totto, you will LOVE Fish on Fire. The menu has a wide variety of classic sushi favorites, sashimi, creative small plates, and appetizers. They also have a variety of ramen dishes than can be customized with various toppings, if you’re in the mood for something warm and soothing. The presentation is always artistic and creative. The food is almost too beautiful to eat, but then you eat it and it tastes even better than it looks - if that’s even possible. We enjoyed the Toro, and Seared Sake Belly nigiri, the Fish on Fire Roll was incredible too with just the right amount of heat. The Ika Geso was paired with a spicy aioli that complimented the fried texture. All of the fish was super-fresh and the sashimi practically melts in your mouth! They also have these cool screens at every table, so you can order as you go which is the best way to eat sushi, in my opinion - take your time and then decide what to order next. Of course, the servers are also very friendly, attentive, and ready to take your order and answer your questions, if that’s more your style. There were so many other items on the menu we can’t wait to try on future visits. Fish in Fire has definitely elevated the food scene in...
Read moreBrand new sushi spot in my little city and we were not let down! Between my daughter hubby and I, we all left full and satisfied! My daughter had the kids ramen which was a generous serving that she devoured. Thankfully before she did I got a taste and it was full of flavor both the broth and the noodles. Hubby got the soft shell crab app which was served atop 3 tempura onion rings (we cleaned the plate). I tried the poke trio which was delicious and fresh and we had the Noelle roll and the Hot Night. Both rolls were fresh and flavorful with contrasting taste. The Noelle was a total flavor bomb that satisfied my spicy/sweet taste buds. Service was friendly & helpful and the establishment was clean with modern to decor which was to be expected since it’s a brand new spot! There were quite a few people there too on a Monday evening which was so cool to see! I hope they do well because we’ll definitely be back to...
