We chose this restaurant as the first stop for our 7th anniversary celebration because it is where we had our very first date. It was meant to be a special and sentimental experience for us. Unfortunately, what we encountered was one disappointment after another, beginning from the very first moment we walked in.
From the start, there was no greeting or acknowledgment at all. The host did not say hello, did not welcome us to the restaurant, and did not engage with us in any way that would make a guest feel valued. We asked to be notified when a table on the main floor opened, away from the bar area. We explained that we were happy to wait, that we would walk around the casino, and that she could take our phone number so she could call us when the table was ready. A simple and reasonable request. Instead of offering that solution herself, the host was hesitant and resistant, and we had to walk her through the process of what she should have done without question. It felt like she was inconvenienced by us simply asking her to do her job.
We also made it clear that this visit was special for us because it was our 7th anniversary and this restaurant carried a personal memory. That information was completely ignored. There was no congratulations, no acknowledgment of the occasion, and no effort to recognize that this was more than an ordinary visit. That lack of basic hospitality set the tone for everything that followed.
To make matters worse, we never received a call when the table became available, even though we left our number and made it very clear that was the arrangement. After waiting about twenty to thirty minutes, we returned to check on our own. When we approached the host again, she once more gave us no greeting, no hello, no acknowledgment of our return, and no apology for failing to call us. She simply walked up to us and, without even a smile, said "this way" before leading us to the table. The absence of a proper welcome during both our initial interaction and our return made us feel dismissed and unimportant.
What made this worse was that there were no other guests waiting during the entire time, so this was not a matter of being busy or overwhelmed. This was purely a matter of poor service and a lack of care for guests. Both my fiancé and I work in the hospitality industry. He is a regional manager for a restaurant group and I am a marketing manager for a Strip casino with a focus on restaurants, so we know exactly what the standard of service should be. What we experienced was the complete opposite.
We asked to speak with a manager to provide feedback, but the assistant general manager only made the situation worse. Rather than focusing on the issue and our experience, she oddly asked what we do for a living and what our job titles are, as if our feedback only mattered if we were in certain positions. That is completely inappropriate. Every guest, whether they are a busser, a server, a housekeeper, or a chief executive, deserves to be treated with the same level of respect and care. Instead, she seemed skeptical of our roles in the industry, which made the interaction even more insulting.
To add to this, her explanations were inconsistent and dismissive. She told us the restaurant does not take reservations except on weekends, but this incident occurred on a Sunday afternoon. Last time I checked, Sunday is part of the weekend. That contradiction only further showed the lack of professionalism and attention to detail.
Overall, this experience was deeply disappointing. From start to finish, there was no warmth, no acknowledgment, no sense of genuine hospitality. What was supposed to be a meaningful anniversary stop at a place that held sentimental value for us turned into a reminder of how poor service can ruin even the most...
Read moreDisappointing. I sat for 20 minutes trying to flag down a server, but apparently, there's only 1 for the whole place. A guy sat down next to me, maybe 10 minutes after me, and even he was getting annoyed. He actually got the attention of the chef lady. I couldn't see her name, but she was short haired and in black chef coat. She was expediting at the front of the line. I mean, we didn't even get water or anything. The chef lady came over, and I realized the guy sitting next to me was closer to her from her position, but I was clearly sitting there much longer, and yet she still came to him first. On a side note, I also noticed a couple sit down after the guy next to me. In other words, it was long after I sat down, and I noticed they were already done and leaving as I was finally getting my food. So the service gets 1 star. It's just really disorganized and frustrating. The guy next to me actually gestured for the chef to attend to me. She asked if she could get me a drink and I asked if I could order because I'm ready. She hesitated like she was breaking some rule. I'm sorry, but after 30 minutes of waiting to get noticed (and she saw me because I tried flagging her down more than once), but at that point, there's no rule. Just help. Clearly, the server is overwhelmed or whatever, and the customer needs service. But still, I was patient. I ordered a Thai tea, shishito Pepper appetizer, and tonkatsu.
I should have made sure but I usually ask for the Thai tea to come out at the end as like a refreshing dessert to wash down everything but they brought that out first and with the glass half full of ice. Grrr...I thought that was normally how Thai tea is served? It really didn't have that rich creamy flavor Thai tea usually has.
The shishito peppers came out, and it was a nice big dish, so I was happy with the portion, but they were just ok. Could have used a little more seasoning.
I was barely 4 peppers into the appetizer when they brought the tonkatsu. I'm not quite sure what the expediter lady is doing if she's not really expediting. But I took one look at the broth, and I already knew it would have no flavor because I could see all the fat floating at the top of the broth. That is why it has zero flavor. Need to render the fat from the broth. After a few bites, I sent it back. I hate sending stuff back, but this was unacceptable. I opted for the first chicken dish I could find. While I was waiting for that, I was able to finish the peppers. Timing is important.
Oh,I almost forgot the Mochiko chicken. It's basically like general tso chicken or like orange chicken without the orange flavor. It was ok. I wish I was offered spicy sauce or something to kick it up a notch but it was ok.
The chef lady seemed to be scolding the line cook. I couldn't make out everything they were saying, but if the chef is expediting, it's her job to make sure the dishes are on par. It's hard to be upset with such a pretty lady but this place seems to have changed drastically. The last time I was here was over 8 years ago but at that time, I was coming every other week and it was excellent. With great regret, I have to not recommend this. Everything about it just seems off. I MIGHT give it another chance but I will make sure to go when...
