El Charro Restaurant — Restaurant in Sulphur Springs

I'm sorry to say this but I have eaten at hundreds and hundreds of Mexican restaurants throughout my life and in many states across the country and this is probably the worst Mexican food I have ever had. Bland, covered in a unknown sauce that tasted like flour water oil and taco seasoning made like a gravy. The salsa is barely a notch above just tomato sauce from a can in the flavor department. I ordered a platter called "the special" which had an enchilada, a tamale, a soft taco and a crispy taco everything except the crispy taco was drenched in the strange taco seasoning gravy. the only halfway decent thing we ordered was the queso and that's because it obviously came from a can. We ordered corn tortillas and they did not have any which makes me wonder what they're making the enchiladas with because it wasn't flour tortillas. Are waitresses very nice and polite she seemed to know the menu and the girl that came around filling the salsa and water was full of smiles and very nice no problem with the staff. The last kick in the pants at the end of the meal was cash only? This place is extremely outdated the food is extremely underwhelming I just simply can't say anything good about it except for the waitress was polite. Two thumbs pointed...

You'll either love it, or dislike it. Locals have been enjoying El Charro food for a long time. We had the special, taco, Tamale, cheese enchiladas, rice & beans.... Very good food, bland as is traditional Mexican food, spice it to taste with sauces. The menu doesn't offer a large variety of foods, no chili rellanos, etc that you see on other menus, but what we had was authentic and delicious. Chips were fresh & salsa was on point. No frills here, just good food, served fast and fresh, by hard working lady's who run their butt off to keep your table happy. Prices were very reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. At the start everything was okay we got our drinks quickly and correctly but our chips were stale and the salsa was literally tomato sauce and peppers of some kind it was understaffed and slow We ordered our food and the wait was decent refills were provided and the chips tho stale helped with the wait finally orders came and they got mine and one of my party members orders wrong The food. It tasted like a freezer meal that stayed in the freezer for 5 years my tortilla was rubbery the chicken had no flavor and the beans obviously came from a can the queso was literally just Velveeta cheese and nothing else I would not eat here again and I don't recommend...
